Another loss, this time to florida, it's time to stop pretending there is a switch to flip, what really happened last year was gaborik was a difference maker

Tonight's game was pretty emblematic of the whole season. With a lead and in control in the third, stupid mistake, immediate goal(s) against, and landslide from there.

They've run the battery dry on the switch. Pretty clear it needs a recharge.

The record in one goal games and Ot/shootouts should be the surprising thing as the thing the team has been known most for over the last several years is bearing down when we need a goal and locking down when we have a lead. That has to be exhausting and it shows.

Gaborik was a difference maker on offense. His goals were a nice bonus to have in the playoffs, but the Kings were hardly in danger of missing and still considered a top contender without him.

The major difference between the Kings in previous years and this year is on the defensive side.

I still say they make it. I think they'll go on a run, and Vancouver and/or Calgary will fall out of the playoffs.

Ah well, even if they ultimately miss the playoffs, some dumb GM will still gift the Kings their missing piece at the trade deadline in exchange for LA's garbage. LA will also win the draft lottery, and come back next year to win the Cup again.

Yeah.

The upcoming capstration is going to force the team to flush some of that age out of the system in favor of cheap ELCs though.

Of the aging pieces, Sharp, Keith , Hossa and Crawford are the only important ones, and even two of them may be gone next season depending on the cap (Keith obviously won't be one of the ones out the door).
Duncan Keith and Marian Hossa are going nowhere due to the salary cap recapture penalties associated with their contracts. Corey Crawford was the only Chicago Blackhawk that showed up against the Minnesota Wild the other night.

Patrick Sharp has trade value and it's better to trade an asset one year too early than one year too late especially in salary cap constrained environment.

Well it's been a great run. I would trade anything for that to happen to my team. Even if they miss the playoffs 10 straight years after.

without gaborik they wouldn't have won the west, he was that good for them, barring another deal like that the kings are in trouble

This is the Blues chance to win a cup. It's their year imo.

I agree. Nashville is having a great season, but I think the the Blues are the better team.

And yet I'd still have a hard time betting on them.

The salary recapture affects the Hawks whether Hossa (or Keith), stay or go.

It's not like keeping him in Chicago affords the Hawks the ability to hold a gun to Hossa's head and prevent from retiring if he chooses.

I guess you figure that they'll try to gussy it up as an LTIR, whereas the team he's hypothetically traded to wouldn't?

I think Sharp is essentially guaranteed to be moved in the off-season. I think Crawford could be moved depending on the cap and the return.

Keith will retire a Hawk. Nobody on this team will ever wear the number 2 again.

That's pretty reductive but I get what you're saying.

Lombardi has made a big deal every deadline so far but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't this time given the standing AND the Voynov situation. Not a point in making a deal unless we are less than a handful out

On one hand, I agree it's reductive reasoning, but on the other hand, given the razor-thin margin by which the Kings won all three of their first rounds, you could argue without his goals, the Kings don't make it to the Finals.

Certainly you don't make it without that WTF rebound-out-the-air 3rd period tying goal in game 7 against the Hawks.

...I swear I'm not bitter.

The Chicago Blackhawks will not take the risk of trading Marian Hossa.

It's not like keeping him in Chicago affords the Hawks the ability to hold a gun to Hossa's head and prevent from retiring if he chooses.
With Marian Hossa under contract, the Chicago Blackhawks at least has control of Marian Hossa's medical files as well as knowledge of any current medical condition.

I guess you figure that they'll try to gussy it up as an LTIR, whereas the team he's hypothetically traded to wouldn't?
The Chicago Blackhawks are not the New England Patriots of the NHL nor should the Chicago Blackhawks resort to any shenanigans.

I think Sharp is essentially guaranteed to be moved in the off-season. I think Crawford could be moved depending on the cap and the return.
Corey Crawford is not getting traded.

Duncan Keith has a NMC in his contract.
