You obviously don’t want a bunch of mercenaries counting the days until they can get the hell out of town, but take the chance to acquire some guys and convince them! If you make the playoffs with Necas as an essential part of it, maybe he decides he’ll re-up

Chad D has stated that he thinks it was Ehlers that was the player that Adams was close to trading for.

And Adams made it sound like he really wanted to make the trade and it was the other GM that backed out and never traded the player.

So, given both what Adams said and what Chad D has said, the idea that Adams didn't trade for Necas because of the contract situation just doesn't make sense to me.

:dunno:

I don’t recall at this point who said what but I thought there was sufficient smoke to convince me he was in on both

I do believe that Adams is "in" on a LOT of trade talks.

This offseason, sure seems like he was decently along the way for both Ehlers and Necas. But given everything, sure seems to me like he was closer to getting Ehlers than Necas.................and I loathe agreeing with Chad.

In the summer, the Sabres landed veteran winger Jason Zucker by giving him a one-year, $5 million contract. So far, he has been one of their most consistent forwards.

Adams also mentioned the Sabres diligently pursued a trade during the offseason – “We went all in on,” he said – that fell apart.

“You guys probably would’ve roasted me and said we were going to overpay to get that player, and they ended up not trading that player, and he’s still on that team,” he said. “So it’s not from lack of want, but we’re not going to go and just make a trade so you guys can say we’ve spent to the cap, if we don’t think it makes sense for now and into the future. You just can’t operate like that.”

That is what I remember Adams saying at the presser.

That doesn't sound like Adams walked away from the trade because of the player's contract situation.

Yeah, I think he’s talking about ehlers, but is also using very loose language here

Well, maybe it was Necas, I remember how angry Adams was and that Tulsky seemed to almost accept Adams' offer, but then he probably leaked information about Necas' sale to the press and other offers came in. In the end, the deal fell through.

Ehlers was rumored to be worth as much as Eichel, and I don't think Adams was going to pull the trigger. So I think it was Necas. Maybe Quinn + 1st or Savoie + 1st.

Adams has to get that deal done. No excuses.

No, that's not it, rumor has it that GM Canes didn't want to do it at the last minute and decided to hold an auction, so I'm not sure that Adams is to blame here. He is to blame for not finding another player and not paying for him. But in the trade for Necas... It seems like the ball was in Tulsky's court.

For the life of me I don’t understand Adams approach with the defense. I get locking in Powers and Dahlin. But the focus should have to surround them with good defensive dmen. If some were big and physical as well, even better. But at bare minimum defensive dmen should have been the focus.

I am laughing as a write this, but instead of doing that he went out and got Byram, another defensemen in the same mold...a player he has implied he is going to extend.....making our most expensive blue line even MORE expensive.

It is so plainly obvious to everybody who is watching a medium amount of hockey on their couch that this is dumb. Like so so so dumb.

Adams, by his own admission, said that this year was the 1st time he felt comfortable moving a 1st round pick.

He likely makes a lot of phone calls, but it sounds like he has rarely been serious about trying to make an acquisition until this summer.

And, now looking back at all the times that any insider has said "Adams has called about so and so" has likely come directly from Adams himself trying to make himself into being some big wheeler dealer and making the fans think he is out there trying to make the team better.

The narrative of he appears to want out there is that he's busting his hump and keep hitting NTC/NMC clauses because of the team, I think the reality is he hasn't seriously pursued much until this summer and even then he couldn't close.

If nothing else, it'd be consistent with the Pegula/Adams approach of only wanting guys that want to be here.

He just had a press conference where he explained in hilarious fashion that no one wants to be here.

That can’t be the roster building plan when you know that information.

He is still looking at this with the fear of losing players or picks or prospects. He needs to start worrying about losing f***ing games. It’s year five.

Adams can't make another GM trade a guy if he really wants to keep him.
That wasn't what was going on over the summer. Necas was actively being shopped.

sounds like Adams had no backup in place got played and now we're talking this b.s. he's an idiot that fooked the room w contracts

he's better than Casey learn to cover each players weakness that's Adams to essentially finish the trade
Not even close, Byram played with Power and it was our worst pairing in many ways. He did nothing to hide Bryson's shortcomings. Even Ruff said today that Byram is far from perfect. Dahlin is another matter, no matter who he plays with, their numbers are going up, we are missing our best defenseman.

Kevyn Adams has to be fired. His excuses are an extra layer of embarrassment on the franchise. No one wants to hear how hard it is to do your job when you sit on unspent cap space and too many prospects. Use the resources you have you unqualified puppet.

Standing there explaining that you can’t do the job and still retaining said job is absurd even for this franchise.

Ask yourself why Pegula keeps him and you’ll understand that he’s doing what’s asked of him. Save money, take heat, tell Pegula he’s the smartest, sexiest, most amazing man in the world. If competence, ability, track record or even not being a total embarrassment to the crest mattered..he’d never have seen year five. They don’t. Period.

Many years back in the early 80's there was a franchise that was viewed as every bit a basket case laughingstock as the Sabres: The New York Mets. From 1977 when they made the most infamous trade in baseball history (The Midnight Massacre) on they were a bottomfeeder playing in front of a completely empty Shea Stadium. In 1983, they ended up with a chance to acquire Keith Hernandez from defending champs St Louis (and make no mistake: offering him to the Mets was an act of spite by Hertzog and the Cards to Keith) and took it. Keith was absolutely devastated, going to a perennial loser everyone laughed at and wanted no part of it. Frank Cashen convinced him to give it a shot, and he soon realized that playing in NY for the Mets wasn't so bad. Things quickly turned around and a little over 3 years later Keith was mobbing Jesse Orosco on the Shea Stadium mound after the final out of the World Series.

Something for Kevyn to think about and learn from.

This is a big problem. Tage and Tuch sometimes just float. When I watched the game yesterday I couldn't understand why I noticed Kozak, Malenstyn, Benson more often, but I almost didn't see our first line the whole game. Add here the bad Cozens as our 2C, before that there was Quinn with one goal into an empty net, now Peterka with 1+1 in the last 10 games. This is very bad. We need some kind of shake-up in the top 6 and less kids there.
orba kozac not jaded giving up , for each line

doesn't mean each team hasn't learned to use each player

the best D past two games w hitting and exit passes fully engaged is 75 . if cozens and Quinn were themselves we wouldn't notice mitts

I though his best role was dishing to two better players 1c but he loses puck battles and is apathetic byram I believe has a better career if he takes it in his own zone and skates it in and sets up the o or scores power is the same if they both had a good hands beast to do the dirty work and an intuitive center that instinctive covered his rushes he'd look great

ruff will figure it but will we be out when he does
