Andrei Markov become a better version of himself after his injuries. Sooo Kirby Dach at 22 years old, can easily become much better after his injuries. Keep calm people and he will be comeback better...

Markov was not a better version of himself after the injuries by any stretch of the imagination. He was extremely slow but could still play at a relatively high level due to his IQ, puck skills and great defensive stick.

Agreed, as Dach won't become better just because he got hurt and repairs to the ACL allegedly are stronger than the original sinew.

However, Markova was never worse because of the injuries.

Just not the best skater but, asyou say, someone that could overcome that because of his positioning, his vision and because of his high hockey IQ.

Markov was never a strong skater but he took a significant step back after the injuries and was one of the slowest players in the league. He became a real gamble in the offensive zone as he just could not get back at all if there was a turnover. H remained a great PP quarterback and defended well in the dzone but losing a step that he could not afford to lose was painful to watch at times and definitely affected his overall effectiveness post injury.

Prior to the injury he was on the fringes of entering Norris consideration and post injury he was a flawed version of his former self as even with his high IQ and anticipation he could not get to the places that he needed to get to anymore despite having a head start from anticipating the play.

Even by HF standards it’s kind of unbelievable how much of the post-Dach-injury narrative completely ignores Markov’s significant loss of speed. Never mind the fact Markov had an entire accomplished career before he suffered a catastrophic injury…

There are a few very important differences such as Dach being a strong skater with much better mechanics than Markov ever had and significant orthopedic surgical/rehabilitation advances that have occurred over the last 15 years. Markov was also 32 at the time of his first knee injury and Dach is a full decade younger at 22.

I think much of the negative noise in this thread is born from frustration and disappointment that has contaminated the conversation and steered it away from rational discourse. Dach's odds are very good to return to form Hopefully there are no residual problems or mental barriers that are created from this and he can pick up from where he left off because he certainly looked like the best forward on the team in the 4 periods that he played in.

Given that we are rebuilding, I understand that the idea with Monahan is to accentuate his value in order to sell him at a high price in the TRADE LIMIT.

But seeing that Dach is made of glass and seeing how much Monahan helps the team... maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to sign him for a longer period of time.

Only way I sign Monahan is if I think he can help us when we're ready to contend.

Also, remember, Monahan has an extensive injury history. No guarantee he can stay healthy. So if we give him a long term contract there's a risk he re-injures his hips and can still play, but much less effectively.

Markov had his ACL repaired like 8 years ago.

There's been a lot of progress in joint tears since then.
More like 12 years ago.
Modern surgical techniques and advancements in physical therapy have made anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and recovery a much more manageable injury than in the past.
No guarantees, but maybe, just maybe...........

Habs fans are eternal optimists. A catastrophic ACL+MCL injury means Dach can come back stronger and better!

Excellent.

Personally, i think there is no doubt he will get back to his level of play.

Problem is he become unreliable due to too many injuries.

He is a top 6C. My personal opinion is that he was becoming our best C.

Its just an important, very difficult role to fill that we cant afford to have a too often injured player in this spot if we want to have sustainable success. Will he injure himself again next season after 30 games?

We will need two strong season without injuries to gain confidence back. Considering this, i would rather view him as a winger and a solution to play with Suzuki and Caufield instead of a top 6C.

We should go all in on someone like Elias Petterssson if he becomes available. Dach injuries would then become less of a problem. Big, big bonus if he stays healthy but too much unknown right now.

Concerning his injuries tho, its true that its stronger after the operation. They will take a tendon on his legs for his knees. Its better to completely broke it than tear it partially. The former heals stronger, the latter make his knees more injury prone.

It sucks and it kills the momentum of our rebuild.

I've heard this too.

Whatever works, I want his full recovery. It's just shooting fish in a barrel whenever certain Habs loons say things like that -- I feel obligated to call it out.

I'd trade a lot to acquire EP... but I'm not sure Hughes has the boules to radically change the makeup of the team he's inherited. I'll believe it when I see it.

I think that both Dach and Guhle need to manage contacts better. They don't put their body in a good enough position to brace for and absorb the impact, which leaves them more likely to sustain injuries. I've noticed that about both since last year. They're both a little reckless with their bodies.

This is a major setback to our rebuild and there's no two ways about it. We had doubts previously whether Suzuki - Dach is a good enough center line and now we might not even have that. It changes the picture entirely.

It’s a setback for Dach since he was about to explode but we were not competing this year anyway

Agreed, I suppose it depends on the return.
