Not at this stage, though. Signing/trading for a big name basically means the rebuild is over because you need to win the justify the acquisition. The Habs are not there yet, maybe next year if things go real well.

I really don’t think so. I mean you’re right in most cases. Hughes can make that clear that this would be another step in the right direction. It would give the kids something to gawk at and learn from player ___ and show that the organization wants to move forward and give the kids more confidence and an actual game breaker to play with which could create more growth

Adding that gamebreaking talent also means drafting outside of the top 10, so even if Hughes says rebuild is ongoing, the team won't lose on purpose. I'm really not against adding that type of talent, just not this year.

Meh I've been a fan for 32 years and probably 28 ish of those the team has been trash so yes I suppose I'm finally getting a little impatient
It's been hard ever since Corey panicked and fired Savard and Demers. This is when the downfall began.

We never draft well in the top 10 lol. I see you but I’m just saying that signing a very good player is like drafting a top 10 draft pick

I mean, it's real early to say what this group can draft like. It looked bleak at a time, but Slaf is looking more and more like he was the right pick and we can't comment on Reinbacher yet.
If they wait for the offseason, they can draft top10 AND add a good player. Not saying you think the Habs should acquire said player right now but the timing ain't right for now.

Our scouting professionals are smart if they did not want to poney up assets for dubois, the red flag would be if they acquired him with where we are now in the rebuild
its not like dubois is a ppg guy either , or else for sure you try to get him. If he was better than he is id have no problem with us giving up nice assets for him

Corey was a donkey for sure. The drop off from Serge Savard to Rejean Houle was more than a drop off............................then Gainey restores things, to a degree, and Bergevin rips er down................
The years have not been kind.......................and now the hockey gods find it to injure our players left and right because we beat the Leafs in Da Playoff!!

What re you talking about? The we is HuGo and they have been here for 2 drafts. No way to know yet if they drafted well.

The 2 worse management decisions were Therrien’s second coming (which upset me the most) and hiring Réjean Houle which is objectively the worst decision ever.

Dubois is a 60 point forward being payed like he’s something more. Us giving him $9 million would’ve been a travesty. Thank god we didn’t take the bait.

I’m saying I can’t think of good top 10 picks in the last 15 years. Maybe 1? I wasn’t talking about Hughes I’m talking about the history of our pathetic drafting. Of course we don’t know about Hughes yet

Alex Galchenyuk is still great relative to his peers in that draft.
You can argue Kotkaniemi but he's still on pace for 60ish points as a center.
And that concludes our top 10 picks except Slaf and Reinbacher.

I was talking about the last 15 years and Galchenyuk was a total bust (arguably as he has moments.) Weak draft though for sure! Kk has been okay but not so much when he was with Montreal. It’s been rough regardless
His warts are showing this year as the team is not nearly as formidable as it once was. He is one of the worst in the +- on a very offensive minded team. Not a top 2 defender but still a good pick. Sure Montreal lost that trade but they were both young and you just never know how things will turn out.

Good top 4 guy, the contract right now is meh but he was part of a core that won alot. Like I said the contract now kinda sucks but there was alot of years that tampa extracted from him before he got his 8.5 million. I agree with your overall assessment of him though. He's no hedman
