The variation I’ve heard is “se faire passer un Québec . ». But, the sapin one is much more common.

I agree, Quebec French is such a colourful language and some expressions are truly special.
« Swing la bacaisse dans l’fond d’la boîte à bois »😂😂🤣🤣

I’m a 38 years old born and raised frenchy and only really understood what that meant like 3 years ago lmao

I’m only answering this post cause it’s the first time I see the use of “calvince” (you spelled it incorrectly, though, lol) on this forum.

“Calvince”, a variation of “calvaire”, is a mild québécois swear word. I always look for originality in the use of words or expressions. I can’t however remember the last time I actually heard someone use it so kudos to you for digging that out from “les boules à mites.” :)
Calvaire is a goldmine in terms of possible euphemisms (minced oaths): calvince, calvâsse, calvinus! It is one of the best ecclesiastical terms that we can exploit.

My mother's family is from the Lac St-Jean area (I was born there too), and my mother had many siblings, all of whom were an inexhaustible source of these variations. Unfortunately, I cannot use them in the US without appearing as an extraterrestrial. All the more so if interacting with French people (there are some here in VA, affiliated with NATO).

I like the idea of playing Anderson with Slaf though...
Monahan-Suzuki-Caufield
Hoffman-Dvorak-Gallagher
Slafkovsky-Dach-Anderson
Drouin -Evans-Pitlick
extras: Dadonov, Pezzetta
IR: Armia
LTIR: Byron

Hoffman, Drouin, Dadonov interchangeable. If two out of threee suck, draw Pezzetta in.

No need to draft Wright or Cooley when you acquire a young C like Kirby Dach.

He is even bigger than both, he have already good two-way game, he have high hockey IQ, great passing ability and great hands.

Suzuki - Dach... that's a very good combo C to me for many years to come. We can easily add Owen Beck in that C core.

Dach also adds a size element and a gritty game, both of which are not in large supply on this roster. Securing Dach also meant not having to pass up on another talented player in Slaf who also offers size.

The great thing about the type of size Hughes has added, is that it’s not size for the sake of it but real talent that happens to come in larger players, so as to better optimize the team’s asset mix.

I saw someone on twitter saying he was soft again tonight

"wow he's so good but he's god damn soft''

like... i really don't understand. Those same people never said Suzuki was soft and Dach has kinda a grittier game i find.
I think the problem comes with the fact that the Habs had a small team that got roughed up alot for pretty much the last 25 years, when they finally get a big frame player, they want him to hit and fight if not, he's sofff:rolleyes:

Man, I really hope what we're seeing with Dach in the pre-season is the real deal. It will finally give the habs two legit top 6 centres that are under 25!

The only concern I have is that Dach is primarily a playmaker and we know how much trouble this team has with wingers and defenseman scoring goals. Being a pass first centre, I am hoping that whoever he's setting up will actually pot some goals.

If he plays during the season as he has in the pre-season, and if they get goal support from the backend, I think Dach can put up 40-50 points this year.

If Gallagher and Anderson each get 20 goals, and Matheson get's 10 goals, I think he can reach that point total.

We need to clone Caufield.. or be lucky enough to draft Yager.

If this keeps up, it will be apparent that HuGo won that trade. Both halves of that trade in fact, since Romanov was not going to be enough to pry Dach from the Hawks.

This one, and certainly Monahan and a first for nothing, are beneficial trades that can help turn a franchise around. Though the Habs ship was not just misdirected but also listing, so it had to be righted in so many ways as well.

As they keep emphasizing size and speed, while also addressing dire areas of need like defense and goaltending, I think that they can get this done. HuGo have such a nose (or anticipation) for weaknesses in the trade market. It's impressive to behold.

I think Dach will easily become our number 2. The only thing I think he needs to do is add muscle. He's a bit lanky. He got knocked down a couple times and I think some muscle/weight might help absorb more hits and lessen the chance of injury. Aside from that, he almost reminds me Lecavalier. Maybe a "Lecavalier light". Once they settle in linemates, I think they have some pretty good forward lines.

It's funny because in a few months he did everything we all were told was too hard (get Cs, 1st rounders, trade away salary, get prospects back, etc). He did it with no cap space while MB sat on a ton of cap space for half his tenure.
It's true, but to be fair, different times. Teams are shedding players in order to tank or save space, the cap was essentially frozen, the Habs had a huge gap in young talent. Not to mention, they didn't commit to a rebuild. I'm glad MB is gone, but I think we need to keep it in perspective.

We'll agree to disagree. Good GMs work with what they are given. Bergevin had way more flexibility cap wise and draft capital/young core that was already putting up 100+pt seasons. I highly doubt someone who struggled to fill holes over 10 years would have done what Hughes pulled off in a few months. The cap being frozen actually makes it harder for Hughes to do anything, not easier. Who knows what moves we'd see if teams actually had space to take on guys like Hoffman/Drouin or Anderson/Dvorak.

I don't know how good Dach will become, but based on what we're seeing in preseason the potential is exciting. The hands/vision the guy has is something.
