I'm going to give you a list and you are going to say your piece about how they scored 2 points in a game once.

There is a collective "meh" surrounding this team's effort on most nights. #11 is the guiltiest but, like, you can look at every time anyone passes up finishing a check or quickly loses a board "battle".

There is an overall talent issue with this team, as has been the case for a few seasons now. With that being known before the season started, I still agree with you that it is surprising they are this horrible.

Did the talent level completely fall off from last season to the current pace of being one of the worst teams ever or are they not putting forth the effort needed to win at the NHL level?

Little of Column A, a ton of Column B.

Got it, so you think effort equals points produced.....

Interesting concept....so then I can conclude you think Thompson doesn't give any effort, whatsoever, at any time?

Losing Quick would be a huge kick in the nuts for me but I'd be happy for him and it's the best for the Kings.

I said as much too. These guys are and will always be Kings legends. Will hurt to see a lot of them in different jerseys. Hell Justin Williams kills me, same with Willie Mitchell. Imagine Brown in a Sabres jersey, or Quick in a Pens jersey, or Doughty in a Leafs jersey. Yet it may still be the 'right' thing to do. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Doughty calls Kings' season 'pathetic, embarrassing'

Will always love Drew, he can be immature, but at least he's unfiltered. And I love how he said all this without being disrespectful to other teams, this might be his best take. I think he needed this season, really, dude has always been on an ascending or competitive team, I have to believe he goes into this summer like a wounded animal and comes out the other side a Norris winner next year, he may finally be growing into the leader role even if it's too late here.

Now what playoff contending teams that think they are close to contending for the Cup can seriously afford to add Jonathan Quick, who has an additional four years remaining with a $5.8M AAV.

A lot of those teams are up against the cap. If Bobrovsky won't re-sign with Columbus, they make a lot of sense.

The Blues and Flyers don't have any stable goaltending, and a Jonathan Quick can make a world of difference for those clubs, and they have young players the Kings would have interest in.

The cat's out of the bag. Doughty is really @Sol.

In answer to your question, I see only Calgary as fitting that description. Not sure Columbus would make a move for Quick with Bobrovsky still there this year. Philly is not a real contender and the blues...well...you know.

Bold ass claim but man

Lot of the rhetoric around those even remotely close to the team has changed entirely, maybe Rob and Luc get it.

I would not be surprised if Carter is traded. I would consider it a minor miracle if Quick goes due to his contract. It would really make me sad, but I would understand it.

No effort equals effort and very few have given the effort it takes to be successful in the NHL this year. The kids playing in the NHL for the first time, Clifford, Thompson, Brown, and in the last few games (finally) Doughty are pretty much it. THere's a reason a f***ign midget from one of the shittiest teams in the league comes to this abortion of a roster and looks amazing. He's one of the few trying.

I buy nothing into his predictions [see Wiliams traded for sure ,Joe Thorton will be a King, etc...]

Quick has been a warrior, would be unfortunate if he got dealt, but like most here, I would be cool with it and having a chance to see him potentially compete for another chance at a Cup.

Just can’t see a match in season other than as noted above, Calgary. Maybe it’s something in the off-season that could take place at/around the draft, if it were to happen.

Quick almost has to be traded. For so many reasons and all of them are right. After seeing the return for Pearson, it's going to be much the same for Carter - a poor return.
The ones that will get the best return, are ones who can still play and other GMs want. They would be: Quick, Muzzin, Martinez and Brown. I bet many GMs have little interest
in Toffoli and Carter - they have cap hits and are playing terrible. If Blake and a GM discuss those 2, I bet they want to offer the Hagelins of their team - an equal OR less
talented player, that also has a semi bad contract. Carter turns 34 in 3 weeks and is no longer a scoring threat. Toffoli is getting a few opportunities, but not finishing.
Seriously, both these guys have 1 goal in 16 and 17 games. For playing line 2 and PP minutes. And they both offer little else - no physical presence.

When is comes to Quick, the 5.8 cap hit isn't horrible. Price makes twice that! Rinne is 36 years old and just got another 2 year contract! Quick can still play.
If it wasn't for Phaneuf deflecting one past him and that last crazy redirection, he was good last night. His previous 2 games were good and his 50th career
shutout...we have been spoiled by having TOP goaltending for 11 years with him!! If we had an average goalie, we would KNOW how bad that is....like BEFORE
Quick. Most of us remember. Cloutier...on and on...So H YEAH, GMs want him...it just means for them to take on 5.8, Kings have to retain some
or get back a 4+ million contract. Fine. If that player is just a decent player, fine. (No Phaneufs Thompsons - a decent roster player) and also a 1st or 2nd round
pick and a high level prospect. That's what I see happening. If Tomas Tatar returned a 1 and 2 last year? To help Vegas score goals for the playoffs? Surely
Quick can fetch a #1 ( late 1st round anyway - we're talking a contender taking him) But yes, a good prospect as well as a roster player with 4-5 cap hit.

Petersen is ready. Campbell is ready. Are they Quick? No one is Quick. Whats the point of keeping him, when GMs will offer something for the rebuild.
This team cannot win for the foreseeable future....UNLESS Kupari, Vilardi, JAD, the #1 from 2019 come in and are like Mathews Marner Nylander....
which is not the case. I do think those 3 prospects are the best in years and will make an impact in top 9. But not overnight. Akil Thomas is on fire and will be good, but seems like one that needs AHL time. If the Kings actually get top 3 and draft Hughes or Kakko or Dach, that player may be playing here next year as well. It's like a rebuild could not be a 3-4 year thing with #1 pick, Kupari, Vilardi, JAD and an asset or 2 from the trades all make impacts. That could be 4 to 5 good young players.
Scherbak MAY be a player too. We will know more in 16 hours. Leipsic is what the 3rd line needs. If he continues to excel, sign him 1 more year. Shown he can skate, make plays, work hard and what the 3rd line needs. For cheap too.

What possible argument is there to keep him? Oh, keep him and trade, Muzzin, Marty, Carter Toffoli, and....so and so before Quick. You're already
rebuilding at that point. Truth is, it's going to be hard to win any trade with most of those guys. Muzzin and Marty will return EQUAL value, I think.
So to get value, you trade the ones GMs want and are BIDDING against each other. Quick may be that only guy on the team like that.

I'm 100% fine with putting Petersen in #1. He's been lights out...and won games on the road as well.
He's only going to get better too.

First ten games, I would give you that, last 10 games you're full of shit, and that could be just the piss and vinegar of the team losing, but every player out there is trying to do what the coaching staff is asking from them, in the limited time that they have out there, it's horseshit to say they aren't trying.

Now that's not to say that every night, every game, they are all giving 110% rah rah rah, thats not gonna happen, there will be off-nights, but I think the team has turned the corner at the very least on effort....it's too late for most of the them, but they have turned the corner.

Maybe this season is what it took, and to some extent, the entire team.

Jim fox is that you? They've turned the corner? Talk about low expectations.

Carter makes the most sense since his contract--and real dollars--are the most palatable.

Quick would be much harder to deal but have to feel that Blakey loves him some Cal P since he signed him.

All that said, Hoven is Hoven.

If you move Quick, you're gonna have to eat some salary, say 2 mil if not more. You also have to think the way Cal has been playing, some GM may [will] throw an offer sheet at him next summer as an RFA. Until he's signed, I wouldn't move anyone except Campbell.

Agree with all of that.

I guess the shocker for me isn't so much Hoven in a vacuum making a pretty bold claim, just that he, Rosen, and practically everyone else have finally realigned from "this is salvageable" to "abort, ****ing abort" together.

I think they saw the writing on the wall the day before Thanksgiving, that the season is lost, and now are just coming to grips. All those games against their division teams, and only getting a few points sold them. That was the make it or break it part, and every game was winnable. They failed. #abort

Imagine if Kempe put that same effort in? He's turned into Frolov 2.0 , but without the scoring, and this is only his second year.
