Dare I say it but i suspect Walker will be the D to go on waivers and make a spot for Clarke to stay up initially for 9 games.

They'll follow it with a comment that he needs time in the AHL to continue to progress his knee back to 100%. This creates a spot and makes it almost impossible for a team to claim him.
I think they should have traded Walker when the writing has long been on the wall in more than 50 different languages.

It's 2 years at $2.65m, and over $6m in cash, for another team to account for. Coming off the injury. For a guy who doesn't light the world on fire to begin with.
He has value to team looking to get a 4-6th dman. He’s young and on a good contract. Nowadays that contract is nothing unusual. If the difference between Clarke playing is Walker. I’d cannon him off.

Walker was a great success story. He’s play more games and made more money than most players at his draft slot ever will. Unfortunately, injuries have derailed the careers of much better players. As much as I like him, if you have to lose him to waivers, you lose him to waivers.
Its more no team is going to pickup a guy on waivers whos coming back from an ACL who his own team say still isnt 100%, hasn't played in the pre-season and has a cap hit starting with a 2. Teams just arent opening up a roster spot for that player or taking on the risk that they do, he goes there and hurts himself again and their stuck with the contract.

The writing was done after he was hurt unfortunately, and he remains so. So Kings have really never had a chance to trade him.

The Kings can still waive Walker and save over $1M in cap space in doing so. It is curious that he hasn't gotten in a single preseason game, which has me wondering if he starts the season on IR, or if he's jettisoned to Ontario.

I mean they should have tested the market if they hadn’t already.

Maybe. It's just a lot to account for if you're looking for a team to dump him off to. No legit player coming back, no money, etc. How many teams still need a 4-6thD on at this point? Plus, we know Blake likes bodies, so Walker might deliberately still be here.

There are a few teams still looking for a RD, even a depth one. Walker would be a tough sell before he starts playing again.

Wouldn't mind starting the season with Björnfot & Spence in the AHL ready for call-ups after all the injuries to the defense last year.

There might be a couple teams looking for that, but are they looking to commit to 2 years, and $6.35m for the depth guy?

Probably not, but Kings don't really need to move Walker right now. Guessing Blake isn't just going to dump a player like Walker after the injuries he's fought through the last few seasons. Seems like Blake is more loyal than that. So the question, can Walker be moved, may not be all that important.

Mikey, Doughty
Edler, Roy
Walker, Durzi
Clarke
AHL
Bjorn, Spence, Moverare

That's fine to start the season. There will be injuries. Can Walker start the season on a conditioning stint in the AHL after his injury?

Absolutely. If anyone on the team was going to be traded, they would've done it at the start of the summer. Doubt Blake was surprised when he woke up one day and saw the team had 10 options on defense. That's what he seems to want.

It’s not really about wanting a player in return. If so a goalie would do. But even moving him off the roster is a net plus because we have better players looking for a spot.

I think we all agree with you, it's just that it's unrealistic to expect another team to take his contract for free without any proof he's back for good after the ACL injury. The flat cap has even non-playoff teams crunched right now.

I guess I just have a hard time understanding that there isn’t a team who thinks that Walker would be fine especially considering the fact he’s 27 and likelihood of him being good to go is high since he was young when he sustained the injury.
