Erie County believes that the lease runs longer than through the 2024-25 season.

I was going off of this article from September 2023. It is behind a paywall. Anybody who uses site like 12ft to try and outsmart these technical barriers is bad for humanity.

At this point, the county, which has an arena lease with the Sabres that expires in 2025, is not planning to put any funding toward renovations at the arena.

What a great inventory of Buffalo media. Two major local publications published similar articles 30 days from each other, with two different dates.

I’m not that mad at Adams, not yet anyway.

From Adams taking over the front office in March of 2021 until the end of last season. The plan he and Karmanos laid out and executed went pretty well. This season was the first set back. They chose to bet on internal growth. It hasn’t worked out but thats not quite the reason why.

Ironically, the internal growth they were hoping for actually happened. Guys like Mitts, UPL, Peterka, Greenway and Joker all took a step forward (A guess Quinn as well for that small blip). In some cases they were huge steps forward. Plus some youngsters emerged as quality depth as well (R.Johnson + Benson).

But the top guys have been a problem for most of the season due to poor play, injury or both. I certainly didn’t expect Skinner, Tage, Tuch, Cozens, Dahlin and Sammy to struggle as much as they did as a group. I doubt the front office expected it either. But their struggles are the biggest reason we are where we are. Had the top guys been anywhere near what they were last season right out of the gate. The internal growth we‘ve had should have been enough to take a step forward. Or at the very least we wouldn’t have regressed.

Adams was in a tough spot early this season because the core pieces he committed to struggled in their first exposure to expectations. There is no easy way to fix a problem like that in order to save a season. Major roster changes aren’t realistic until mid season or closer to the deadline when teams start failing out of the race. But by then it’s too late. You could fire the coach but there is no guarantee it fixes things and could even make it worse. Adams obviously didn’t feel a ton of pressure to make the playoffs this season. Or at least not enough to take a chance on a coaching change. It wasn’t a playoffs or bust season in his mind.

I still have a positive view of Adams and the front office due to the work they did from 2021 onward. But that will evaporate if the following doesn’t happen before next season.

1) Coaching staff needs to change. I don’t care if Granato sticks around but that staff needs to be retooled.

2) We need to add toughness and experience to the top 9 forwards and top 4 dmen. Guys like E. Johnson and Okposo are great leaders/mentors. But we also need guys like that who can play higher in the lineup. I want to see both layers.

3) We need to add role players. I don’t want another year of Krebs, or someone like him, centering the 4th line. Bring in a vet 4th line center.

Next year has to be a playoffs or bust year. I hope Adams values his job over loyalty to Donnie.

I want Julien. Not another players coach.

Cool story - literally none of the guys you mentioned took an actual step forward besides UPL.

“I still support Adams because he couldn’t have possibly known how to evaluate his top players, and know they would struggle as other teams adjusted. And hey, look how good Joki is now.”

Adams can absolutely be blamed for not firing the coach early in the year. This is a results based league. When the entire core goes backwards, it’s not a magical coincidence. The job of the coach is to extract performances from his top guys.

Granato should have gone months ago. To have him back next year would be a crime against humanity.

Enough rookie NHL coaches.

Maybe it’s time to ask him for results and inaction? Although with such an owner this is not surprising, it’s just some kind of endless shame.

Adams is absolutely responsible for this roster and its lack of players able and willing to go to the net. And its lack of veterans that can show the young players how to win at the NHL level.

Adams is absolutely responsible for this coaching staff and their inability to coach this team or get the most out of them. Or get them ready to start games on time over and over again.

It’s hard to even put this into words. this organization under Adams doesn’t even do the bare minimum. Ellis is still here. Forget Granato. Forget that top 4 D they’ve needed for years. Forget replacing Quinn TWICE when he had a long term injury.

Ellis is still here.

What possible hope can anyone have. How can anyone believe in Adams?

He isn’t just a failure. He’s worse. He’s what I was afraid he was. He’s nothing. Installed to do nothing and smile. They don’t care. They can’t. No one who cared could do nothing. No one who cared could have the off-season he had. No one could watch this and do nothing.

No one who cared could fail to do the absolute bare f***ing minimum

and Ellis is still here.

In their defense, they can't fire Ellis because he is the only one on the coaching staff who knows how to work the espresso machine....

Somehow I just realized he extended Granato with TWO years left on his deal. His extension hasn’t even kicked in yet

What an idiot.

It didn’t make any sense at the time. Zero.

It’s difficult for me to wrap my head around the fact that the guy who did this is also the guy who’s in charge of making player personnel decisions through the entire org.

Here is the timeline. It’s absolutely insane.

20-21: Interim HC- 9-16-3 (21 pts .375 P%)
Named HC. Extended to 23-24
21-22: 32-39-11 (75 pts .453 P%)
Extended 2 years to 25-26.
22-23: 42-33-7 (91 pts .555 P%).
23-24: 22-24-4 (48 pts .480P%)

Rookie GM Danny Briere and his team, which seems to be rebuilding, are in the playoff zone. Yzerman, who made some moves in the offseason, is in the playoff zone. Where's Kevyn? That's right, he's in the ass again, instead of strengthening roster for the second year in a row, he didn't do a damn thing, and now the coach has turned into a pumpkin. Either he should start making serious steps already, or he should give up his place this summer to a guy who will take steps if Kevyn himself is not capable of it, no matter what the reason.

The ugly truth is that this guy's developing prospects really aren't that good.

This needs to be talked about more. The fact that the Americans are middling this year should be a huge red flag to this process.

They are currently 4th in a division that sends 5 to the playoffs and 21st in a league sending 23 teams to the playoffs. Granted I will be shocked if they don't actually make it since they have a couple games in hand.

But it also doesn't change the fact that they are 2 points away from missing all together. My tinfoil hat says that part of the reason they are sending Levi down is to try and make sure they don't miss the playoffs.

These kids are supposed to be the guys who show up and become the next Peterka and Quinn. Cozens is supposed to start carrying one or two of these talents on the wing in the coming season or two.

And to top it all off none of these kids fit a need that this big club actually needs right now.

I think Adams should be let go anyways, but if Rochester misses the playoffs Sabres fans should riot.

During the 2nd intermission of hockey night in Canada, Friedman said the Sabres are looking for immediate help.

It seemed like he was meaning not rentals.

“The next peteka and Quinn??” I’m still waiting for Peterka and Quinn to show anything but flashes. They haven’t exactly arrived yet either.

Anyway, yes, Adams needs to be fired.

They're doing the same thing this year in Rochester they did last year - they were a .563 points percentage last year to finish third in their division, they're .560 going into tonight's game in Syracuse. They don't spend on AHL-level scorers, they simply brought back all the middling guys from last year (Biro, Weissbach, Murray) who they wanted to see if they had anything and they still basically haven't given any of them more than limited minutes to see what they have.

Levi got sent down because he needs work. Comrie has better AHL level numbers (.934 vs .911 save % and 2.26 GAA vs 2.50) than Levi so there isn't likely some tinfoil hat stuff. It's that Levi needs work.

From personal experience, if Rochester misses the playoffs, most Sabre fans would shrug and not understand the significance let alone riot.

Edit - I would also say that Rochester doesn't have any particularly tough in their lineup. Murray will drop the gloves but almost everyone else in the division has more people who will play rougher than Rochester. Again it seems like TPegs loves soft hockey.

People have been reporting the same thing for three years. They have to say something. If it was true this is the longest search for a player in the history of the world. Kevyn Adams isn’t looking for shit. He’s sitting in his office saying yes sir, great idea sir. And collecting a check from the only owner in the league who would hire him.
