Yes they will be worse. They were the 8th seed team and will be losing Pinelli, Arcuri, Constantini, Moore, Zhilkin, Schmidt, Valade, Vandenberg. Then factor in the Rehkopf and Brzustewicz will both be traded sometime this year. Also watch for Martin and Motew to be traded come the deadline as they would be upgraded on many teams over age spots.

The only way that they are better is if a new coach comes in and preaches a team first philosophy and all of the players buy in. That and if Parsons steals some games as well.
Yes, Parsons. Ugh! I would have preferred to trade him instead of Vandenberg. But I suppose it's the Ranger way to hold on to players with bum shoulders and other injuries, for the sake of not appearing heartless. I know that he had surgery and all but then again, so did Connor Hall.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the Rangers showing heart or the shoulder. The trade value probably wasn’t there for Parsons to be the one traded. We got a big 2nd for Vandenberg. If Parsons starts hot I won’t be surprised he is traded. The goal this year is to get as many picks / young players as possible.

On a resent 32 thoughts podcast, they talked of the “European assignment clause”.

This is a clause many European players have in their entry level contracts whereby they can jump ship from the AHL and go back to play in Europe if they haven’t cracked their NHL team yet.

As we know, once a player starts his season with a CHL club, they have to remain there except for emergency situations we’ve seen here and there over the years. (Most recent Owen Beck).

My question is, does Filip Mesar have a European Assignment Clause in his contract? If he does, and the Habs have him start his season at the AHL level, could he trigger the clause to avoid coming back to the Rangers if the Habs wanted to assign him back here?

When he was drafted by the Habs, he was excited to play NA hockey. But he also expressed interest in the Swedish Hockey League as a possible option.

If he isn’t getting the minutes at the AHL level, he may prefer the SHL playing for $$ rather than another year here in Kitchener.

With Mesar, Montreal very clearly wants him in North America adjusting to the ice and game over here. So the absolute coaching/development debacle in Kitchener last year was devastating on many levels.

He clearly is not ready for a big AHL role, so obviously the preference would be to have him play another year of junior, but they may see Europe as a more viable option than risking this S-show again. So they may wait to see who the hire is here first. This may be a decision left to the bitter end.

I agree 100%.

The season's been over for almost 2 months and things are still quiet on the hire. They must be doing another "in depth search and going through the stack of resumes". They wouldn't dare try selling another in house hire, would they?

Or, could they force a trade to a better situation in this league? Wouldn’t be the first time a parent NHL club forced an OHL team to deal a player before they’d send him back to this league.

I could see him being assigned to the AHL to start, dressing here and there but staying on the roster until a trade to a contender is facilitated if they really want him in NA but aren't happy with Kitchener.

If Rangers are consistent with their coach announcements, we should hear something in the next couple of weeks. A LOT is riding on who is selected as the Rangers next head coach. Both players and fans need to be in awe of who is hired instead of rolling their collective eyes. If it ends up being same old....same old, all hope of eventually rising to the top will be dashed.

Hi everyone! New to HFBoards so apologies for asking something that’s already been asked but are there any ideas of who the next Rangers coach will be?

A short list of some kind everyone thinks it might be?

Welcome to the board.

A few names have been tossed around over the last number of weeks, but I think it really is anybody's guess. CD got hired last year towards the end of June. I know that's likely a poor gauge, but maybe we'll find out soon.

Back in early May, Josh Brown of The Record posed his thoughts on potential coaches:

Dennis Wideman (in-house, assistant with Rangers), Andreas Karlsson (former asst coach with Rangers, now with Bulldogs), Norm Milley (asst. coach with Ottawa 67s), Steve O'Rourke (associate coach Oshawa Generals), Dylan Hunter (yes, that Hunter...son of...London Knights), Ted Dent (coach of Flint Firebirds and a long shot for a change), and Chris Lazary (former Siskins coach, currently Saginaw coach, pipe dream...this will be a very good club and will be hosting the Mem Cup).

Then, at the end of May, American Hockey League Rumors declared an NCCA hockey rumour on Twitter that Mike Leone, head coach of the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL) would be coming to the Kitchener Rangers. Interestingly enough, it was pointed out here on the boards that former Ranger, Jeremy Morin, is the Player Development Coach on that team.

Other than that.........nada.

Also interesting is that Brian Sommariva, one of our USA scouts, is the Green Bay Gamblers’ Director of Scouting. I’d have thought we’d have closed the deal on Leone by now if the rumor was legit but perhaps the negotiation, legalities & logistics take time…?

Our last couple external coach hires, Chris Dennis & Mike Van Ryn, were announced June 28th & June 19th respectively if that’s any encouraging indicator of our HC hiring timeframe ;)

Jake Grimes' resume comes out of the pile of hopefuls on MM's desk as he goes from UW to Saginaw as Associate, pending Green Card approval.

Just noticed that Riley Patterson, an '06 who was the very next pick after Kitchener's Justin Bottineau, was traded from Flint to Barrie,. He then decommitted from Michigan State to play for the Colts starting next year. Some pretty good looking stats while playing for North York last year, and was named the Ontario Junior Hockey League Top Rookie.

Not necessarily saying we should have picked him before Bottineau. After all, Bottineau is likely a totally different player, and the Rangers probably picked him for a reason. Besides, Patterson didn't play for Flint last season. So in light of the no-show Hage / Longacre situation, who knows whether or not he would have reported to Kitchener had the Rangers picked him instead of Bottineau. Having said that, I'll be interested in seeing how this kid performs in his first season in the OHL.

New Friday night start time 7pm.

I like it. Makes it standard with Tuesday nights, Good for families too.
I know people with families, who they’d take to games, who work til 5 everyday, who had a hard time getting to Tuesday games by start time. So they didn’t go.

Starting at 7pm on Fridays could rule them out altogether.

For me personally? I work out of town and loved the 7:30 starts. Allowed me to get to the game on time.

Are far as being good for families, Friday night isn’t a school night. More people may be affected negatively by the earlier start than would benefit getting out of the Aud a half hour earlier.
