The Jets have taken the enjoyment of hockey right out of me.
I worked during the game yesterday. Most other seasons (and earlier this year) I would avoid the score and watch it fresh on the PVR when I got home. I figured, “why bother” yesterday — they’re not gonna win. Low and behold, I come here after the game and see we lost.
I made a comment here last night about how I couldn’t wait for summer to start. It’s true. I’m tired of the winter wonderland and want some nice weather for bike rides, taking my Corvette out for a drive, and ice cream on the beach … but I’m also just ready for the Jets season to end. We very well might make the playoffs but we’ve been playing SO badly lately that it’s hard for me to get excited for that.
The Bombers fell on their faces in the Grey Cup and pissed away the great season they had. BUT — they give me hope. Different leagues, different sports, different circumstances, but I am a million times more excited for the Blue and Gold to get rolling than I am to see the rest of this NHL season play out, and I generally prefer hockey to football. But the Bombers, man, I can’t wait to see them line up Kenny Lawler, Dalton Schoen, Nic Demski, Rasheed Bailey, Drew Wolitarsky with Brady Oliveira in the backfield and Zach Collaros slinging passes and dare other teams to stop them. It’s gonna be a fun season.
Anyway, back to hockey. I love coming here to read the takes on this board but I’m just so apathetic towards the Jets right now. I cannot understand why, in the thick of a playoff battle, the Jets are so inconsistent (at best) at giving a full effort. You have a guy like Scheifele, who was drafted as a hockey nerd who prided himself on improving his game … and he’s just floating out there. Again. For another season. I always envisioned him playing his entire career here, but I think he needs to go.
This is the third coach these guys have cratered under. It’s time to move on from the core this summer, IMO.
Call me a fair weather fan, call me a pessimist, call me apathetic, whatever you want, I’m just not enjoying the Jets like I used to and I’m ready for a change.
