They went for fit over the star power for sure. I feel like they're putting a lot of belief in their system and structure; something Mann has been preaching all year long.

They got three guys that bring in championship experience and all fill a role. If you look at the lineup and just take a stab at like combos, it's not as bad as people on here are making it out to be. Can they keep up with Oshawa and Barrie? Obviously yet to be seen, but a strong TEAM can outperform stars. I see what they were going for, just obviously can't tell if it'll work or not yet.

As it stands now, lines could be some combination of:

Miedema-Guindon-Willis
Battaglia-Hopkins-Soto
Pickell-Hay-Uronen
Clark-Buttar-Heyes

Burns-Williamson
Pieniniemi-Bishop
McGowan-Uens

(Mann loves his LD-RD pairs, but as we've seen he mixes the D pairs up all the time so take the above with a grain of salt)

Lalonde
Vaccari
Betts

I think this team will surprise some people. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong....but I'm decently excited about this roster as it stands. It was expensive sure, but at you've got to take advantage of the older crop of guys and two reeeeeally good imports. Two of the very best we've ever had.

They have some decent kids they’ve drafted past 2 seasons to help fill out plus they have intention on 2 import players that will be impactful. Id rather they take a shot than sit by and live with would/could/should haves. Oshawa and or Barrie will be eliminated at some point too, and no guarantees for next year either -
I think you’re missing my point.

This was inevitable from the get go they had to make this year year no matter what with the 05’s.

When they trade guys off for picks etc how are guys like Buttar, Kelly going to fill spots such as Battaglia, Soto?

Short answer: they won’t.
Long answer: they are too young and will struggle to do so but will be great when they are 18/19

I’d rather they blow their brains out like they did today rather than do nothing at the deadline.

I’d even prefer a sell over doing nothing with the team they had before today. I’m glad cooper used his head and went and got some players even if he overpaid the cost of these 3 will be reduced or filled when they trade a lot of the 19 year olds that come back.

Barrie I think has a legit shot at London. Only thing that sucks for them- they’ll have to go through Oshawa to get there and they may beat eachother up in a 7 game series while London sits and watches it all unfold? How will injuries go? That was a big factor in last years OHL final with sennecke out (mind you it wouldn’t have changed much and Oshawa still would’ve been steamrolled like they were but it wouldn’t have been quite as bad)

If I’m Oshawa. With my remaining picks and Owen griffin I’m making a call to Guelph and inquiring about Jett Luchanko.

Since we're talking about the future I decided to update my stats table with the last 2 draft classes - a couple players looking decent from the 'last couple drafts that may end up signed in Oliver Turnbull.

But overall it's not looking too great - I know it's tough to expect a lot out of the U18 draft but for Shewfelt being signed and only having 2 points in 18 games isn't a great look.

I'm hoping players like Buttar, Kelly, McCuaig will be able to take big steps forward next year with expanded opportunity.

Does anyone know if the Fronts are done or might there be another trade or two before Friday?
They have to upgrade on Heyes. Not sure the lineup projections for you guys but one has Heyes on the 4th line no way you can have a OA on the 4th line

I think if they're going to upgrade on an OA it's gotta ba Lalonde first just because an OA tandem goalie is a waste of a resource. Heyes is still likely 3rd line and I could see him being a good fit with Hay (and not because their names are similar)

Thinking out loud, with Kingston being up in North Bay on Thursday and in the Soo Friday, I would have to think if there is a goalie move it happens tomorrow. Would be a bit of a grimy move to bring Lalonde to NB only to move him while they're up north.

I wouldn't be surprised if any other moves they're looking at are done tomorrow too so they can meet up with the team and bus up together.

Could upgrade both in one trade with the Soo. Allard and shenkle are an upgrade over heyes and lalonde. Imo, respectfully.

That would actually make your team much stronger.

Sudbury is along the way. A wolves OA and Krawchuk can be picked up on route.

I agree the most important piece here is shenkel. I have no idea if Terrance is being considered by the management, I was just informing everyone that he has mentioned to players he would like out of Erie to come back closer to home

Keeping a guy who has 30 goals in 189 games as one of your OA’s when your all in is mind boggling.
It’s not when you understand team dynamics, kingston has struggled with culture heyes holds that culture together it’s very rare to have players who are selfless and put the team first. If you ask the players not one of them wants heyes moved for the run

There were posters on these forums who criticized the Petes for keeping Shawn Spearing in their championship season. In the playoffs he was their leader and best defenceman who did everything to help his team win including blocking a shot that broke his jaw. A players value cannot be determined by stats alone.

Toronto, ON.
Overpaid for 3 mem cup champions. Bishop will be back next year. Have to pay to play.

Really hurt not having a 16 year old they can trade and weir and Velliaris don’t have much value

Remaining picks + Lalonde probably
Agreed. A lot to pay and this could backfire on Kingston, but I like cooper actually trying to improve and go for it. Teams likely aren’t giving him many deals, he’ll have to overpay and especially Saginaw as Drinkill is great at what he does, basically recouping all his picks he had spent last year, or close to it. Crazy good work, but still 3 good players for Kingston imo. I fear them more now for sure than I did yesterday. Hay is a playoff guy and will be more valuable than his points and plus/minus indicate imo. Willis is really good and is productive, plus a very good two way guy. Bishop is a two year guy and is huge, plus right shot. He’s a good 4-6 and PK guy.

FF I am confused I thought that you made these trades to be a top contender. BUT all you are talking about is what they will bring next year. THEN, to top it off, you say that it will be Oshawa and Barrie fighting to decide who plays London.

Why would you make these deals if you are not counting on the Fronts winning or getting to the conference final? It seems like a waste. This team, the way it was, I think, was a second-round team without the massive expenditure.

If that is the case this was a complete waste.

Personally, I see you guys battling with Oshawa for second place in the conference and with Niagara for third overall.

Then, there will be goaltending, which will be the difference between whoever you play in the 2nd round.
You now have the leadership, the defence, and the offence to be a powerful team.

I think you probably have 2 hot defencemen and 2 lines that can score. If you move Uronen up with Battaglia , it will be hard to match lines against them.

Next year is next year.

Cooper would be stupid not to atleast explore those 2

Tuomas looks like he loves it here and his brothers and family members have left comments and likes on posts multiple times
You might be reminded that there are going to be a lot of CHL teams that will be drafted ahead of you. If they are good then other West or Q teams as well as OHL will be getting first shot.

There are ways to make this wok. Every OHL draft has teams that make it wok and I imagine the other two leagues run into the same situation.
