I just remember this site pissed off cause someone like Dach is never available when we get to pick 3OA

Well now we have him 3 years later and I’ll be shocked if HuGo doesn’t have a plan to hit the reset button on his development and give him every chance to be successful.

All I know is that when we got Drouin the narrative was, he's young let him develop. Some still believe this, Dach deserves a year or two.
Agreed.....and right now Dach is what, 6 years younger than JD.
So if we think JD ( laughable ) can still get better, surely we can let a 21 yr old develop.

Dach sure can skate compared to kk
Lesson learned... I hope. You want to draft strong skaters and make them even stronger, not expect to fix a weak spot like we did with Kotkaniemi.

Drouin was young. Easy to say in retrospect, but there were issues that should have been noticed and flagged. Plus Habs made it worse by dumping The Next Saviour title on him.

It absolutely will unless he busts. But what is a 6’4” center who produces 50-60 points worth? What is he doing down low to wear out opposing dmen? I don’t know how physical the guy is but that kind of size helps with one on one battles and possibly with home ice advantage help with matchups

He surely has the potential but Habs will need to put him in an offensive position, at least to get his confidence back to begin with.

As for physicality.....there's not much if at all but it's not his game either. He's tall but he's not big.

Why would the trade be a wash if Dach hits 60 points?

Please explain your thought process on that one.

It's pretty simple, we gave up a 13th overall pick for him.

Dvorak it was the 28th overall pick for a 40 points players with potential.
Debrincat was traded for 7th overall pick and he's a 75 points players
I guessed the 13th overall pick would be worth in the middle of that, so 60 points.

Here some players drafted between 12 and 18 (Same range of that 13the overall pick)
2020: Jarvis, Mercer, Guhle
2019: Caufield, Boldy, Newhook, Krebs, Knight,
2018: Dobson, Farabee, Ty Smith
2017: Suzuki, Necas
2016: McAvoy, Chychrun, Fabbro
2015: Barzal, Connor, Chabot,

This is why I think this pick is worth easily a 50-60 points players.
If Dach becomes one it will be a wash....if he becomes 60+ points player it's a win.

I don't think HuGo is done by a long shot. Byron looks like he's retiring, one of Hoffman / Drouin are gone - if not both.
I love having Anderson and slafkovsky in the top 6. Can't remember the last time we had two legit, 6'4 PF on top two lines.

Dach is a gamble but i see him at worst, as a kind of Dvorak and 5 years younger (so a 45 pt , 3rd line C).
When we're bad next year, perhaps we find that 2C in the draft
Next year will be a better year as they say.

In his interview, his mood looked a little gloomy. Whether there's anything to it or it's just me hallucinating, I hope this fresh start can cheer him up and turn his career around.

I'm with you. Personnally I would've drafted with the pick. However I'll give this new management the benefit of the doubt on Dach

It's a lot to take in, being traded by the only team that he's known in his young career and all. Probably a mix of being pissed about it, happy about it, anxious about the new opportunity, etc. I could understand him being a bit stunned/in a daze about it for a day or two .

Big centers could take time to develop and I'd rather sacrifice Romanov on Dach than on a small winger. Developing a fast and big offensive team is something we are not used to.

Nobody was against KK developing on a cheap contract, that's the one year 6+M that killed it for him in Montreal.

I would use "apprehensive" instead of gloomy. He probably had a rollercoaster of emotions after learning he was traded to the Habs...and we don't know what Ghule told him about the media and fans here.

Maybe the interviews did not go well for Wright. Maybe he did a horrible job selling himself last minute. Its not just the habs that passed on him as well.
Guess we will be spending years comparing the two.
Maybe? He didn’t want to come here? Ever think of that?

Whatever we do, we should be patient. He may have a few more 30 point seasons before he hits his stride.

Realistically he has 22-23 and 23-24 to fix his wrist and learn playing normal again under MSL. If he doesnt break out by 24-25 he’s a miss. He’s a gamble that didnt cost too much tho so worth the try.

Looking at his stats, i think his rookie season (18-19 yo) was pretty good. Then started his sophomore season on a pretty good note before having his wrist injury that endend his season and pretty much killed his off-season too. Which brought him to last season where he struggled but the team in general did also. So i wouldn't be to scared about it. Let's not forget the year he missed, he was 19-20 yo. 99% of players are still in early development, playing in junior (or NCAA) or AHL at that age.

It will depend on how he is handled here in Mtl, but i'm quite sure his ceiling iis still pretty much reachable. At worst he is a 3rd line center. But i think he can be a beast and eventually take the no.1 center spot from Suzuki.

Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
Anderson - Dach - TBD
Drouin - Dvorak - Gallagher

With Hoffman, Dadonov, Armia, Byron, Poehling, Evans, Ylonen

Habs have far to many forwards. I think unless Juraj blows us away, I’d prefer to see him in Laval for a year. They should have a good team with Primeau, Mysak, Barron, maybe Guhle.

So something has to give between now and start of season. I haven’t even mentioned Pitlick, Pezetta.

We may not necessarily even need Dach to be a center beyond next year. We could be drafting a stud C next year whether that be Bedard, Fantilli, Dvorsky, etc.

He could very well end up a RW long-term and a good one at that, bringing size to the top 6 along with Slaf. His faceoff numbers are appalling so I'm not sure how fixable it is. What's Yanic Perreault up to these days? Hire him asap.

Hopefully he will have a nice offseason to workout some things with the help of the club.

Having said that, I would like to see some progress from Dach this upcoming season, not talking about 70 points or PPG, but signs of progression.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Dach. I liked his interview. He did mention he walked into a veteran dressing room in Chicago, although he learned a lot from them he wasn't among his own age group.

In Montreal, he'll have Suzuki, Caufield, Barron, Harris & probably Guhle. Montreal is becoming a younger group, so hopefully, he grows with the team.
