Because the budjet is going to be 20-30M €, so in order to trying to cover it somehow.. If it goes like in Finland that would normally go, tickets would be between 40-100€ for a seat. I don't know how much there is sponsor money thought coming, that is the variable that will grow, but how much if hjallis has to get the sponsors on he's own? And would away team Fans be ready to pay for Finnish standard priced tickets if they had to cover big slice of the budget on actual business? If they were able to sell 10 000 tickets per game on avera, with 35e average ticketprice, they would make 0,35M € for a home game.. How many homegames they could have? With 35 games they would make 12,25 million euro for tickets, rest should be covered other way.

Also I just pulled every figure out of my hat, but it makes you think, how can they have that high budget. That 10k average viewers can be optimistic, it counts on fans of other SM-Liiga teams like me to come to games and it also counts on Jokerit fans being with their team, counts on KHL game's having higher average than SM-Liiga games would. Maybe the budget is only going to double after all, to around 16M.

As I wrote in the other thread:

Iltalehti did a story on Jokerit potential budget today. Currently Jokerit have sponsorship revenue worth 4 million euros. According to the insiders they interviewed, realistically they can increase that by max few million, not by over 10 as Harkimo hopes.

I am pretty sure Jokerit will have a budget of 10-12 mio euro. That is absolutely enough to compete for a playoff spot in KHL.

The talk was of overall budget. If it goes up only from 8M € to 12M€, that will not leave much for player budget increase and definitely not enough for competitive team.

Well, Slovan and Lev had a similar overall budget last season and they both made the playoffs. In the first season it is important not to overpay players. Don't get me wrong but Jokerit is competing for players mostly with the other foreign teams in Europe not with Russian top teams.

Was Harkimo or his firms involved in building arenas in Germany? If so, which?

Actually the important question to ask the hockey community in Europe, do majority of the people believe that KHL is the second best league in the world?

Do the Deutschland fans think that?
Do the Swedish fans think that?
Do the Finnish fans think that?
Do Czech/Slovikia fans think that?
Do the Suiss fans think that?
And the rest (Italian, French, Danish, Polish, Croatian, Hungarian, etc.)?

If they think so then there is going to be an easy transition between future teams and/or expansions into the KHL.

No everyone in europe is delusional and thinks their own domestic league is the best.

And what does "If they think so then there is going to be an easy transition between future teams and/or expansions into the KHL." have to do with anything? The problem with swedish team joining KHL is that noone in Sweden gives a **** about KHL or Russia, so they have no interest in going to see their club playing against teams they don't care about. It's why ET and champions league gets 0 media attention in Sweden.

Bottom line: everyone that knows anything about hockey knows that KHL is the 2nd best league in the world. But in Finland and Sweden people are generally not interested in KHL, because the gap to our leagues are not huge, so there is little point to follow it when a lot of people already follow their domestic league, and NHL. Why add a 3rd league to follow?

Why do people ask questions about Sweden and KHL if they can't accept the answere? Check the swedish subforum if you want to know the opinions of others here.

Hint: they are all pretty much the same as mine.

there are two scenarios here: KHL falls apart or there's going to be a Swedish team in it: like it or hate it, but that's how the cookie will crumble.

A swedish team in KHL is not that unlikely. The potential teams and the reason why they would want to join KHL has been brought up in a few threads here, and on the swedish board. My local team is probably the best bet right now. A lot of free cash for teams with economy problems and a promotion to a better league (the potential teams are right now playing in SHL-2) is tempting for anyone.

What does that have to do with anything he said? Just because swedish people in general doesn't care about KHL doesn't mean that there aren't a few people that find the development of the league to be interesting.

KHL is pretty much nothing in Sweden, you hear about it when Swedish players sign there during the offseason but after that there is pretty much zero media coverage of KHL. There's no real intrest for a league that is just a little bit better than what we have and a lot worse than NHL so there's no reason to follow it just like you don't follow Eredivise or Superligaen in soccer if you're a normal swedish sportsfan.

A normal sports-intrested person in Sweden can probably name two or three KHL clubs (if not less) and have no idea who won Gagarin Cup. Russia and KHL just isn't that intresting for a swedish person, even though there are a few exceptions of course.

If we ever get a swedish club in KHL this might change but I doubt it. A person from Gothenburg would never put much interest into a club from Stockholm playing in KHL for example, swedish fan-culture doesn't work that way.

1) Just curious, Swedes does not follow KHL but they claim KHL is "just a little bit better than what we have (SHL??)" Dont get me wrong, I can not compare both leagues. On the other hand I can see the exodus of Swedes off SHL (to NA, KHL, elsewhere), even 27 y old Soderberg left the league. I mean, he is not 18y unexperience player. If SHL club got 1M USD for him, I would say nothing. Transfers happen in sport.
KHL does not lose its best players, that is a different among SHL/KHL.

2) Dont know if you guys realise what happened a few days in Helsinki. Europe wants euro competition, but can not launche it without Russians (KHL). Look, KHL and Finns made a deal - we give you Jokerit, you will support euro competition. Why not the same to happen in Sweden or Germany? I know, different fan culture etc. KHL has not only a joker but ace in their hands. KHL can support euro competition, but wants swe (ger etc) club in KHL as compensation. If not, so no euro competition. Why is a loser in this game? Of course Europe. Because no euro competition means that more and more clubs will look at KHL as option. Maybe swedisch clubs dont care, they have SHL and dont need euro leagues. I am ok with it. Does Germans, Suiss, Finns have the same opinion? To be honest, I have an opinion that SWEDEN is a reason why we dont have any euro competition (Champions League or Europe KHL without Russians). Swedes have blocked every attempt. You can say Gazprom blocked CL in 2009, true, but why? Because NHL, through Swedes, wanted to control it. [MOD]

Of course there's no interest at the moment. Why would there be? Very few people in Finland were interested in the KHL either before last Thursday. Not very surprisingly, the interest started growing the minute it was announced that Jokerit will join the league.

So, for example, if IFK Göteborg plays in Champions League group stage, football fans in Stockholm don't care or watch the games? If so, then that is definitely different from Finland, but maybe it's because we have so little international success in the sport.

I am just asking the question to find out if the fan culture is really so different in Finland and Sweden. I'm not saying it isn't, or that it shouldn't be. I'm totally fine with it, whatever the case. Just using football and Champions League as an example that Swedes can relate to, because they said nobody in Sweden cares or never ever wants to care about KHL. It is just that in Finland people would follow any team in Champions League group stage, and, based on buzz this KHL expansion has created during past week, I'm pretty sure people are interested in KHL-Jokerit even if it's not their favourite team in SM-liiga.

They possibly could watch, but it's not so much because there is a swedish team there, it's because champions league is after world cup of football and european championship of football the biggest sports event every year. And if you're playing in champions league, you're most likely playing against a really good team. That is not the case in swedish hockey. Every champions league football game gets coverage here.

@Vorky, so KHL will help us with a euro tournament or a euro league? Because why should SHL send a team to KHL when we don't care about a euro tournament? You already know how little we care about hockey champions league and european trophy. It's exhibition tournaments with no media coverage.

Also, Söderberg left for NHL, because you know, he's actually good enough.

Tuomas (one of the Eteläpääty bosses) said at Jatkoaika that they'd talk with Roman Tuesday about what his plans for the fan section would be.

Any report about this meeting? Or was is next Tuesday? Sorry, I'm too lazy to browse through Jatkoaika forums...

Thanks for the answer, and you're probably right. Maybe Champions League isn't the best comparison. Also in Finland a lot of people watch it no matter who's playing in there. Though I still think the interest would grow exponentially if Finnish clubs could make it to the group stage, and everyone would root for them.

I know what you and other Swedes have said all the time. "We dont care at all" That is your choice, I have no problem. On the other hand, there are Finns, Germans, Suiss, etc who would welcome euro hockey league. KHL can join such league as well. Will be this league without clubs from Sweden? Ok, I am fine with it, your choice.

Nono, if there is a league, you'll very very likely see swedish clubs in it. There is no way there will be a european champions league or whatever without Sweden, it's like having UEFA champions league without clubs from England or whatever. It's just not a good leverage to get anything out of Sweden.

Btw, if KHL say NO euro league, there will be NO euro league. Or ET which is a joke.
