A couple thoughts on roster moves, trades and Hunter B. I think if Martin can come back 100% then he stays. I would be trading Schmidt and look to pick up a veteran d-man who’s not flashy but is a steady stay at home guy. Think Wale from the Soo who we traded for a few years ago. I didn’t enjoy watching Schmidt last year and am not overly impressed by his play this year. Having Martin up front moves some guys down a line and stretches out our line-up better than it presently is. What is everyone’s thoughts on Hunter B possibly being here next year? I think he could use another year to work on his skating and defensive side of things. There’s no denying he’s an amazing offensive talent. If he were to return could we trade a bit more aggressively this year and then flip both him and Rehkopf next year to recoup assets and then some? Just a thought I had.

Signs are pointing to him coming back based on some saying he hasn’t really improved in the areas he was asked too. I think we will see a similar situation to Schmidt where he gets a brief AHL stint. I think he would still get us at least 2 2nds. His agent is apparently looking for the max rookie contract.

We’ll have to wait and see on the market and if there a cheap bottom 6 option this year, preferably a physical presence. ( I would have suggested Klein if he didn’t come with all the baggage)

Maybe MM goes after a underperforming 05/06 or someone looking for a change of scenery

I hadn’t considered Hunter B possibly returning for an OA season. I figured he’d be a guarantee to play AHL next year.

I’m not so sure that I see him as an Andre Benoit type - a highly offensive d-man whose pro game isn’t ready as a 20 year old.

I’m all for him returning, but I’m not holding my breath.

If we are able to trade Hunter and Rehkoph next year, will it be enough to make up for a limited 2008 draft?

You can add to 2009-10 that Spott screwed up the deal and basically gave away our best goalie by a country mile, Mavric Parks to clear the way for 2 seasons of substandard goaltending with Brandon Maxwell. Who knows how far we get with Parks? All we needed was one more win vs Windsor.
We can also add to the 11-12 team, that along with the high end OA group (Catenacci, Randel, Sol), we had a 4th in Julian Melchiori, also a top end OA, who we had to give up for next to nothing at the deadline to get down to three OA’s.

Pay attention MM. Whoever the odd man out is, we can’t get nothing for him.

Let's not use the Rangers talk about hoping to host the Memorial Cup next cycle back to the O to set this teams future. Our returning crop of potential OAs next yr of Parsons, Pug and maybe Hunter, along with the core of this team, next yrs team could be near the top of the league again. Does MM take that into consideration for any trades this yr? Does he try to maximize Jussis stay here?
Glad I'm just an armchair GM. Before this season started I was all in for a rebuild...now I'm firmly on the fence.
Or am I as a fan, have blue tinted glasses?

A+ : 2003 - Sop, Martin, Schmidt, Motew (going to lose one soon to a trade)

A+ : 2004 - Misal, Pugs, Mesar, Swick, Brzustewicz, Parsons, Malbouef (hard to choose only three for next year)

A+ / C : 2005 - Rehkopf, Andonovski / Mercer, Morey, Scott (if we trade Razor we’re going to need help in this age group)

C: 2006 - Ellinas, Botts, Campbell (showing well under this coaching staff)

A+ : 2007 - Reid, Lam, Romano, Stark, (McNeil, Edward’s, Arquette) ( good to go)

2008???

Regarding the evaluation of 2006's at this point, it reminds me of how I would have likely projected Sop - perhaps a "C" - as recent as last year's training camp. I don't mind admitting that I was definitely wrong though. This guy comes to play.

I do see good things from Ellinas and Campbell already. Bottineau may or may not turn out to be the goal scorer that some OA's are, and perhaps he's not a particularly flashy skater, but you would be hard pressed to find many players that work as hard as he does every shift. He's actually shown a lot in the past 10 games or so.

Listening to Farwell and Fixter broadcasting on a road game. They mentioned how a couple of different NHL scouts were inquiring about Ellinas. Big kid that doesn't mind the rough going and can skate.

Do they use European ice or change it to North American like when the leafs went over. Mesar might dominate.
Who’s excited for the 8am games

So the Rangers have one guy going to Team Canada while the Knights has 3 going. Imagine if the Knights could have 3 more players going that they may be only 4 points behind the Rangers. 😋
Bonk and Barkey will have some serious competition to make the team. Cowan should be a shoe in.

Barkey could make it as a 4th liner. He's tough to play against and can chip in with some offense. I've never seen the deal with Bonk except his name.

Rehkopf I don't know what to think. My guess is if he doesn't make the top 6, he doesn't have the 200 foot game for the 3rd or 4th line.

Cowan is a lock.
