Las Vegas
The key here is the contracts past this season. Quick is $5.8m next year and Moore is $1.8m ish. Does this weigh off against Kassian for 2 more at$3.75. All of the players are paid more than they are worth and all are declining. If you are LA you would rather have the pick and the cap space given the top end cost of your last generation stars like Doughty and Kopitar. you still need to get a goalie but this years draft is strong. Would LA get more parting out those pieces is one option. The thing to remember is that the Kings could look at it as giving Quick one more cup run as a thank you for good service.

the oilers need to add one of Lavoi, Savoi or Samorukov to even this out. La can keep Moore as well if that makes it easier to swallow.
The key here is the Kings are actually trying to make the playoffs.. and that’s why it isn’t plausible

It's almost as if the kings weren't a rebuilding team. You put anybody in net with the kings defense the last 3 years and they'd look bad
Yet guys like Kuemper can have good seasons on very crappy teams. Maybe the team was so crappy cause they couldn’t buy a save

This thread is likely just going to rot as LA is still in the hunt. I like options for deals for multiple pieces like this one if we are moving our first and I think Holland mentioned something to that effect in one of his pressers. I would look to the NYI and Varlamov if you are taking on an extra year though.

Edmonton Oilers
Jonathan Quick
Trevor Moore
Alexander Edler (25% retained)

Los Angeles Kings
Zack Kassian
Mikko Koskinen
Kyle Turris
Oilers' first-round draft pick of 2022
Ok. Where does Holland sign? I do that in a heartbeat. :)

This is definitely not as good as people think for Edmonton, it doesn't work for anyone involved
It works for me. I would give Quick a shot on the oilers. Might rejuvenate his career knowing he gets another chance at winning the cup.

Not at all.

- We go from Koskinen (1 year x 4.5 million) to Quick (2 years x 5.8 million), a clear downgrade in terms of their salaries. I get that Quick has had a good start to the year, but I'd be very cautious acquiring him given Quick's performance the past 3 years.

- We go from Kassian (3 years x 3.2 million) to Edler (1 year x 3.5 million), which I'm completely fine with.

- We go from Turris (1 year x 1.65 million) to Moore (2 years x 1.875 million), another downgrade in terms of their cap hits.

We take on almost 2 million this year, and 4.5 for the 2nd year.

And then we're adding a first round pick for that minor roster upgrade? It's a bad deal for the Kings, but it doesn't make sense for the Oilers either.
Kassian off the books and Edler off the books next season. Seems like double upgrade to me. Moore and Turris are both equally useless so that is a wash. Quick is certainly not done as a goalie and I have time for any of Price, Quick, Fluery or Rask in goal anyway of the week.

Why does experyone pretend that Kassian had negative value. He is frustrating because he is streaky but he has produced this year and still brings a lot to the game.

Go ahead and let everyone know his true value. Cap of 3.2 for two years following this season, great production for that cap hit lulz. I wondered why gms weren't lining up for this asset that is Kassian but your probably right he's just so streaky gms have a hard time assessing as well.

I don't think Holland had tried to trade Kassian. The fans want him gone but I don't think the GM is in a rush. I don't think Kassian is worth the moon bu any means, but I also think he isn't valueless. I don't think he is this garbage asset with negative value that HFers seems to think.

I’m pretty sure the Bruins, Penguins and Rangers we’re all rumoured to be interested in him this offseason.

Because teams that are rebuilding/retooling just want the draft pick, they don't care about the return on veteran players.
hahaha , pretty sure everyone cares about the return on vetern players unless they are of the useless variety that the OP is trying to peddle from the oil

lol okay .. a wee over valued there

Agreed it's a poor offer .. but not that poor

funny how that works, huh? it's garbage for the Kings, granted, but then the Oilers have to add half their top prospects to make it fair, and it becomes ridiculous the other way !!

The Oilers need some REAL support scoring and Lewis isn't it, though Quick would be a hell of an add !!
