Don't know if this has been brought in the discussion or not, but....

In the 2019 draft who was selected before Dach and by which team?

Kaapo Kakko - NYR

Kinda gives the feeling that someone wanted a do over.
Interesting

I’m on board with the Dach project! I’m pulling for him!

But if we were gonna trade Romanov, i might have called the Jets and try to work something for Dubois. Maube Dvorak+Romanov+26th?
This was my thinking. If they're going for a youngish center why not pay a slightly higher price for Dubois who wants to be here and is certainly at least a 2C? Dubois isn't going to go for much more than what Dach did because he doesn't want to sign in most cities.

Major overpayment giving up a top 4 D who has proved he is a legitimate NHL player.
Romy's getting so overrated here. Dach has way more upside than Romy and is a big 21 year old center. He has the 3rd most points of any player from the 2019 draft and had 6 points in 9 games in the playoff bubble two years ago. Size and skill up the middle are very hard to land. Can't wait to see MSL go to work with him and try to untap some of that potential.

I like Roma but he's a defensive minded 2nd pairing player. He'll have a good career but it's not like we gave up a future star. Just my opinion of course

All this pain for Shane and we end up with a Suzuki-Dach 1-2 punch and the biggest project at 1OA in recent memory. Underwhelming to say the least.

I’ve had Dach in my keeper league for the last several seasons, and he hasn’t shown much, but he’s had flashes. I certainly think he’s got higher upside than Romanov at this point, and I think when you consider the trade is essentially Romanov + 2 thirds for him, that’s not the worst price in the world. I mean, we’ve wanted a giant centre for what, like 25 years now? He’s not a blue chip guy by any means, but he’s got higher upside than anything we’ve given up for him.

Yeah

Slaf might play on our 4th line one day, if we're lucky and he pans out

He will look great in the AHL on 2nd line tho

smh

Habs fans PTSD is a real thing...we whined all year about losing 1st overall.

Then the moment we got 1st overall, we whined how it was a weak draft.

Y'all don't deserve shit! lol

Feel like whining about whining is worse. People react, don't really see the problem. It's not like this organization has a proven track record of success last 25+ years to put absolute faith in. No one deserves anything, like the saying goes, can't appreciate the sun without the rain. If it pans out, the people who will be most happy are those who are skeptical.

I'd try doing the Pacioretty route and have him start year in the AHL. Put him with Slafkovsky and have them both with a older AHLer.

Slafkovsky - Dach - Ylonen
Heineman - Mysak - Pinard
Martel - Simoneau - Schnarr?
Gignac - Condotta - AHLer

Guhle - Barron
Norlinder - AHLer
Xhekaj - AHLer

Primeau

Would be nice to have a bunch of the futures play together and have success. Call up Dach if he does really well in November/December.

I haven't checked, but with the number of pro games he's played, he has to go through waivers

People need to calm down.

He is a 3th overall pick from 2019

He got very little experience at the nhl ..

Aside of injuries.. its not new... players struggle a lot in the first 2-3 years.. would you take Laffy?

Let hope he can pull it together.. he got some raw tools.. is big.. he joins a good group of young players.

Its a risk but a high reward one.

Where do you see me whining?

There's nothing wrong with reacting, it's just obvious Habs fans are jaded and can't enjoy anything.

As for this organization not having a proven track record of success the last 25+ years...what's that got to do with a new management core that's about 3-6 months old?

Would it not make sense to allow them the time to implement THEIR vision?

Or are we seriously going to measure every move they make against the predecessors?

That's not worth 20 minutes from a 4D like Romanov.
Romanov was solid, but if some of our D prospects work out, he's replaceable. Of course, you could also say Dach is replaceable if he becomes an unspectacular if solid 3C. Hopefully, the reason for the trade is that Montreal sees Dach becoming more at his position than Romanov already is at his.
What if they didn't vet that at all....?
If the staff didn't fully verify Dach's injury status they don't deserve a paycheque. Chances are nil they ignored it.

I don't see how Romanov is any more of a "legitimate NHL player" than Dach. They played him a ton last season and while he looked good at times, his results were pretty awful. Like a lot of Bergevin's acquisitions, I have questions about his toolbox. I'm not enamoured with Dach either, but I think there's more there than with Romanov and a lot more upside. Here's some player tracking from both:
