With everybody now off preparing for the WJC, we will have fewer guys in Juniors to watch the next few weeks.
That said, Cole Kehler stopped 30/32 shots last night in a win over Spokane.

did you guys do any top 20 kings prospect lists this summer? curious as to how your lists would look today.
obviously kempe graduated but clague has been excellent and a bunch of other intriguing guys. how would
you rank a top 10? anyone off the radar that made a big push this fall?

I'll take a stab at this later tonight maybe, but I think most of us will agree on the top 5-10.

I don't recall that we did, but after our big summer and some players graduating to the NHL things have shifted a lot.
Vilardi
Amadio
Clague
Anderson-Dolan
Wagner
Petersen
LaDue
Gravel
Campbell
Mersch

This isn't in any particular order.

And then a bunch of other guys. We had guys like Auger and Crescenzi who made their debuts this season, but aren't likely to stick with the team in the long run. I mean the obvious answer to the off the radar was Iafallo. Very few if any of us had heard of him, much less thought he'd make the team out of camp, much less be getting first line minutes next to Kopitar. But we literally just signed him in the offseason so I'm not sure that necessarily counts. If you're talking about someone who we've had in the system for a while making a push, I'd say Austin Wagner all last season. Another answer would probably be Kurtis MacDermid. Those that have seen him in the AHL knew what he was all about with his physicality and toughness, but didn't know if he could do it at the NHL level. And so far he's exceeding expectations.

Quick stab at a top 10:

1. Gabriel Vilardi
2. Kale Clague
3. Mike Amadio
4. Cal Petersen
5. Matt Luff
6. Austin Wagner
7. Paul LaDue
8. Jonny Brodzinski (he's right on the cusp of being considered graduated)
9. Michael Anderson
10. Jack Campbell

Pretty good list. I'd bump Luff out. I'd replace him with Anderson-Dolan.

Good list. I guess if you had to say who was more on the cusp of playing, LaDue, Brodzinski and Campbell would be much higher, Luff, Wagner and Anderson at the bottom of those 10 listed. Of course Gravel is in the mix, and fading but still producing is Michael Mersch. Amadio is looking like late last season when he was playing very well since Moulson joined his #1 line, but I'd like to see he tighten up his D a bit. Been a bit loose lately from what I am used to with him, and he is still struggling in the face-off circle.

My Top 10:

1. Gabriel Vilardi
2. Kale Clague
3. Paul LaDue (last year eligible IMO)
4. Mike Amadio
5. Cal Petersen
6. Jaret Anderson-Dolan
7. Austin Wagner
8. Matt Luff
9. Michael Anderson
10. Matt Villalta

HM: Jacob Moverare

IMO Graduated: Kempe (NHL), Brodzinski (NHL), Gravel (age), Campbell (age), Mersch (age), Iafallo (?)

And then the rare status of Iafallo? Is he still a prospect or did he Graduate before being a prospect?

Vilardi is evidently still not ready to play. Not playing tonight.

The junior level often sees similar trades with many pieces flung around because keep in mind they don't often have these players for more than a couple of years, gotta fast track rebuilds because they dont' exactly last for a long time!

Interesting article. Apparently Rychel made the trade, because he thinks Vilardi will be in the NHL next season.

Updated: GM Rychel says deal ‘Had to be done’ as Spitfires send Vilardi and Day to Kingston for Morgan and picks

“It’s a big trade,” Rychel said. “Four seconds is significant, no matter what years.”

A Kingston native, Vilardi has been out all season with a back injury, but has been cleared to play. He was the second pick overall in the 2015 OHL Draft, an all-star forward at last year’s Memorial Cup while going on to be a first-round pick by the Los Angeles Kings in June. Vilardi must play another year in the OHL next season unless he can crack the Kings’ lineup.

“I’m 99 per cent sure he’s an NHL player next year,” Rychel said. “That’s what made this deal possible.

“Obviously, if he’s back next year, we never move him. There are no guarantees in life, but we’ve got some pretty good friends in L.A. and, with his development, I think he’ll be an NHLer next year.”

If he does return to the OHL, Windsor will also get Kingston’s second-round pick in 2027 and 2028.

That's...an interesting thought from Rychel. Guy has missed the better part of a year of development. Not sure I can agree.

Kingston has 32 regular season games left and may have an opportunity for a decent postseason run with the class of the league (SSM, featuring Matt Villalta) in the other conference. Would be nice for Vilardi to get to play 45-50 games despite missing 3+ months.

I think Rychel's statement has more to do with all his discussion with the Kings staff (which is inferred in the article) than anything else. He's basically reiterating what the Kings believe. You're gonna have Amadio and Vilardi fighting for roster spots up the middle next year, a good problem to have.

I’ll be shocked if Vilardi makes the team next year. That much time off, competing with Amadio. He’ll have to be outstanding imho to get that spot.
