Kingston Frontenacs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

Still, that is only 1 player out of the whole lineup.

They need to find a way to at least get one point out of that game, especially taking a lead into the third and tied late. They can’t be losing two points to one of the worst teams in the league given the battle that they are in between first and fifth in the conference and first and third in the division.

Wasn’t the best game and didn’t get the stops when needed either. And Battaglia needs to be better.
Watching the game live, they all lacked jump. Nobody seemed to have that extra energy that was needed. Mason should’ve had that last goal, but it was a bit of a knuckler.

Yeah, I was there as well. I also struggle to find someone that had jump. Except maybe McGowen and Uronen. And the 4th line (which hardly played). But, otherwise it was pretty bleak.

I picked on Battaglia as he consistently turned the puck over and plays seemed to die on his stick. Not only that but one of his turnovers in the offensive zone led to a goal.

Hes the anchor for the whole d core. Plus 30 doing something good.

Mix that with not a whole lot of time between games and you get tired legs in the third. To put into perspective when guys like burns are out of the lineup that pushes guys like McGowan, Moore, bishop, Williamson etc for extra minutes and while they’re all decent, none are near the level of burns.

Battaglia is a hog and has been since about October or November.

Uronen with 3 goals, 6 assists and 9 points across 3 games this week. What are the odds he gets player of the week back to back?? Has that even happened before with the fronts lol?

I would argue that McGowan is up there with Burns, but he’s probably my favourite Dman. I thought he was top 4 last year as well when everyone was on him a bit. That being said, 100% agree on the other three, and it showed at times as well.

My point was they should still be able to beat one of the worst teams in the league with a full forward lineup, and down ‘only’ their top Dman (even if a bit tired).

I think McGowan is everyone’s favourite d man lol. Nowhere near burns though.

Burns: 7G 24A, 31 pts. +34 on season on first d line whole season playing the top players of opposing teams every shift

McGowan: 6G 10A 16 pts +14 (in 8 less games though)

+20 and almost double the points while being a stay at home d man is pretty impressive.

Imo McGowan is better at body checking, skating, goal scoring(because of his speed) and keeping a level head. Burns is better at everything else.

Have loved McGowan since his rookie season and even he had his big injury. This year he is one of the most improved fronts- but burns has been one of the most improved too in my opinion.

I agree it wasn’t a great effort. Even from the first period I was a little worried when I believe it as 1-1. I would’ve thought they’d carry some of the momentum into that game from battling back against Saginaw but it seems they didn’t. Ottawa has our number this year it seems. Happens to every team. In 2015 in particular I remember we had the generals number and they went on to win the memorial cup. Not comparing obviously but just that junior hockey is weird sometimes.

He has 35 assists this year, 10 more assists than goals- not sure “hog” is an accurate reflection.

Does anyone know what Kingston's team record is for longest consecutive goal streak? Uronen is currently on an 8 game streak. In the internet era he has matched the record - equalling Chromiak in 2022, Zigomanis in 2000 and Chris Allen in 1998.

Have you watched a single game? He’s a great player but probably turns the puck over double digit times every game and also a lot of times tries to go through 3 or 4 guys rather than just making the easy pass to his teammates. Seems pretty selfish to me.

He is also the king of the “almost play of the year” goals when he tries to deke through the whole team like he’s Connor McDavid and loses the puck.

If he just dumped it in or passed it off to teammates I’m sure he’d have far more points rather than being a Nathan moon type of player doing the same thing every time you go up the ice.

No I have not watched a single game -- except for every home game and every road game, most of which in person - but nope, don't know what I am talking about. He turns over the puck for sure. Tries to do too much, yep, but I take exception to the term "hog", and I won't agree with that assessment. If he was a "hog" as you term it, I'm sure his coach would nail his ass to the bench - but perhaps because he does make things happen. There are far too many "fans" that seem to hold a lot of bias and grudge about specific players and will nit pick and gripe about them, which is a real shame.

Battaglia just has flashes of holding the puck a second or 2 too long and losing his passing lane then he has to hold it to long to try and open a lane back up again.
I don’t think he intentionally looks them off or anything like that but the decision making could improve

People said Thibodeau was a hog, correct? Believe he played top 6 minutes still all last year and didn’t have anywhere near the skill Battaglia does this year

Not a grudge against him. I want to see the kid do well but that’s clearly something that needs to be improved upon.

Not always sunshine and rainbows. Same as last year when burns took too many penalties, even at the start of the year he wasn’t the greatest for that. Seems he’s worked on that lots as I’m sure Battaglia will with his decision making. Maybe it isn’t hogging but there’s definitely some very poor decision making going on at times.

Thibodeau was a much less skilled smaller version of Battaglia he was getting bullied off the puck with ease.
I find bates just forces passes into no where sometimes after holding the puck to long.

Absolutely if he made 1 or 2 moves and then passed it opposed to 3 or 4 I’m sure he’d be really stuffing the stat sheet. Have noticed this in particular ever since he had that really hot start and was top of the league in points.
