Brown is what we he is at this point, an annual candidate for being bought out.

Way too much dead cap space, for far too long, if he were to get bought out. He's going nowhere quickly.

Didn't think one of the highest paid players in the game would be compared to that group, but that's the level of production we're getting out of him. He'll be lucky to hit the 50-point range.

That line as a whole, is just, a hole. The problem for Sutter is there's not much he can do but play them. Kopitar, Brown, and Gaborik are being paid like top line guys. Should he play Shore instead? Those 3 are what he has to work with. Two of the worst contracts in the league. One can be managed, two is a team killer. At least Kopitar, you figure, isn't a lost cause at this point like the other two.

The grinders have to be dispatched. Just so many forwards on LA who do not have the ability to create offense on their own. Sutter's Stiffs are dragging this team to the bottom

Highs and lows in one night, man. That USA-Canada game was really something. Then this game....well, it was something too.

I contemplated changing "GDT" to "PGT" after the first goal but out of sheer morbid curiosity I did not

Just kind of sad to go from the WJC Championship game, exciting up and down hockey (the defense was awful, not sure what they are teaching these kids) to the Kings dreadful display of hockey. It was like going from 2017 back to the clutch and grab era. The philosophy of the organization needs to change, we know where that starts, their idea of entertaining hockey is dead and gone. Are you not entertained? No, no I'm not.

The team isn't going anywhere as long as they have a $21m line with 8 goals, and only 4 of them at 5v5.

I'm usually just a lurker on the boards but I'm really disappointed with Zatkoff in net and want to vent my frustration. Even before Zats came to LA, I assumed that Budaj would make the jump up as 2nd string behind Quick and Campbell would be 3rd string.

I see that we don't want to pile anything on Zatkoff for the loss and it should be blamed on the team as a whole. However, Zatkoff still needs to play well enough to give the Kings a chance, maybe even provide a little motivation to score - I haven't seen this from him other than the game in Detroit a few weeks ago. Zats has been letting in some really soft goals in this season.

Budaj has been playing like he's still fighting for a permanent spot on the team and it definitely shows. The guy has been amazing in stepping up and giving the Kings a chance to win each game.

Kopitar has been an embarrassment. He is playing like he has already accomplished everything he ever wanted and is a fat cat at this point. Have some pride for god sake Kopi and get act like you care! You're our leader and Captain. At least break a sweat.:shakehead

It's looking to be his worst year ever since at least his USHL days. He's playing on a major league, professional team, that is still comfortably in the top 10 in GA, and he's having the worst year of his career.

Whereas Budaj is looking to have his best ever year, other than last year in Ontario.

This season is so odd.

I'd recommend reading the article Frozen Royalty posted today: LA Kings Are Showing Signs Of Shaken Confidence, Frustration, Tension. I'm going to post in the thread right now.

Red Wings goalie Jared Coreau earned the first shutout of his young career, the Kings failing to score for the fifth time this season.

That’s more than they were shut out all last season.

Ouch.

I want to blame the injury, but he also had just 2 goals in the 15 games prior to the games he missed.

Depending on how the rest of the year goes, he might be looking at 15-ish goals in 2 of the last 3 seasons. That's going to have to be a concern should that happen, injuries or not. In the remaining 43 games, he'll have to score at about his career average just to match his full season career low in goals. To hit his career average this year, he'd have to be a 40 goal scorer for the rest of the season.

If he does hit his average in the games left this year, which would be about 13 more goals in the 43 games, the Kings should be alright the rest of the way, even if the season total looks bad.

Kopitar hasn't even hit 20 points yet and we're already at the midway point of the season. His performance really is the true definition of embarrassment. That extension and the captaincy isn't helping his cause.

Never as bad as you think it is I guess, but man, say this is the start of him going into Brown territory(we didn't know Brown would be this bad until he kept not scoring for years)? They won't recover. Not with this cast. It's already difficult with DB and MG being paid so much. It can't be Brown, and Gaborik, and Kopitar, and trying to find room for Toffoli and Pearson, and Doughty in a few years, and filling out the rest of the roster. With no real end in sight, with everyone signed for at least the next half decade.

Of all the things to go wrong since they won the Cup on Friday the 13th, if Kopitar turns into a 15 goal, 50 point center, in the first year of his big new contract, it would be the icing on the cake. Well I guess if Doughty walked for nothing, that would be the little swirly things on the edge.

I've been as critical of Kopitar as anyone, but to say he doesn't care is bat-**** crazy.

You can just tell Kopitar is laboring by the look on his face. Dude looks ****ing miserable right now. I hope he turns it around, hate seeing him in this state.

If Kopitar turns into Brown 2.0, kiss goodbye to 8 years of Kings hockey. We wont be able to trade him for assets for a rebuild and will be forced to watch a mediocre hockey team try to get into the playoffs every season.

THE END IS NIGH!!!!

I take back all the nice things I've said recently. Not being at a home game for a month was like breaking up with a girl and then missing her a month later because you forgot how much it actually sucked having her around.

"It wasn't that bad!" Yes. Yes it was.
