That seems to be more reflective of not having any monster deals and icing the youngest roster in the NHL. The "youth" teams always have a ton of cap, even when taking on bad deals. There is a lot of merit into what Kevyn talked about in his presser, getting talent to come here is a monumental task for a bunch of reasons, including his mistakes. It sounds like he tried to spend the cap in the off-season but it's hard to make people come here
For 5 years in a row? Going with a youth movement doesn’t stop you from signing good UFA’s instead of the cheap, bottom of the barrel guys like Adams has.

Yeah, his first two years were rebuild years and the third one was one too but they far exceeded expectations. That season caused the season 4 meltdown as he put all his eggs in the youth basket with a few vets. Year 5 he added a bunch of fa's and spent a bunch of money but much like year 4, the core has shit the bed. You also have to understand that good fa's get to pick their spot and then work on the money. Guys like Lindholm, DeBrusk, Monahan, Walker, Pesce, Dillon, Roy, Stolarz were never going to come here, regardless of how much money was thrown at them.

Can you tell me what is it he did the first two years that were the foundation of the rebuild? I don't see it. I don't see where he built a defense or offense.

He stripped down the roster and put young guys in hard to succeed positions. It was clearly flawed and the reason we are here.
You’ve described going cheap with no plan to build a roster or help young players progress.

He asked what he did to rebuild.

Trading players who demand out and won’t re-sign or, god forbid, need surgery isn’t a rebuilding plan. It’s having players make your decisions for you. Because you are a goddamned joke.

Burning it all down to save it didn’t work in Vietnam, and it sure as hell won’t save this team the third time around.

Keep what you got, trade for what you need, bring in more vets who know how to navigate adversity, find a better GM, and get into the playoffs for next season.

Enough with the nihilistic melodrama.
we need the spectacle for distraction

Having an amateur like granato coach them for more than 2 years without a coaching search seems like it was more devastating than I feared when they decided to carry him on from Krueger staff

It's like a tapestry of bad decisions that never have good outcomes.

They so desperately need someone to lead the front office who knows what they are doing. Carrying on all the assistant coaches and (for some reason) grooming appert to be the head coach is the next big folly

They had a coaching search after the season.

In fact, a lot of people questioned why it took so long to make the decision on the permanent coach as Granato was out there hanging in the wind long into the offseason.

Maybe Adams was waiting for RBA situation to develop?
