Kings Lose 2-3 to Ducks in OT; Brown Lets Perry Live

Looks like I missed out on the fun here!

First off, throwing a drink is never acceptable: especially with a child involved even if the drink is thrown at a moderator and a moderator-in-training.

That being said, I love if the Ducks fans are finally closing up the country club that has been Honda Center. Game 7 last year in their building was the largest indictment of how pathetic a fan base they truly have. Season seat holders selling on StubHub instead of going to the game to cheer their team. The majority of those buying on StubHub being Kings fans as Ducks fans are not only selling their tickets but will surely not spend $130 to sit in the upper bowl. Then the Kings smash them and us Kings fans are allowed to simply bask and enjoy in the greatness while I never heard even one frustrated "Sit Down!" even when celebrating Goal #5.

It was embarrassing and the absolute zenith of Duck fan apathy: a performance from the fans that was somehow worse than the performance from the "home" team on the ice.

So the natives are finally getting "tough"? Fantastic. That will make it so much more fun when I go there now. Can't wait to witness the transformation if the two teams meet in the playoffs.

There's been a growing annoyance amongst hardcore Ducks fans about how "perceivably" passive and complacent the majority of our fan base is. For those of us who try to start chants and be active fans at the games, nothing is more infuriating than hearing the opposing team's chant drown out ours.

The manifested exasperation on our board is more a vocalization that perhaps the Honda Center should try to stymie opposing team support (akin to what Nashville is doing with Blues' fans) than a slight to your fans.

Every fan base is going to have its share of bad apples. Unfortunately, it's the squeakiest wheel that gets the grease.

Welcome to apathetic OC.

I live in Brea, apathy of all apathy. Why do you think we lost the Rams? Why do you think no one gives a **** about the Angels if they are not contending? Same old, same old.

Apathy.

Exactly

Anyone who would throw **** or fight people because of sports is a clown.

Standing up to applaud when the Kings score is the most excited I ever get at games. Does it really matter how loud or passionate the fans are? The Panthers are making a playoff push while the Leafs are the worst team in the league, so no, it doesn't matter. Players are not significantly affected by cheering fans; they've all played peewee and bantam AAA at one point where it's only family members watching. Every fan should enjoy the game the way he or she wants to, whether that means screaming at the top of your lungs at every play or being extremely indifferent.

You're a dick if you no longer want to be a fan because of your team losing, but it's really not that big of a deal. Wanting opposing fans to leave or being mean to them, that's totally unacceptable.

I don't blame OC fans for losing The Rams for several reasons

1) Georgia was a **** and she drowned her husband.
2) I worked for Anaheim at the time. Ironically in "Parks and Rec" which is the department that the stadium fell under. There were a few suits that believed Georgia was bluffing and that the team would never leave. I was told by someone I trust very closely that in these meetings Georgia was told that they though she was bluffing.
3) For the apathy claims that SoCal gets, the current St Louis Rams have worse attendance over the last 5 years with a better winning percentage than the LA Rams did in their final years.
4) Georgia was a **** and she drowned her husband.

Jeff just keeps getting cooler and cooler. Pat yourself on the back my man

So a couple of Ducks posters on their board has been reading this thread and think it's funny that BD's 2 year old had a beer thrown at it.
Just like I keep saying, the Ducks fan base has the same percentage of idiots as ours, they are just infantesimal in comparison.

last night I talked to my GF about the game and she agrees with us, at one point she was embarrassed to call herself a duck fan.she even told me that she wrote ducks PR and email about the embarrassing tactics they used. Not sure what she wrote exactly but all I know is because of those antics I get to take her to more Kings games at staples.

I wonder what their reaction would be if a Kings fan threw a beer at their toddler. I'm sure they wouldn't be laughing then. What ****ing ********. It's pathetic for any fan base to act like that.

If you don't want opposing fans in your arena, maybe you should actually show up to the game

I have been to the Honda Center and Staples during Kings-Ducks games, and both environments are bad for the visiting fans. During the last Kings-Ducks game in Staples, I saw a Kings fan throw punches at a Ducks couple. The Ducks couple dumped beer on the guys neck, but he should have controlled himself and not thrown punches and also knocked down the lady in the seat next to him (who was a Kings fan) during the process. The whole row got cleared out by the red coats.

I don't have an interest in talking about it much more, but there's too many levels of things going on that are getting wrapped up as one concern.

On one level, you have game entertainment behavior. Some people think it wasn't too much, that's fine. I'll agree to disagree there because frankly it got cringe-worthy how hard they were trying to ridicule LA guests there. That alone isn't going to keep people from going, it's just going to rile them up.

On another, you have staff behavior. Their security/staff were completely disinterested in what was going on and turned a blind eye. THATS my major beef. Stupid **** happens at Staples as it does elsewhere, but I have yet to ever see security not react quickly there, never mind ignore an event.

On another, you have fan behavior. People can be dumb, that I've come to accept, and it's easy to separate this from the organization itself as well as from the good fans, but tacitly endorsing horrible behavior is pretty awful. I can handle ribbing and often it turns into good conversation, no big deal. But if an unprovoked beer comes my way, and the staff does nothing about it, yeah, that's a good way to have fights happen. And of course, if I were to do that, it would be back to "Kings fans are thugs!"

My point in all this was just the hypocrisy. Applaud the 'hostile environment' all you want, and I can deal with it personally, just leave the kids out of it, have your ****ing staff handle business appropriately, and acknowledge that your fans can be huge bags of **** too. That's all. To vomit all over the internet how bad kings fans are at staples and then to chest thump about how experiences at honda are worse is asinine.

I agree with (1) and (4).

Thanks for the insight on (2) and (3). Figures. The "suits" never learn. Apparently, Anaheim government is even stupider than Los Angeles government. At least Anaheim government had the experience of the Coliseum Commission losing the Rams as historical perspective. They made the same mistake, so they are more Pejorative Slured.

I sure hope we get the Rams back and soon. I want my football team back.

Surprisingly, the worst thing I've ever witnessed in terms of fan hostility occurred with some drunk (surprise) obnoxious Avs fans. I just recall that the Kings were winning pretty decisively, so these drunk turds decide to leave early, but before doing so, he chugged a pretty full cup of beer at Kings fans as he exited his row. Big mistake. A bunch of people from that section chased them to the concession area and beat the crap out of them. Those guys definitely had it coming and deserved to get their ***** kicked for doing that.

That's really the only time I've seen something get out of hand, and it was not provoked by any Kings fans. I've been to plenty of games where there's a large presence of fans from the visiting team, happens with the Rangers, Flyers, Habs, Hawks, Red Wings, Canucks, etc., and as annoying as some of them can be with their chants, I've never encountered any jerks who were looking for trouble. It was just that one isolated incident that I can personally report, and I've been attending Kings games since the Great Western Forum days.

I actually did get to witness a Steve McKenna goal, live and in person. It was like seeing Halley's Comet.

I don't believe you.

Me too. It broke my old man's heart when they moved. :(

The fact that Ducks fans even need to establish a discourse amongst themselves about the need or lack of a "hostile environment" at Honda tells you everything you need to know right there. Hostile environments aren't "created." ****ing Philly never sat down and said "alright guys time to get MEAN."

It's either in the culture of your fanbase or it isn't. Actively encouraging ****** behavior as an organization is a good way to get yourself ****ing sued. What a bunch of yahoos down there.
