Rumor: Kings inquire about Pavelec

Even if the Jets retained, Pavelec at 50% is still backup-level goaltending for too much money. Makes no sense for LA to take on cap for what is, at best, a small upgrade.

they'd be better with Ramo or hell one of Dallas' goalies. Pavelec is a backup at best, probably about as good as Zatkoff if not worse. Bernier would also be a better option, but then again, it would be much easier for the Kings to sign Karri Ramo.

Holland wont retain enough to send him to LA maybe about $1 million at the most. Dout that would get it done.

Why wouldn't it? At under 5 million Howard would be a steal. We all joke about him but Jimmy is still at least a league average starter and by far the best available option along side Fleury for a in season goalie acquisition for a long stretch.

Problem is that the kings have no cap space nor do we. Holland so completely butchered the cap this year we can't make any move where we bring any salary back.

Pavelec at 50 for a mid round pick and cap dump like scuderi ?

Scuderi isn't really a cap dump. He's only costing the Kings 175k being in Ontario.

The Kings would be looking to get rid of

Brown $5,875,000 until 2022
Gaborik $4,875,000 until 2021
King $1,950,000 FA next season
Clifford $1,600,000 until 2020
Greene $2,500,000 until 2017

Pav at 50% is 1.95 as well as King being at 1.95.. this makes sense money wise but the Jets really don't need a winger.

This is what I figured. Jets would save cap space and real dollars, and would be able to give Comrie all the minutes he needs with the Moose. Don't know if it interests the Kings, though.

We're not desperate enough to be rid of Pavelec to take on any of the Kings cap dumps mentioned (eg. King, Greene).

How about Jonas Enroth? He had great stats with Kings last season. Cheap salary of $750K. Take center Peter Holland too and send the Leafs a 2nd.
Garret Sparks can provide decent backup duties for the Leafs.
Leafs could take on Pavelec's contract along with Trouba and send the Jets 24 year old left shooting Dman Martin Marincin, Winnipegger Brendan Leipsic and 2 Second round 2017 Draft picks.
Lou would love to help out two teams!:)

I make this trade just to make sure Pavelec doesn't get called up. If the kings throw a pick in, it's gravy

I agree with this. It would be disappointing in a sense to ship him out and then have either Helly or Hutch suffer a long term injury but it also blows that being the bigger name Pavs will take the lions share of the starts away from Comrie in the AHL. Its a lose/lose situation, we have the cap space lets just retain whatever it takes and ship for picks

bernstein is the mayors wingman and drinking buddy. that's his "source" ... the mayors "source" is spam texting/tweeting direct messages to random kings hockey op members vague questions off the record and coming to a conclusion to "report it". if you ever have a chance to... ask daryll evans his thoughts on john hoven lol he might buy you a beer.

And Budaj is backup as promised. What's the problem?

Budaj was sent to the AHL, so he was #3. He was only recalled now that Quick got hurt.

But tsanuri already explained it:

They brought in Zatkoff for one reason the expansion draft.
They had to have a goalie signed after next year to leave exposed.
And they couldn't send him to Ontario like they did Budaj for risk of losing him and then they wouldn't have a goalie they could expose at the draft.

Thanks.

Maybe if Holland retained $2 million on Howard and we did a deal for Greene at $2.5 million for 2 more years that might not be a bad deal for both teams could help each other out there. Howard at $3.3 million might be enough to entice Lombardi here.

I don't know that Pavelec would be taking the lions share of starts from Comrie, it's more the idea that he's probably not a happy camper to begin with, and may be even more of malcontent if they have him rotting on the bench.

Yeah and Quick is supposedly going to be out 3-4 months more then likely by that time the Kings will be out of the playoff picture at least Howard would give them a fighting chance more so then Pavelec would that's for sure.

 3 more years? No. This was going to be a retool development year for the Kings anyways. Now they'll just get a better pick.
