The sting was picked by many to go to the Memorial Cup, post trade deadline. London was the underdog in that series.
Poor Sarnia, looking great on paper and playing well but then their playoff curse resumes ;) IMO, London only remotely looked like an underdog in the series until Bowen's jitters had eased, then Sarnia reverted to being a one-line wonder without any answers. Had Brochu remained healthy for more than 2 starts, this series probably wasn't a contest (like round 2).

Yup, as they say, the only thing that counts is what happens post-season. Ask the Spit

Yes indeed, ask the Spits & Ottawa how their Prom went ;)

London
London will probably win it all next year, unless they get swept by an 8th seed. Didn't think the west was all that strong this year so the result isn't surprising. Bring that cup home Petes!

Not sure London will win the west. Saginaw will buy everything not nailed down. Guelph and Owen Sound look strong and London needs to figure out their crease before they get going in the fall.

If Saginaw is going to be buying everything that isn’t nailed down, they better be prepared to sell off valuable youth. (‘23 1st rounder and anyone not named Misa or Parekh).

For a Memorial Cup host, their draft pick cupboard is average at best. (4 x 2nds. 3 x 3rds).

But yes, the west will be very strong with those four teams in the mix.

Hopefully Saggy can draw a strong return for Aiden Young and presumably there's also some 'stealth credit' of note for that 2023 NB 2nd (... aka Tanner Lam) that they flipped to us for chump change.

IMO, that stealth credit has to be a precursor to a Brzustewicz to Saginaw for picks and a good young player? Bode Stewart? Would help add to our thin ‘06 group.

Or if not Stewart, is there a player from the ‘22 draft that they took a flyer on that would report here? Brzustewicz / Barrie situation all over again?

Kristian Epperson maybe the sole '22 flyer pick candidate? Played well on US NTDP & U17 teams last year BUT that puts him another year away & he's also a University of Michigan commit.

Yes, I saw him and thought he might be a possibility.

You never know. I was just spitballing. But Saginaw will have to pull out all the stops with that average draft cupboard.

It would be cool if we traded for his rights and he showed up. But, we don’t need another Gleb. I know we didn’t give up much but there was some hope. I guess what we gave up to get his rights reflected the likelyhood of him reporting.

Rehkopf as he does something exceptional (shoot the puck). However, Hunter has the better career as he does everything well. A bit undersized as a D man. I have Mark Giordano as a comparison. Carson needs to figure out his GAF element or he's on a train to Mascherin Town.
Rehkopf. Way more NHL upside. Hunter has had a very easy road

I still think especially in an OHL host yr, when we get to the conference finals we do a cross over series depending on points. Therefore the finals could be by theory the top two teams in the OHL with both of these teams representing the O. Yes, for this to really work we would need a balance schedule.

Rehkopf has more question marks but a higher ceiling, Hunter has a slightly lower ceiling but higher floor. Rehkopf has consistency, intensity and hockey IQ question marks. Better physical tools. Brz was the lone consistent D man on a horribly defensively coached team. Brz has the smarts, poise, decision making that make him a safer bet to make it in his role imo. His road hasn't been any easier than Rehk's.

Or Schwindt I suppose, though we still have faint long odds hope that the bonus 12th in the next draft might somehow yield a compelling player.

There should be a mechanism where the host team must, at least, achieve a berth in their conference final to contest in the Cup tournament. Two of the last 4 Cups have been won by well-rested host teams, leaving one to wonder if tanking early to rest and prep may well be a sound strategy for a host.

Appreciate the comment. Consistency is the most underrated tool in the whole equation. I like them both. Kitch is going to have a hell of a squad in the next few years

All Ist round players drafted get gold education packages, it's a league rule.
Second rounders get nearly the same. The OHL is doing it right

I always did think Brady was reporting but really surprised it's only a standard package if the report is correct.
4 years scholarship, books and lodging. It's a 75k packages the second he steps on the ice in an exhibition game. Good on him

Good!! I liked what I saw of him at the development camp. Looked good enough to play games in this league as a 16 year old.

I wonder if they’ll sign any of the FA’s from that camp? A few impressed.
Great player. He will be able to come into the league as a 16 year old and make an impact

He will get very limited games as a 16 year old. Rangers already have the max 4 16 year olds already picked out. He will play in Fort Erie this season.

Great to see MacNiel signed. Currently 15 years old and 6'2" 170lbs. Totally agree with Even, the kid looked great teamed up with 1st round pick, Cameron Reid. Both of these young D were captains of their previous teams. They shined at development camp for sure.

As per Josh Brown's article: OHL teams can only carry four 16-year-olds per season, so MacNiel is slated to start the year with the Fort Erie Meteors in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. But McKenzie said he’ll play some exhibition games and be a call-up — on a Jr. B card — if the club runs into injuries or has players away at international tournaments, such as the world junior hockey championships.

Still hoping they'd sign Hlacar. He looked like he'd add a much needed dimension. And he showed enough ability to play at least a depth role at this level.

Tim maybe Hlacar gets a second look at the main camp. When you watch the NHL playoffs grit is a component the teams remaining have on their rosters. Having a player or two that get under opposing teams skins adds character and keeps fans from sitting on their hands all game waiting for something to stir them up.

I don’t want to wait til the main camp. He’s a FA. We wait around long enough, another team will sign him. Anyone know if he skated at other camps?

I believe Florian skated at multiple camps. Many FA’s do.
