Since it's for $1 million, 1 year, it's a low risk move. I'm okay with that, just as I'm okay with any "low risk" move.

With where the team is now, they sort of need a few low risk moves from free agency. Granted, low risk isn't how contenders are built, but it's a "necessary evil" to give the team a year to assess their direction. They've spent so many seasons "going for it" with big contracts, they need to have a reassessment period.

Besides, most teams usually bury themselves by overspending on free agents. Let the desperate teams sink themselves.

I think of how uppity people got last year saying things like "look at Lee Stempniak" for his production vs. salary and can't fathom why people are upset about this signing and calling it dumpster diving.

I'm just trying to understand one thing, what would you have wanted Blake to have done immediately, and at what expense?

It's not really about what Blake's doing, it's more the snide remarks made about Dean with every move Blake makes that drives me up a wall. Sometimes this fanbase is exactly what people think of LA fans. Fairweather.

No more tied than Dean's were. But Blake can do no wrong, I get it. Every signing is brilliant and magical. This Teddy Purcell is going to be a PPG player and take the Kings to glory.

Who said any signings were magical?

And Dean tied his own hands by handing out awful contracts and gutting the system. He was fired because ownership didn't trust him to fix the mess he created.

Which is fine, but do you have to constantly bring DL up with every ****ing move like an ex-girlfriend? We get it. You hate DL. Just **** about him already.

Who is fairweather on this board?

A good chunk of people have been posting here for over a decade, through some horrendous years.

Who do you guys prefer they sign? Want to see them overspend and tie their hands with another backbreaking contract? I really want to know what most of you prefer. And please, don't come back with a silly notion that this team can trade for a Drouin or Duchene. They don't have a Sergachev to offer up and neither Muzzin nor Martinez have that kind of value.

I mean DL made his bed though.

And already forget how hard it is to stay competitive. DL tried his best to keep the team competitive and it didn't last as long as many hoped, but Blake hasn't proven **** so why are blowing sunshine up his ass all the time when DL actually made this team a winner in the first place?

Oh but you don't care about the people who constantly bring up Luc and Blake before they even made a single move?

And now these same people who wanted Dean to stay on are criticizing Blake and Luc because they can't clean up Dean's mess in one offseason.

BTW, ZiggySD, funny how things come full circle in life. You have known me a long ass time, did you ever think me of all people would be accused of being a Blake homer? LOL

Blake hasn't even started cleaning up any messes given Brown and Gaborik are still on this roster. And he adds an old winger, at cheap granted, for what purpose? To fill a jersey? Because Mike isn't part of any future for this team and he's not good enough anymore to compete for anything, so why is he back? Why not give his roster spot to one of the rookies?

Because the rookies are not very good.

First step to getting back to being a great team is to have cheap young talent that can step in, saw it with all four teams who played in the conference finals. If there is a Kyle Connor or Matt Barzal in the system we probably don't make this signing.

If Cammalleri pulls a Purcell he ends up gone, he probably retires. But he also has a chance to score 20 goals, which none of our youth will probably ever sniff outside of Valardi who is only 17 and not a threat to make the NHL roster.

I agree. As I said in the other page, the Kings need to have a couple low risk periods to reassess their roster. I'm not a fan of Cammalleri, but I am okay with the methodology.

If he plays well, we know his talent is capable of producing in the top 6. If he doesn't, he would get buried in the minors/be a healthy scratch.

And neither is Mike. And you don't know what the rookies can do until you actually play them. Both have an equal shot at putting up 20 goals for the Kings, frankly. My point is what is this team's direction? Are we rebuilding? Are we trying to compete? Which is it? Because being a blackhole team is not a good answer.

What player in the Kings system has as realistic a chance of scoring 20 goals as MC does this season?

All of them because Mike ain't scoring 20 goals. I'll believe it when I see it. He's not the answer to this team's offensive problems though. No more than Teddy Purcell or Devin Setoguchi.

If he stays healthy I'm pretty confident he can score 20. He's always had more talent than both of those guys.

I've lived through the 90's kings and seen the disastrous teams we've had. I'm not there yet when it comes to all hope is lost.

I have no problem with it. UFA class sucked. No assets to trade. Not enough slam dunk Ontario guys ready now.

1 year and $1 million. he can be buried if he flames out.

The bonus will be added to this year if there's space. if not, then like chicago, it will be next year.
