For Romanov to move past being a number 4 Dman on any decent team he would have to figure out offensive hockey. He did not even show flashes of offensive hockey in his first 3 years.....what makes you think he would have in the near future. He will always be the better skating version of Emelin.
Loved Romy because of the hits, but he had zero offense..........thinking the boys including MSL decided he was expendable because of the young D that are coming up the pipe line.......
Curious to see his ask for money also...........maybe the $$$ was a huge issue for HuGo?

The more I look into Kirby, the more I see they had a terrible coach in Chicago. Along with how awful they developed him.

The kid is big. The kid had hands. The kid has vision. I like him more and more.

As for Romanov yes he can throw big hits. But his offensve is meh. Along with getting caught out of position more then I would like.

But as for Slaf he was and is the BPA loved every second of it.

He’ll turn 22 this year. Give him 2 years to find some offence.

This will be his 4th season, I don't wanna do this whole ''he's only [current number of years] old'' song and dance like we did with Drouin.
He's actually 21 until next January. Very young for a big center. We really didn't give up a lot for him and he doesn't need to be a star. We're all happy with tanking another season so why not take a flyer on a 6ft4 center with some top 6 upside and character? Hopefully MSL can give his development a boost and maybe Vinny L can work with him.

Watching some video of Dach...................this could be a great deal here guys, the kid has some talent......young and has size......
Why has everyone jumped off of the trust HuGo bandwagon? My god guys, we just had Timmins and Bargainbin for TEN years together as a duo...............

So if dach somehow manages to equal Wright, what does that make slafkovsky?

It makes him....promising LW first round prospect.

Clearly HuGo identified that we needed a top prospect center. They made multiple moves in order to get Dach instead of simply drafting one. In their minds eye, Dach is the best center over all other centers available within the first round. Thus, the comparable in the next years will be between Dach and all other potential centers they could of drafted - more specifically Wright as he was the most touted center of this draft.

What I also find odd is the fact that Dach is RFA. Wonder how much they will be giving him knowing that they moved another RFA in Romanov to acquire him. Again, drafting a center would of been wiser money wise becaus of ELC, without losing any asset.

I haven't been tracking Dach at all besides knowing he's been disappointing since he was drafted. His stats suggest as much too.

Anyone with better knowledge willing to update the rest of us? He was a amazing prospect in his draft year, that I remember. What's happened since?
From my cousin who is a life long Hawks fan when asked what can i expect from Kirby Dach...

"He's alright. He's shows greatness at time. Not consistent tho. In my mind he should have been in the minors for a year. Broke his wrist last year I think or the year before but amazing talent and big. I like him when he plays his game " - Habsfather's Cousin.

Yeah, like I said in the other thread, if he can't score 40 points this season that will show zero progression in 4 years and he can safely be called a bust.

It may take a few more years for all Habs fans to call him our bust though.

But maybe he breaks through this season.

Not everyone.

More than ever aboard the Superman Kent and Flash Gorton train.

They remind me of the Maestro. Absolutely beautiful management team.

Don't know if this has been brought in the discussion or not, but....

In the 2019 draft who was selected before Dach and by which team?

Kaapo Kakko - NYR

Kinda gives the feeling that someone wanted a do over.

Can't pretend to have watched Dach play a whole lot but it sounds a lot like KK -- rushed a little bit because of the weird quasi-phase the team was in, underperformed, and soured. I want to say "wait and see" because some guys don't even make it to the NHL until his age but the numbers obviously don't wow you looking at them.

Many here are so overreactive and can't see through the weeds. A big 21 year old 6ft4 center with upside who has had bad luck with injuries. This is a money ball type of pick up (probably a Team 33 recommendation) and this new regime is putting large emphasis on player development which this organization has been sorely lacking.

We should keep acquiring these types of players and go to work on their development. It's not like we're trying to win the Cup this year. LOL!

Dach has played two full seasons in three years, 152 NHL games total. He played only 18 games in 2020/21, the season when he was injured. He's 21.5 years old.

By comparison, Kotkaniemi just turned 22 and has played 237 games over four seasons – 3 full seasons and approx. half of another.

I think the downside here is we turned Romanov (a 2nd pair LHD who's not a big point producer) into a Lars Eller 3C and we'll have a good chance at taking a top 6 center with our top 10 pick in 2023.

The upside is tremendous.
Is that even a downside? Eller was about as valuable as a Romanov when he was in Washington, and he could explode into a great playoff run.

Yup. The only hope I have is that last year was his "sophomore slump" year because of the lost 2020 season. But if he doesn't show improvement this season, it's just not there.

My impression was that @WeThreeKings liked the trade for that very reason.
You seem to be correct. My misinterpretation, although i knew he liked the trade, I thought he overshot the downside.

Not to mention Dach's injury, if the pictures are real, was atrocious. KK didn't suffer anything like that.
