Doughty on Tkachuk: "He's a pretty dirty player, that kid"

Not suprised by this, Tkachuk is getting a reputation for being a rat.

Whatever. No desire to hear Doughty crying. Tkachuk elbows him, there's no call, nobody does anything, but each team gets a minor after a bit of a scrum, then Calgary doubles down on that and scores 2 goals on the resulting 4v4 at the start of the next period, and the Kings put up no fight in the 3rd. That's an impressive string of events, and pretty much the Kings story this season. The Flames owned the Kings last night.

The Kings have transitioned into a soft team this season. Clifford is the only guy willing to step up for a teammate. Well, I guess Forbort did a couple times earlier in the season but he's not really a new-age 'enforcer.' And then you get to the physicality of the team. No d-men throw big checks or clear out the front of the net. McNabb when he isn't getting burned maybe once every 5 games. Brown and Clifford for the forwards are about it. The team may still average nearly the same amount of checks per game but there's a clear different in the type of hits they're now throwing. Then you look at the forechecking. Non-existent. No punishing opponents when they have to turn and retrieve the puck. And then the cycle game. Non-existent as well. Teams don't have to work hard to try and get the puck off Kings players sticks. This is not a finesse team with not enough skill or creativity to play that kind of style.

100% spot on, been saying this since 2015.

Reminds me of the Red-Wings teams of the 2000's, without the Elite skill throughout the line-up.

Soft as butter, everywhere.

The same thing happened to the Flames. Their 2004 team was Iginla and a bunch of grinders. A few years later, after adding more and more skill, they were either a 1st round or non playoff team.

Funny how from 2004 to 2009, the Flames made the playoffs, and the Kings didn't. From 2010 to 2014, the Kings made the playoffs, and the Flames didn't. In 2015 and 2017, Flames make it, Kings don't. In 2016, Kings make it, Flames don't. So for more than a decade, each team is almost stealing a spot from the other.

But yeah, the hits the Kings throw are mostly depressing.

Ok for fun (?) I read the main board about the hit on Doughty.
What did I learn? Doughty dove to get a call.

I was watching the Zombie Show, so I missed the 1st period entirely.....

Tuned in for the 2nd.... discovered Sutter had pulled Quick in favor of Bishop after allowing only two goals in the 1st period. Immediately KNEW Sutter made a mistake for switching to Bishop (i.e., in the off-chance that Quick allows 2 bad goals, he almost always shuts the door at that point).

Then watched helplessly as the score magically switched from 2-1 to 4-1 ......switched channels to something less depressing......

The Kings might not be able to get Brown, and Gaborik's contacts off the books. But they can bring in a new resident enforcer, its time to trade Clifford, Nolan, and Andreoff. The're has to be a tough guy in the minors the Kings can bring in here to do the job. Clifford is finished as a tough guy, i don't remember the last time he won a fight. This team rarely responds to dirty hits and cheap shots to the top players, plus every time McNabb throws a big hit he gets jumped by the other team, and nobody backs him up.

Everyone should have considered that when they were pissing and moaning about guys like Matt Greene.

This is why I am a bit worried about our defense going forward. LaDue, Gravel, and Forbort are great young talents, but none of them are showing anything resembling meanness or intimidation (outside of Forbort very occasionally). We've replaced guys who use their body with guys who use their reach. Letting guys waltz into the slot is not this team's identity.

The reason I'm pretty sure Sutter was sending a message by pulling Quick was how Quick was reacting to the goals and the pull. He didn't seem particularly upset with himself on the goals and the guy was pretty calm when coming to the bench.

I am completely on board with that. I'd keep Nolan and AA because they'recheap options I'd like to see utilized under a different coach. Clifford's history of concussions plus the fact that he makes almost 2 million and doesnt even do his job means he should be traded.

Perhaps, but you've gotta admit...... Bishop has been only slightly better than garbage for us. Every time that guy slides to one side, he's leaving a LOT of room open on the other side. I'm very, VERY surprised he's not exploited more for wrap-a-rounds! LoL, dude's giving me a heart attack!!! :help:

I'm sure Quick was not happy at all the day after a long road back from injury the Kings traded for a goalie. Maybe now we're seeing the results of the GM messing with his status as a #1 goalie and he probably doesn't care for or has tuned out Sutter like the rest of the team.

Bishop hasn't been the same since his injuries and I fear he's just damaged goods.

I don't think Quick's worried about his job. Only way I'd think he was worried is if the Kings gave Bishop a starter like contract offer.

What did you expect him to say? "I enjoyed it" or"No comment"

This is Drew Doughty, he has been outspoken since day one. Crosby and Toews complain too, all top player do. The thing that's disheartening is that the guys have stopped caring about each other. There's no heart, there's no fire, everyone is playing as a single unit.

What? Why are all of these players giving up on their teammates? Why is Quick suddenly that mentally weak? I thought he was one of the strongest on the team.

Teams should be lining up with that endorsement.

Change of scenery, two time cup champ, truculence. Teams are always willing and able. He wont get a 2nd by any means but hes got some value and worst case scenario, you waive him or hope hes a throw in in another deal.

I'm just saying I don't care if he thinks he's a dirty player. Go complain to your teammates in the dressing room then. Get them to do something about it. Maybe he did, and nobody listened. Like you said, they don't seem to even care enough about each other to rally around hating the coach together as some kind of motivational tool. So it's a wasted year in terms of on ice success. They still get paid.

Kempe only received 10:39 of ice time, fewest shifts out of any skater on the Kings. He also received no PP time but 1:30 of short handed ice time. Youth movement? Looks like typical Sutter to me.
