Byfield, Fiala, Spence, and Clarke need to show consistency. Burroughs needs to never see NHL ice again. Playoffs are a different style of game, and Kempe is probably the only guy on the team that I know with absolute certainty has a warrior spirit and a next level top gear.

They pass the eye test, shaky goaltending may be the only leak but the goalies can play.

I don’t see them going away, and it with all their depth it makes sense seeing them finally perform

The Kings have always been a very good regular season team, this isn't anything new. They're like the Leafs of the west.
Like a lot of other playoff regulars which is pretty much the entire top 8 in the west, it's all about the playoffs because making the playoffs is a formality for most of these teams.

The issue will still be Kopitar running out of gas by Game 3 of the first round. Doughty could be fresh, or could be rusty.

The additions of Foegle, Jeannot and Edmundson have made them much better in the trenches for sure. Previous Kings teams would shrink when the pressure grows, that is less likely now.

Byfield and Spence are really warming up, Clarke and Turcotte specialize in transition, and the 4th line is huge now.

I don't see a long run with the age at #1c, #1d and #1g, but they are a much better fit to take on Edmonton.

You just hope that the awful preferential treatment from the refs that the Oilers get at home doesn't continue to tarnish the matchup.

There’s nothing really wrong with him. He’s been good overall and he’s pretty much on an island in terms of ability. He’s easily the most talented forward the Kings have but things are beginning to click for the team again so I wouldn’t worry about it

Does Jim Hiller still use the 1-3-1? If he does then I don't expect much to change in the playoffs. The Oilers have figured out how to break through it with ease, and one forechecker doesn't leave room for a Kings counterattack. They're incredibly solid and skilled, this year's round 1 will be determined by which structure they employ, as well as how their PK holds up. The Oilers are 45% on the PP vs the Kings in the playoffs the last 3 years combined.

He has a net negative on-ice impact 5 on 5 and is a focal point of one of the league’s worst power plays this year. He already got himself benched/scratched multiple times earlier in the year and hasn’t had much improvement in either the eye test or scoresheet since then. He just doesn’t get it. Although, Doughty hasn’t been here to call him out publicly like he did last year. Maybe his return is what Fiala needs to get his head out of his ass.

They’re a good team, but it’s hard to win the cup without a true game breaker, especially when you’re not super strong in goal. It means you typically have to outplay the other team in all your wins. Will be interesting if they can avoid Edmonton in the first round though. It might be easier to go on a run if they don’t have the last 3 years hanging over their head at the start.

Even halfway through the season, it is too hard to tell what we have. Kopitar has not had his yearly cold streak,Fiala how’s not had his end of year hot streak, Byfield has just discovered his confidence, coaching staff neutered Clarke for averaging appoint a game in the first dozen games but not playing defense as well as he could, and Drew hasn’t even laced up the skates yet.

Turcotte, Foegele and Edmundson have been pleasant surprises. We have a rookie playing fourth line center that wasn’t expected up for another year and an old guy on the IR that you know the Kings will stuff into as many games as they can when he gets back.

We have been hit by injuries to our starting goalie, top defenseman, as well as lost role players like Danault, Moore and Lewis.

We have a young guy in Thomas that forgot to do push-ups this summer and is not allowed to play, as well as an enigma in Kaliyev that no one seems to know what is happening with.

Coaches changed the style of play, and our backup goaltender looks really good for two games and then let’s in eight goals the next.

Will be interesting to see what this team looks like when everyone is back and slotted right
