That was apparently reported by Mathias Brunet on the radio (probably BPM), and brought back by Anthony Marcotte & Tony Marinaro recently refered to it as well.
Reference on MSN:
It seems suspicious to me that this starts being reported on within the last few weeks rather then when training camp was actually taking place.

Dach knew this season was going to be hard for him no matter what, coming off ACL and MCL reconstruction for a knee injury that kept him out of all but two games last season.
“I knew it would take time,” Dach said to us on Wednesday. “I was at home last summer (in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.) watching the Oilers run with my friends, seeing how Connor Brown (who tore his ACL the season prior) had struggled all year before playing amazing in the playoffs, and I was thinking about it.”

“I kind of looked at that maybe three weeks ago and decided to go deeper and just do everything possible to give myself the best chance and give my teammates and coaches the best version of me,” he said. “I committed to finding that extra level of drive and commitment to the game and doing all the little things before and after practice and in the gym and on off-days — treating my body right and making sure I’m doing the right things to feel good for the next day — to build better habits.
“I think there’s a lot of off-ice work and stuff that I do on my own when nobody’s around now. If we have the chance some days, sometimes I’ll get out early when nobody’s around and skate by myself to just get a feel of the puck. And in the gym, it’s not just doing everything hard that one day but more about consistency and building up and doing everything right; not overdoing it, but having that consistency to hopefully change the layout of my season and my trajectory.”
It hasn’t happened yet, but it would never happen if Dach refused to face some hard truths he’s currently grappling with.
We asked him if he’d approach last summer’s preparation for this season differently, and he said, “For sure.”

“I think this year has honestly felt like a bunch of tests,” Dach said. “It’s honestly felt like a lot of learning lessons, a lot of failing, a lot of retaking classes. Through those tough moments, those dark moments, those failures, you learn and become better with it. Over time it builds and you grow into the person and player you want to be. What I’m trying to do is take away those lessons of what maybe I should’ve done last summer and what I need to do next summer and what I’m doing right now in-season and how I need to continue that so that I take it into next summer and build on it and not put myself in a spot where I step further back.”

“I always tell our young players that I’m working more for their future as a player and not necessarily for who they are today as a player,” he said. “That’s part of trying to get your young players to evolve, because that’s what’s best for their future and, even more so, for the future of the team.”
It’s hard to imagine the opposite approach would be better for Dach right now.
His fragile confidence being trampled on won’t help.
“It’s nice to have a coach that believes in you and wants you to get better and doesn’t just shut you out and turn you away,” Dach said. “I think when, as a player, you get into a bad place, your game or your career can go off the rails and leave you without even knowing what’ll be the next step. It’s been nice to have his support, and my teammates’ support, and trainers and everybody here. There have been hard conversations, and there’s been things I’ve needed to clean up in my game on my own. I’m trying to clean that up more and more with each game and be better.”

"Recovering" He's been practicing on the ice since late May. His injury excuse 6 months after is getting ridiculous.

He is playing bad , he's lazy and he often kill plays.
What's wrong with saying the truth? He almost leads the +/- in the league while his linemates are all better. At one point you gotta start realizing perhaps he's just not that good and we got fleeced
A knee injury should not impact desire and intensity. The guy is lazy without the puck.

After ACL reconstruction the knee will never have 100% of its previous strength & mobility - I’m no pro athlete but having gone through it, knee feels very different even after rehab which starts quickly after the procedure.

I’m always aware of my knee while I’m on the ice, it simply stays on the back of one’s mind - so I can only imagine what it must be for Dach at the highest level of competition when the stride he historically took from getting to point B from A now doesn’t respond in the same manner or going in for a puck battle and not wanting to twist that knee out of fear of the unknown

I don't understand why people feel the need to shit on a guy recovering. Not only that but he makes like 3mill and he has 1 season left. This guy is the least of our concerns, if he's still terrible next season we just don't sign him.
Wish I could like this a thousand times , who cares Dach and Newhook are the side project not the main one , Dach has time to figure things out and if he can't its not the end of the world.

Disengaging from social media is a very good idea. I think all players should do this.

Long road back for this guy. Whether he’s with us or somewhere else I’m rooting for him.

He tore his ACL and his MCL as well. Brutal.

Ok, haven’t had knee surgery, take your word.

However, how does the knee impact the work ethic? He can still move his feet and work hard on the back check even if he doesn’t feel the same or worse lost a step. Nobody is broken down more then Gally and you can tell he is busting it every shift, can’t say that about Kirby. That attitude comes from the middle of the chest.

I’m confident he will be gone by the time his contract expires.

I don't dislike Kirby Dach as a person or a hockey player for that matter but he is struggling on the ice both as a winger and as a center. He was the first high-profile trade for Hughes as a GM and he is getting every chance to succeed, especially after a major injury, I get it but there will come a time when they have seen enough.

He would be claimed for potential.
There are GMs that don't manage exclusively for the present...
Maybe we should do that too, while we are not contending... Just sayin'.

Apparently, he did not report to camp in shape. Let's see next year if he got the message and has a great summer.
The contract would cause GM's to pump the brakes. How many waiver wire players that earn 3 million plus per season are claimed on waivers? I am asking out of curiosity.

For those of you claiming that Dach would get claimed, just take a gander at what former 2nd overall Kaako went for. Only signed for a year and netted a low return.

Compare their career years. Dach only had 2 less points in 24 less games than Kakko.

I’d drive to Montreal immediately and call for Hughes head if he waived Dach.

Yes at 3 million a year.

In a trade you are probably getting a 2nd or a 3rd round pick.

It makes no sense to trade him. It makes even less sense to waive him.
I'd vote 3rd round pick which isn't much based on his current role with the team. I read some rumors suggesting that Hughes is looking to make a trade. I am curious as to who he is looking to move? Roster players or picks?
