Yeah me too. I think he’s trying to catch back up.
sounds like he was exhausted based on comments to the media down the stretch. Forget the exact quote but was something like how he hadn't played in so long so to go from that to playing so often was hard. Also he talked about how covid and not being able to do anything away from the rink was getting to him.
Thought for sure he would take the break.

I'm glad Vilardi is still playing, as opposed to not playing due to back issues. This should tell us that his back issues are a thing of the past, and hopefully Vilardi extending his play into June means he'll be in even better game shape come September/October.

Vilardi also missed his chance to represent Canada at the world juniors so he probably wanted to play for them again because who knows if he will get the chance again, even if it's not a prestigious tournament

I agree with these. My concern is, it sounds like Vilardi tends to be very hard on himself, so I hope this tournament is not more ammunition (I speak this as someone who is overly critical of myself, no matter how pompous I sound at times).

I'm just glad he seems to be physically able to play, as far as not having back issues.

I watched a few of the games and GV’s wingers were not exactly doing a good job of getting open. More than once he’d beat two guys and then have zero options other than to cycle again. He did look tired but as others have said I think it bodes well for his long term fitness that he went and it also shows a good attitude. JAD struggled at times also and frankly CAN looked awful from a structure standpoint. The issues definitely started behind the bench.

Quarterfinals have started, Trevor Moore got robbed and could have scored 2 times in the first 8 minutes.

Matt Roy left for the dressing room after about 14 minutes of play. Minor injury?

American captain and, of course, ex-King draft pick Boyle scored, US leading 1-0 over Slovakia.

As I type this: Blackwell scores to make it 2-0, 4:35 left in 1st period.

Cal Petersen with practically nothing to do in net so far, sporting a ridiculous 1.01 GAA with over .950 SVS% for the tourney at this point.

Walker is definitely a leader on Team Canada. Played over 23 minutes in the overtime win against Russia. Vilardi had another meh game, and JAD's role on the 4th line is reduced.

Owen Power was given the "best player" award for the quarterfinal game, although I would have given it to Troy Stecher for that amazing pass on the GWG in overtime.

So, it's US versus Canada in the semifinals now. A bunch of Kings players will square off against each other. The US haven't won gold at the Worlds since 1933 (!) and silver since 1950, so that should provide some motivation.

I worry about Matt Roy. He only played over 2 minutes, sustaining an injury. Hopefully it's minor and he can get back into the line-up on Saturday.

Wolanin had a great game (likely got to play more given Roy's absence) and was +4 along with Zac Jones.

Trevor Moore got a pair of assists and is point-per-game and among the top 10 scorers in the tournament.

Cal Petersen leads all goalies in the tournament with some ridiculous stats: .961 SVS % and 1.01 GAA. Hopefully, he can keep it up. A historic gold medal from the Worlds, and being selected for the tournament's all-star team, could certainly boost his confidence for next season, especially since he seemed to be running out of steam towards the end of the NHL regular season.

It's great the Vilardi is playing as it likely means the back issues are behind him, but damn I wish he was having more success out there. I know it's just the WC, but it still concerns me.

First center, first defender & the tourney's top goalie so far.

Matt Roy out with upper-body injury. :(

I'd say Walker is the top defender on this team, rather than Owen Power.

Anyway, let's go! :thumbu: 40 minutes to puckdrop.

Haha... 55 seconds in, face-off Vilardi vs. Moore in Canada's defensive zone. Vilardi won.

... and Pirri scores, 2 minutes and 2 seconds in, after Walker streaking in on the left wing, Pirri burying Cal Petersen's rebound of Walker's shot.

Wolanin named player of the match for the US, and Petersen one of the 3 best US players for the tournament. Bronze medal game tomorrow versus Germany or Finland.

Walker was very noticeable in this game, and Vilardi was pretty solid, too, recording a +1. Still, he has a single point (an assist) in 9 games in the tourney, and is -3 overall. Well, he can still score the golden goal tomorrow in the championship game.
