This “Kings must avoid the Oilers” narrative is really bizarre, as if they would’ve fared better against any of the other teams in the West. Up until last year, the Oilers themselves weren’t even a problem for the actual contenders. Kings fans know we would’ve gotten caved in against the Stars or Avalanche or Knights had that been the matchup the past couple years.

I agree. It's not that the Oilers are an especially bad matchup for LA. They're just better than us. Simple as that.

Kings likely would've lost 3 straight series against any upper echelon teams in the West.

Isn't this a pretty typical problem when multiple cup winning 1c, 1d, and 1g players age out? LA is pretty competitive compared to their 2010s cup winning peers. Their one shot at growing a 1c was finding a young, on-the-outs project and that guy totally shit the bed. Maybe they can try another. Anyway, I kind of admire teams that don't pack it in for a decade and collect lotto tickets.

Yeah well going through decades with no chance at getting to the conference final is something no longtime Kings fan wants to go through again.

The Kings would have more than likely throttled the Canucks last year.

Kings hockey is pretty well suited to beating that team, but that’s a moot point.

The actual contenders like who? The team that actually won the cup.
