The challenge with concessions is that usually, the team does not get any of that money. Is it different in Kingston.
@Truthking is right. At this stage, the only way you could get a large crowd offer 2 dollar tickets and free beer. I'm not sure you would fill the place or that people would watch the game but.....
Going to a Fronts game used to be an event each week.
It was something that you looked forward to.
The difference was that it was a fun night out, watching good hockey, meeting with friends, and sharing a coffee and those great Browns Fries with the other regular hot stove members.
Hell, it used to be a date night for a lot of high school kids.
Kingston was a thriving economy. Alcan, Dupont, and Milhaven Fibre were going strong. People were living a good life. tickets were cheap, and the Canadians/early Fronts had good teams.
The problem now is partly everything we have discussed. most people live in the west end, so it is a pain to go home, get the kids organized, get supper and then go to the game.
Imagine if they had built the area out where the township did off the 401 at Highway 38.
Anyway, they still wouldn't be getting the big crowds. People got fed up with the We sell everything for a run this year and then spend the next three sucking.
The downfall fan-wise started with Mav, unfortunately. He and Springer had the idea that you had to make the first round no matter what the cost and kept trading young players for OA, getting rid of coaches that had long-term plans and wanted a disciplined team.
Then Springer decided to make the big pronouncement that the team needed a new arena in order for him to fill the stands and provide a better on-ice product. I am not debating if a new arena was needed. That is a given. The location of the new arena will long be debated by old fogies like me.
But after getting the new arena, it was the same old Mav same old team.
Ottawa to an extent, went through this the difference was that they had a coach and GM who knew what he was doing, But I can honestly say that as far as pinching pennies Springer has nothing on Earl and Howard.
Everything we have talked about prices, parking, location, cost of food, That all goes away IF they do one thing and do it right.
Springer spends some more money gets a bigger business right off, hires a GM who knows what to do and gives him the money to hire a top coach that has been around for a while and wins. Then they give him a team that he can develop along with the ability to put together a 5-10-year plan with the GM.
Why do you go to the theatre these days? Because it is a movie you want to see. Do you care about the price NO.
Why do you go to X for dinner is it because you are hungry or they have the food you love?
Why do people pay through the nose to go to concerts is it just for the music or is because of love for a band or singer?
