He won’t come back next season, team needs major changes starting with the GM

12 years of Chevy and we’re battling a 2nd year expansion team for a wild card P.O. spot

LAK appear to be a better team than the Jets (even if the Jets had put in a better effort). How is that possible? They were finished, toasted, having to wait for the expiration of the Doughty and Kopitar and Quick boat anchor contracts before they could really get the rebuild under way just about 3 years ago.

And to think, some of this board thought Winnipeg could sustain interests unlike Atlanta with average or bad teams. Bad teams rarely sell except in certain markets regardless of the sport. And it’s really unfortunate right now. Team has to have a direction to get people back interested.

Atlanta was a victim of bad ownership - twice. I think everyone knows that.
With exactly the result you would expect. Jets will suffer the same fate if they don't make changes.

The Jets have taken the enjoyment of hockey right out of me.

I worked during the game yesterday. Most other seasons (and earlier this year) I would avoid the score and watch it fresh on the PVR when I got home. I figured, “why bother” yesterday — they’re not gonna win. Low and behold, I come here after the game and see we lost.

I made a comment here last night about how I couldn’t wait for summer to start. It’s true. I’m tired of the winter wonderland and want some nice weather for bike rides, taking my Corvette out for a drive, and ice cream on the beach … but I’m also just ready for the Jets season to end. We very well might make the playoffs but we’ve been playing SO badly lately that it’s hard for me to get excited for that.

The Bombers fell on their faces in the Grey Cup and pissed away the great season they had. BUT — they give me hope. Different leagues, different sports, different circumstances, but I am a million times more excited for the Blue and Gold to get rolling than I am to see the rest of this NHL season play out, and I generally prefer hockey to football. But the Bombers, man, I can’t wait to see them line up Kenny Lawler, Dalton Schoen, Nic Demski, Rasheed Bailey, Drew Wolitarsky with Brady Oliveira in the backfield and Zach Collaros slinging passes and dare other teams to stop them. It’s gonna be a fun season.

Anyway, back to hockey. I love coming here to read the takes on this board but I’m just so apathetic towards the Jets right now. I cannot understand why, in the thick of a playoff battle, the Jets are so inconsistent (at best) at giving a full effort. You have a guy like Scheifele, who was drafted as a hockey nerd who prided himself on improving his game … and he’s just floating out there. Again. For another season. I always envisioned him playing his entire career here, but I think he needs to go.

This is the third coach these guys have cratered under. It’s time to move on from the core this summer, IMO.

Call me a fair weather fan, call me a pessimist, call me apathetic, whatever you want, I’m just not enjoying the Jets like I used to and I’m ready for a change.
I call you a realist. Amen on the Bombers! That’s a real team.

They made some trades (Fiala, Arvidsson) and signed Danault, plus the demise of Doughty and Kopitar was premature, apparently. They also drafted 2nd overall for Byfield who's in and out of the top line right now

it's funny because everyone in our top 6 needs to do more, but people only want to call out the people they hate
I see pld playing great again
Nino is hitting and making a difference
Nam is always a firecracker and getting to pucks
Ehelers is a point per game lately and always playing hard
Wheeler just doesn’t look like he has any energy left to walk home let alone shoot a puck or pass through a seam anymore

And then there’s sheif . Complete lack of effort

There’s different reasons for each player and at least 5 out of 6 are trying

this is just a load of bullshit... pld has had 2 good games in a row after being mia for a shit ton before his injuries... I mean good start but it's 2 good games, connor has had 1 tap in goal after 14 with out scoring... ehlers has picked up points which is good but has often turned the puck over immediately after entering the zone.. nino has been good but has cooled off a bit and has made some bad plays with the puck.. it's far more then just scheif playing bad but everyone just lays the blame on him when it's everyone in the top 6 needing to give more

They spent big $$ on a coach... mclellan is one of the best (regular season anyway...)

Would be interesting to see where playoff teams rank by coaching success/experience

Maybe bowness and maurice are just average coaches...

Never change NHL, never change. Just guaranteed this will happen again, until they finally take player safety seriously and cost players some serious money.
Not holding my breath however.

Scheifele is the best player on this roster easily.
When your best player hasn’t been your best player for an extended period of time and it appears to be effort related then you must send a message.
It’s been a pattern with Mark for a few seasons now and it’s a bit disappointing considering the first half of the season he had.
If you are considered to be a leader you are held to a higher standard.( Or should be )

well, jmo/helle are actually our best players.. according to hfboards ehlers was our best forward... did that change now since were playing bad? we need more out of everyone... not just one player... even if scheifele was playing good if the rest still didn't we still wouldn't be playing well

Yep, looking forward to seeing a team that has some pride, gives a shit about competing and entertaining its fan base. Go Bombers!

you mean he has potential to be the best player.
Ok that’s fair to say.
As far as our forwards go he can produce like nobody else.
He excels in the playoffs.
It’s frustrating to see him “appear” to be on a glide path.

It was a thing Biz talked about on his podcast...named Scheifele as one of the notorious guys in the league that had girls on speed dial in every single city. Mentioned Sequin as one of the other guys. Biz alluded they kept score.

I heard the same about Scheifele from a girl that I dated for a bit... that he's known as being bit of a playa among her friend group. I was surprised and didn't believe it fully at that time due to him apparently never swearing and overall having a "dude who goes to church every Sunday" type of persona.

I'm actually surprised the mods are letting some of these rumours stand. I think talking about Trouba and some others having drug problems was considered libel with a warning, but talking about a player's personal life is somehow permissible...seems contradictory. The most plausible explanation for Scheifele's decline is being benched after a bad game, 2 games after scoring the GWG in heroic fashion, and one game after an important road victory. Because before that the signs were rather positive, and one could argue he was the only player generating consistent offense. I don't know more than anyone else, but it's obvious without Mark Scheifele playing at his highest level this team is going nowhere.

It's all about context, right? Saying someone has a drug problem without any proof is a lot different than speculating on their dating life. Nothing wrong with having girls to call in different cities if he's up front that it's just some fun - Ludicrous famously had girls all over different area codes.

This board needs its whipping boys. It helps make sense of the world if you can lay all the blame on one or 2 targets. Simpler that way.

I'm like a lot of people here. This team has beaten me down to the point I don't care if we make the playoffs or not.

I had fun the first half but I just can't stand how this group looks on the ice. Even when we play well it's crappy and boring hockey. There is no excitement. Our skill players don't make skilled plays and dissappear for long stretches

Honestly I'm close to wanting to blow this whole thing up. At least with a young team you will get kids busting their asses to show they belong.

It's frustrating for sure, but I think the team was flying too high for awhile, near the top of the mountain in the West, exceeding expectations. And when you exceed expectations and then crash down to earth, with a harder schedule down the stretch, there's bound to be disappointment.

The 2019 team was able to mitigate some of that crash with quality depth...that's not a luxury Winnipeg has anymore, especially at forward. If anything St. Louis was a good lesson about the importance of finishing strong vs. starting strong.

I still think this team is more like the 2021 team. Not a great team on paper, but played well enough to win on many nights. Stumbled mightily into the playoffs, with Calgary also falling apart at the same time.

Not much was thought of that team heading into the playoffs, because of the way they limped in, but once the series started the team was dialed in.

2 wins this week, a Calgary loss, and a couple of Nashville losses and the Jets will be sitting pretty good for that final playoff spot.

At the beginning of this season I think any fan would have been happy with a playoff result, after last year's disappointment.

Winning the West would have been quite the accomplishment, but beating Vegas in the playoffs would feel good, be redemption for a few guys here.

I don't think this core stays together next year, so it's going to look different. How different I guess depends on how well this team plays down this stretch.

Fixing the PP should be the priority right now, I think that might be the biggest frustration here.

I'm very frustrated with the Jets right now but after losing our team and going without NHL hockey for 15 years i'll never stop watching or cheering for the Winnipeg Jets. We were beyond crappy just last season and it's been a few years since we could go to a White-out, let's get the PP going, start scoring some goals and bring on the playoffs .

Is Scheifele a whipping boy or is the criticism of his play of late legitimate?
He needs to step it up and soon, this team needs him.
If he is immune to be criticized then they all should be.
Is it the roster or is it coaching?
Probably a bit of both.
Cannot believe his far this team has fallen.
I guess we tend to gloss over the games Helle steals and when he isn’t able to we see the reality of what our roster and coaching is.
Cheveldayoff and Chipman have a lot of work to do this offseason.
Fans won’t support this mediocrity especially if there is no apparent changes to the roster.
They exceeded expectations the first half which means the potential is there.
This second half has been crap to watch.
What gives?
