I agree MM started from a weak position. When Hamara, Brzustewicz and Mesar all landed in Kitchener coupled with all the returnees from last season's decent playoff performance it gave MM a false sense. Did he read it wrong? It certainly looks like it now. But many many others did also. I myself have gone back and forth.
Where he landed in the quick sand was the last 2 trades. Up until then trading for Constantini and Moore would have had limited consequences. The problem was he slightly overpaid for Arcuri and Zhilkin. The biggest problem was he misread where the other teams would land after they would supplement already formidable rosters.
And here we are today.
One last thing. Sometimes you're better off trying to trade at the last minute. At least you see what the market is and how your team honestly stands in comparison. Right now it looks like this futile run at a championship (hope I'm wrong but I don't see it) will cost us an attempt building around 2 of the best prospects we've had in years when we have to offload Rehkopf and Brzustewicz to reload.
