With Toby Rieder being a restricted FA and possibly not resigned and Torrey Mitchell UFA and possibly gone, ...it's not out of the realm JAD can make the Kings next season. Ast Coach Nachbaur loves him and JAD just finished
with 100 pts (playoffs included) He plays 200 feet, has speed, makes plays and can score. It's truly not out of the realm he makes the team. (no one expected Iafallo or Fantenberg to make the team) No matter, he will by the following season. JAD would be a cheaper option than signing an UFA in the 2 million range, that would probably be no better than JAD.

It would be a mistake not to resign Rieder IMO, unless he is not accepting the qualifying offer.

Finally a player that is able to net around 15 goals on the 3rd/4th line....with solid defense and hands of stone.

Rieder is still settling in, it's just going to be somewhat expensive to keep him around and see if he progresses with this team. He's been creating quite a bit even if he doesn't show on the score sheet all the time. It's down to whether the Kings think $2.4M is too steep for what he potentially brings.

I wouldn't be adverse to a 1 year deal while guys coming out of juniors get a year in the A. I think Rieder could be a 30-40 point guy, which for $2.4M isn't bad. It's not a terrible risk to keep him for a year in the grand scheme of things.

Another thing to think about is the upcoming expansion. Do you sign Rieder for 2 years and hope that if Seattle takes him you still have Lewis as the speedy PK winger or vice versa?

I'm in love with JAD as a player, but that being said, he's still really young and he's only turning 19 in September. Plus I don't think there's any rush for JAD to get to the NHL unlike Vilardi. JAD will probably spend another year in the WHL, but after that it'll get complicated because he won't have anything else to prove in juniors at that point. I think also if Yamamoto makes the NHL they would want to see how he does as the sole star in Spokane.

It's extremely unlikely JAD is anywhere near the Kings roster next season other than training camp. He doesn't have the ceiling nor the size of a Vilardi. He'll be in juniors, and that's not a bad thing. You control Rieder, so he'll be resigned. You don't trade for a young fast player that has intangibles and experience and then just let him walk. I agree it's very unlikely Mitchell is back (and that's okay), we need roster spots for Vilardi and Brodzinski, so something has to give.

No way JAD makes the team next season. I know he's had another year of WHL hockey under his belt, but he was not close to ready physically in last year's pre-season game against Anaheim.

Hope he has a great off-season, continues to get stronger and then tears up the WHL.

Only scenario in which JAD sees the NHL next year is if he has a great camp and management gives him a few NHL games at the begining of the season before sending him back down to junior.

If Vilardi makes the team I think it would be good to stagger JAD (Even if he wowed the team). Will he be to old for the WJC? I have also seen to many high scoring juniors fail to be anything more than 4th liners in LA. Shore, Weal, Kozun, maybe Amadio.

JAD is still 18...he only made the 2017 draft by 1 week...if he was born 10 day later, he would possibly go top 10 in this draft. So yes, he can play in the WJC this December. As far as making the Kings, ok, a bit of a longshot. You see how Blake worked in Macdermid, Fantenberg and Iafallo to help with the cap. He's smart to keep signing free agent juniors and collegians...and a Euro in Fantenberg. Getting low salary players that can play, will help them be able to give Drew the money needed for next contract.

As far as Amadio being a possible 4th liner - he does more with the puck than Toffoli or Pearson. Every time he has the puck in the Ozone, he makes a play with it. Smart plays. There's a reason Stevens gives him some PP time - he does good things with the puck. Stevens said it a few times about his puck play. You gotta be impressed that he had the 20 (? something like that) point scoring streak in Ontario earlier this year, playing with the likes of NO ONE. Brodzinski was on Kings during Amadio's streak. Ontario probably has the lowest offensive talented forwards in the AHL. It's very impressive to have a streak like that there. Did you know Amadio had Gretzky / Lemieux / Lindros like numbers whrn he was AAA ?? 4 points a game, or some such. Don't count him out. His last yr in juniors, 50 goals in 68 games and then 12 goals in 11 playoff games. If he ends up going to another team, don;t be surprised if he becomes a 20 goal, 50 point center...or better. Watch him in the ozone. Compare guys like Toffoli and Pearson - sure, they are wingers, but don;t see them make plays like Amadio and he gets under 10 mins a game. SEE his crazy stats, prior to Major Junior. Another thing when he was scoring 4 pts a game, he had more assists than goals. Remember, 43 goal William Karlsson on Blue Jackets? Couldn't score 10 goals or 20 pts in 2 full, 80 game seasons there. CLICK::: Michael Amadio

I like Amadio but on the Kings he will be lucky to be a 3rd line center. Especially if Vilardi can contribute (no guarantee either) next season. But this is my point, big numbers don’t always translate. Throwing out big names that play nothing like Amadio doesn’t do it for me either. Dowd had nice hands for awhile too. I hope Amadio becomes something. He can’t even stay in the line up regularly as of now. Karlsson is not the norm. More players bust than pull off what he has done this year.

The thing Amadio has going for him imo is he's shown massive improvement at every level before this one as well. Think of how slow he started in the AHL before going on an absolute friggin tear.

It’s strange but he reminds me a bit of Jason Allison. With Kopi and Carts ahead of him and getting the better wingers I just don’t know where Amadio fits. I am intrigued to see if Vilardi is slotted for center or wing.

Iaffalo Amadio Vilardi

Amadio is a C, he's just so smart and smooth. It's ok if he learns the craft at 4C and moves up once in a while. I'd rather him work on the same learning curve he has at every level instead of getting thrown into the fire because that will spoil his offensive development imo. We've seen him get a little braver making plays as the season goes on and I'd love to see him continue to build that confidence. Maybe taking shifts and/or games up the lines a bit to learn from Carter, Kopitar wouldn't be too bad but I don't see a problem with him being 3C/4C for now.

Well, this time last year, everyone was down on (just about everyone) Kempe and look what he's done. I think it was Racoon Jesus that stated "I forget he's only 20" and it's true. (now 21)
Not everyone is Holy Smokes (as DL used to say) as they go pro in the AHL or the ones who make the NHL. Kempe had some consistency issues and growing pains. I just love what I've seen
in him this year. Trying to go end to end and win a game in the last 30 seconds. That sick move in the shootout. Doing admirable job in every area. Decent numbers, considrring
almost ZERO PP time. I believe his ES numbers are identical to Toffoli's and Pearson's ES numbers. Last I checked all 3 of those player's ES points were within 3 of the other.
I don't mean to harp on those 2, but am expecting a little more from them. I know Pearson is great in
front of the net and Toffoli has reasonably decent games. Just expect a bit more. So give Amadio time. 35 pts in 31 games in Ontario this year, playing with Hensick , Mersch and Auger?
I bet the Pearons, Toffoli's, Iafallo's Kempe's and even Brown would have a hard time eclipsing 35 pts in 31 games in Ontario. I thnk the Kings say Vilardi is center and will not play wing.
I say put Carter on his wing. Carter does fine on wing or ctr. Amadio could be 3rd or 4th center. He's not a wing. I started playing closer attention to his game, when he started getting PP
time and was a bit surprised by that and then read Steven's quote about Amadio's puck play. I started seeing what they see. Have a feeling some of these players could be packaged someday,
but hope they don't prematurely give up on someone like Amadio or Ladue. Upside with both.
Look at Spencer Watson and Austin Wagner this year there....AHL is a big step. Brodzinski is on the cusp and hopefully makes it next year.

Not trying to be argumentative today, I know they have stated that LaDue, Brodzinski, and Amadio are in their plans going forward. I just don’t see availabile slots for them. Maybe it’s a slow cook. Maybe others will be moved out. LaDue is highly sheltered which makes me think there isn’t a lot of confidence in his D game. Brodzinski’s spot seems to be taken by Rieder if he is retained.

4/5 recap:

Owen Sound won 4-1, Phillips was scoreless and even, Villalta stopped 34/37 in taking the loss. (Owen Sound lead 1-0)

4/6 games:

Owen Sound (Phillips) @ SSM (Villalta)
Kingston (Vilardi) @ Barrie
Sarnia (Rymsha) @ Kitchener
Swift Current @ Moose Jaw (Clague)
Tri-City @ Victoria (Reddekopp)
Portland (Kehler) @ Everett

Mitchell is gone as a UFA. Rieder will sign a new multi year deal with us. Andreoff on the chopping block again. There is room for Brodzinski and Vilardi.
