Jeannot is leading the team in hits (top 10 in the league) and he can play. He's a way better player than Reaves, Lemieux, or MacDermid (even though he is a D).
No way is he better than Lemiuex.

When Lemieux was playing well he was actually very good.

I guess my point was less that he's throwing those kind of hits and more that he's throwing them because he can't catch anyone

He's clearly not an enforcer since he can't win a fight. If we just needed an enforcer that can't play, I'm sure Reaves or similar would have been cheaper.

If we just needed a guy to be physical and won't fight much, there are plenty of guys on the rat spectrum in the league these days, but I'm sure a Clutterbuck type is available.

If we needed an absolute nuke to be a part time player, well, we had MacDermid.

Jeannot does none of the above. Can't play. Can't win a fight. Just takes ill advised penalties because the game is too fast for him.

IMO, guys that can't take a regular shift without hurting the team don't add to team toughness.
Yeah. I get that. I was making a more general point… your post happened to be the one that inspired me. :)

When he was playing, it was always good for a penalty and never given the benefit of a doubt. He was a total liability any time there was a scrum, of any kind. He's on his what...6th team?

Andre Lee has 0 goals, can't fight and is -4. Why aren't fans all over him?
Because:
- he's a rookie. Jeannot is not
- he's a 7th round pick. Jeannot cost a second and fourth
- he makes $750k. Jeannot makes $2.67

Nearly all of those guys throw borderline hits. I’d say every one of them but then I’d get someone giving the outlier examples. If we ‘want’ a genuine enforcer type then you have to accept the crappy hits. It why I laugh at the daft notion that fighting protects anyone as banning fighters would make the game much safer as a whole.
We can accept that borderline hits get thrown while also wanting them to do better. Just like when people complain about Fiala being a defensive floater despite the fact he's a one-dimensional winger. We take the goid with the bad but acknowledge what's bad.

I disagree that banning fighters would make the game safer. I think it would just empower rat behavior. I think the opposite still needs to be done, and get rid of the instigator rule. Sure, you'll still have borderline hits, but maybe someone will pause if they know they'll get multiple punches to the face.

You're just remembering the bad stuff.

People forget how good the "good" version of him was.

Agree on the instigator.

The only reason I see the Kings NOT re-signing Jeannot is my other favorite player Helenius.

The 4th line for 2025-6 would be Lee-Helenius-Thomas - assuming Lewis finally walks.

Lemieux was really good until he got that knee injury i think it was in NJ? And he was never good after that for whatever reason(s). It was an outlier just as Jeannot had the outlier in Nash several seasons ago
It wasn’t an outlier. He had good phases at other times in his career.

He was extremely up and down.

My view is that fighting prevents absolutely nothing. Based on the various rats and enforcers I’ve spoken to… none are deterred by the threat of a fight. It’s a revenge and an emotional outlet. The only reason for fighting is that people like it… which is fine but I just don’t buy the rest of it. If they don’t want rat/cheap behaviour they could remove it instantly by giving proper suspensions for bad hits and stick work.

A 25-35 game suspension for a hit to the head would mean that hit against VAN doesn’t happen. A 1-3 game suspension and maybe a fight stops nothing.

Just my view and I know I’ll be in a minority of one :sarcasm:

What season/team... i dont see any numbers that back that up

He meant up and down from the AHL to the NHL :sarcasm:

He had a good year in 20 with the Rangers, and the previous year when he was traded halfway thru the year with the Jets as well

But a very uneven career punctuated with injuries, benchings, etc.

That's fair. I disagree, but understand.

I also think with the frequent fast pace and physical contact, competitive drives and aggression grows. I think as long as it's agreed upon/accepted by all parties, allowing the release (within rules) is very important.

Outside the draft, almost every one of Blake’s acquisitions are a steadily increasing net loss in hindsight. But Jeannot isn’t the worst of the bunch.

The cost was middling and what they could pay was constrained, so it’s not like the picks could have gotten some future star. And his cap hit isn’t bad, like around $2M. And for just this season.

So he isn’t crippling them in any way. Personally, two of my favorite memories this season are him demolishing Zub and catching Boeser admiring his pass. For $500k’ish more than Lizotte, I’m more entertained than watching a try hard midget get regularly blown up with 13 minutes of ice time on average.

2nd and 4th and 2.7m on the cap.. agree its not the worst.. but consider what you couldve gotten for 3LD if you spent that cap and Edmundson's on a better defender.. or instead get more upgraded on the wing than Foegle. To me that wouldve been a better use of cap and kept the picks... you have Akil ready to contribute on the 4th line - though a different type of player, has more scoring upside.

For sure, a real GM would think three steps ahead. Unfortunately, ours is 2 steps behind most days.

Jeannot has been perfectly fine as a 4th liner. Solid on the forecheck, not a liability anywhere at all.

He deserves the suspension, but he hasn't been a problem on ice. The problem was the price and the fact that Blake keeps getting waxed in deals. Jeannot was not worth that cost as a 4th liner, and yet another overexpendature to hedge his overreaction to something he should have seen coming.

15 games, 1 goal, 1 assist and 3 fights and 8th in hits with 47. That is fine with me.

Danault and Moore only have one goal and people aren't all over them.

Tanner was acquired to be a bad guy and change the tone of the team - he has done that. Last nights hit proves it. He stood up for Mikey Anderson - FINALLY someone does and also taken out Zub and Boesner.

Andre Lee has 0 goals, can't fight and is -4. Why aren't fans all over him?

Are you recommending extending him?

I was pissed but I looked and don't really see who can replace him?

Your up on that.

Resign him or sign which FA?

They thought they were getting a middle 6 forward.

Im not sure their plans on bringing him back but people think Frederic is available from the Bruins. May be a good fit here
