Confirmed with Link: Kings Sign Kopitar (2 Years/ $7m AAV)

As much as I like Kopitar it’s pretty depressing that this is where we’re at a franchise after a rebuild. Still extending players like Kopitars rather than giving the rookies a fair chance. Depressing.

Ridiculous. Look at what Bergeron took from the bruins so they could compete. 7 M for Kopitar is a complete waste of resources once again. Kopitar wanted the cash over winning. Can’t wait til Blake it turfed
Lol

Well, they did get 3-5 years of rookie draft picks, Turcotte, Bjornfoot, Kaliyev, Fagemo, Spence, Byfield, Grans, Chromiak, Clarke, Pinelli, etc, 2019 to 2021....I don't think they are building around Kopitar....
There you went forcing me to agree with you again, stop doing that. 🤣

QB switching back to center is going to be quite the stretch if he continues to play wing the next 2-3 years. Which is now the plan and only option for him on the Kings with Kopi a top center for the next 3 years. QB hasn't played center for a year now. Even when he did played before last year, he was limited to to injuries and Covid time. Expecting him to slide over in a couple years is gonna be very difficult. A guy like Carter could do it back & forth during his Kings time because he already had many development and NHL playing center. The most likely scenario (assuming he stays a King) is he is a winger now...unless some gets injured/etc. Even then, he might not even be the first option to replace an injured guy at Center.

Even if he starts producing, the idea of QB the winger is a lot less valuable than QB the center. Especially since he's not a sniper / true goal scorer....nor is he a physical force PF type.
Well unfortunately Byfield the center isn't working. The only thing keeping it alive is the excuses.

This is utter nonsense.. a completely made up narrative.
its conjecture. Are you saying that youre certain Walker being an alum played no part in his signing? If you read my post, i was making a nuanced point that its natural to lean toward hiring friends and feeling influenced by loyalties such as alumni connections. But if you do it too much, obviously you dont get the best people on board.

They are built around Kopitar and Doughty. The number one center and dman last year, the year before and again going going into this year. They didnt sign Soucy to play with Clarke. They didnt bring Fiala in to play with Byfield. He started out with Kopitar until it didnt work. They didnt bring in Danault to take pressure off Turcotte cause it was his spot and they didnt play him at all. Not one player you mentioned has solidified a role. Maybe Byfield as a winger per Kopitars request.

I choose to believe the actions the team shows, and not what lies are told by members of the staff to podcast hosts.

The moving on from Faber, Durzi and Walker is likely going to result in Clark being in the NHL this season, and not the AHL, where he will likely Buck the Kings trend of heavy AHL usage for all prospects. That is the type of move a team makes to open up a spot if they really believe in the player. And I think all indications are they believe strongly that Clarke is going to be a star, and likely very soon.

Byfield is the opposite, no team is continuing to add expensive outside options at C and re-signing vets if they believed in the guy they used a #2 pick on was going to be an NHL center. At the very least it’s a massive hedge.

Of all those players you listed, the one who has had the highest amount of average ice time in a season is Byfield who was 18th among all skaters. Heck, even when Bjornfot played 70 games, he was 16th in average ice time among all skaters.

So, if you don't think they are building around Kopitar, who are they building around?

Grans is gone. Fagemo has a high risk of being lost to waivers. Chromiak and Pinelli are just names at this point. Turcotte...

This is simply a rough list of names for the most part. I know you're trying to prove they aren't building around Kopitar but what you're doing is reminding me again of how Blake's tank draft picks have mostly sucked.

5M really isn't that much lower than 7M for someone who's 2 years older, less productive, and doing it in a year where the cap is lower.

Are we seriously using metrics to calculate the trajectory of Kopitars future performance at this age? Kane lit up the NHL and the next year he flatlined. It happens to all players when they age. It’s unpredictable but Father Time comes for all. To ignore that Kopitar can flatline any moment is stupidity. There’s a reason why Todd was trying desperately to get Kopitar away from McDavid.

Back then we would argue Kopitars greatness with HF because they’d only look at his point totals. Now he’s scoring more but his body of work isn’t the same. It’s obvious in Kopitars game that he’s fading. It’s normal.
Yup you see it right here on HF boards with the aging dinosaurs takes and comments

You should do a Podcast where you hook staff members up to a lie detector machine so you can prove your assertions.
I honestly have a feeling this is coming.
This is a Terry Murray moment.
Blake needs to make the next move not just on players but on the coach as well.
If Blake dont do it , he should be axed, if Beckerman can't ax those failing under him then that should be where the Ax falls

Sorry I didn't get to finish my thoughts...you (was it you that I originally responded to) said that the Kings should have gotten rid of Doughty Kopitar and get 3-5 years of picks, etc, well, they got 3-5 years of picks....and they aren't building around Kopitar, that makes ZERO sense to say that they did, They brought in Danault, in 20-21 because Turcotte wasn't ready, they didn't have a 2nd C....they brought in Fiala at 25 years old, so...that's building around Kopitar now? So trading for Gavrikov and PLD, that's building around Kopitar? I mean I'm sorry but it sounds like your are throwing shit at wall to see what sticks, and because of Kopitar's new contract, everyone is pissed so you think this might egg them on....

Building around Doughty, with...Andersson, Spence, Clarke, Durzi when he was here, Bjornfoot etc....

Maybe you and I have completely different views on what is building around.....but they have done nothing to suggest they are building around Kopitar, vs building organizational depth. One poster put it out there, they now have one C at every position along a normal career (past prime, beginnning of the end of prime, prime, and pre-prime) tell me again how that is building around Kopitar?

Of all those players you listed, the one who has had the highest amount of average ice time in a season is Byfield who was 18th among all skaters. Heck, even when Bjornfot played 70 games, he was 16th in average ice time among all skaters.

I don't think they are building around one single player, it's not an EDM situation where you can build around McDavid and Draisaitl, or COL where it's McDavid etc....

I thought Grans was still around, no worries, I was just showing that the Kings DID get 3-5 years worth of draft picks, refutes the guy I responded to that they didn't do that...they did...

The argument of if they are good enough or not, that's a separate argument, and I think we are about to find out in the next year or so.....despite everyone wanting the shiny new toy immediately etc, if Byfield doesn't take strides this year, I'm good with calling him whatever, or dealing him to bring someone else in etc....

Pretty sure they are building around doing the opposite of Herby's suggestions.
Not sure if its purely coincidental or just good management.

I bet in a previous life time you were just following orders with how much bootlicking you seem to do lol
I know you don't read my whole comments or all of them, just the ones when I point out your poor takes.
Here is one you missed above,

I only read this part tbh so you’re right for once.

So who are they building around?

Not sure how else to address this, gonna say it a bit louder I DON'T THINK THEY ARE BUILDING AROUND ANY SINGLE PLAYER RIGHT NOW, I DON'T THINK THEY ARE BUILDING AROUND ANYONE....

Again, when you have a Matthews, McDavid, MacKinnon type player, you can do that.....

Tell me...who did Vegas or FLA build around?

This isn't basketball where you can build around 1 player or 2 etc,

I’ll answer this since the bootlickers don’t ever want to have any kind of hard conviction to their statements.

PLD. The biggest contract for a long time. A massive haul. This is going to be PLDs team with hope that somehow Byfield becomes a high caliber player while giving him no oppurtunity to become that player.
