I’ll always favour getting players that can play a role and can actually be attained. Obviously that amount of picks and combinations of players wasn’t going to yield McCue, Musty etc… as a long time Kingston sth im ok with the cost because as I’ve said in other posts - picks are just vapourware- ideas that can end up being nothing more than a nice idea. Some kid playing u14 in Whitby that is projected to be a 2nd round Ohl pick is as helpful as Cam Bergeron who was actually drafted but quit hockey the next season, not very valuable. Picks can be recouped in the offseason- players that can contribute now is what matters. It just so rarely works out spending this many picks on no elite player. Hay is a gamer. KGN fans will like him if they can forget what he cost. Money on draws. Physical. Leader. Not much offense to him though. only 13 points this yr on a team that plays offensive/fast. -19 isn't great either.
Bishop I've never been very impressed by. He's big & definitely takes away space which is nice, but he's really inconsistent for playing mean/physical for his size & he's not great with the puck. Playing sheltered I think he'll do fine, but if you put him out there against OSH/BRNT/BAR/LDN/WSR top-6 guys he'll get exposed.
Willis is good. Does a bit of everything. Also a gamer. My worry. he scored 13 goals in 1 week this year. the other 21 games he only has 4 goals. Also that almost all his goals came off assists by Misa or Parekh. He isn't a guy who generates by himself or can drive a line.
I'm pretty dumbfounded by the cost for these 3. I would've laughed them off the phone if they asked for 16 picks & 3 young guys, even if they don't look to be overly promising. Would've been MUCH better spent on Musty/Pinelli/McCue/Smith etc.
