Honestly the Thompson and Samuelson contracts have the potential to be the 2 best contracts handed out by a Buffalo GM in perhaps several decades. I had my doubts early on about KA’s ability to GM, but he’s done far more right than wrong. Respect.

And that both of them have talked about how they want to be around and want to be part of all of this reminds me of how the Islanders managed to sign their core guys to what looked like team-friendly deals back when Snow was their GM. They might get some of the rest in for a bit less each and that could keep them more flexible for longer.

So now we are stretching the Ullmark argument from the 4x5 he signed, to 6x6 for argument, to now needing a 6x8 assumption to try to defend KA. Ok....sure. If it would have taken 8 mil a year for six years, then he should have turned it down. You win!
I was under impression he signed for 6x6

My bad.

Ullmark signed a 4 year / $20,000,000 contract with the Boston Bruins, including a $3,000,000 signing bonus, $20,000,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $5,000,000. In 2022-23, Ullmark will earn a base salary of $5,000,000 and a signing bonus of $1,000,000, while carrying a cap hit of $5,000,000.

If we barely miss the playoffs, if we are 3 points out, it will beg the question...you couldn't use 5 to 10 out of the 20 million to make a better roster?
Its inevitable were gonna be making moves. Our play and development will determine when. If we get on a roll leading up to the deadline I most definitely think Adams will make a deal and not a rental coming in

Idc if it's a one and done. Getting to the playoffs will be massive with our young guys. I'm holding onto us making a run for the 8th seed

I think of our prospects as having a big five: savoie/Rosen/ostlund/kulich/levi. What’s crazy is that KA really deserves credit for building this group.

He got Rosen for ristolainen.

He got two bluechippers for reinhart (levi and kulich)

And he got ostlund from Vegas in addition to Tuch/krebs/2nd rounder.

That’s impressive
I think there's a big 6.

RJ is coming down the tracks, and I can't wait to see him in Buf/Roch.

I think I said it last year, but sign me up for a Regier and Ruff length run for Adams and Granato at this point.

Well duh, he's making 3x as much as before

I don't know how many listened to the After The Whistle podcast today.. but Peters and Rivet had Vanek and Miller on.

They were talking about Miller's ceremony and how well it was done and how welcomed they felt and how great the vibes felt. They also got into talking about when they were traded and how their was no communication to them and felt on the outside leading up to being traded.

It got me thinking that for the last dozen plus years we have been run by management teams that were basically cold hearted and strictly business.

We often say now that certain players "just get it". Dahlin.. he just gets it. Cozens he just gets it. Tuch gets it. Thompson gets it.
I think Kevyn Adams just gets it as well .. how he has handled managing this organization with humility and humbleness.

Time will tell if Adams has the chops to lead the team to being a contender but I think he has 100% succeeded in changing the culture of the Buffalo Sabres already.

There was talk back when Regier was GM about how he wouldn't talk to anyone after the end of the season. Heinze wanted to stay and from when their season ended to the opening of free agency, he never heard a word. There was nothing until right before the opening of free agency. He's not the only one who talked about that but it was one that always stuck with me as he was so excited to have come to Buffalo. There was some sort of team golf event and he was there, and apparently Regier told him at that event finally that he wasn't in their plans, thanks, have a nice life.

I think it’s just a part of being a good manager/co-worker. You want to show some humanity to your people.

Straightforward but respectful. Something’s wrong, don’t chew them out in front of everyone,‘it’s uncomfortable and doesn’t make you look like a “tough guy”. Sit them down, have an adult conversation, set your expectations and explain how/why they’re not being met.

When trading/cutting/firing, do it with some humanity. Again, face to face if at all possible, and be straight up. People will appreciate it. It’s how the Bills got Shaq and Jordan Phillips & Cole Beasley to all come back. I’ve had multiple employees come for multiple stints at my
Workplace just by being straightforward and not being a jerk.

Of our defenseman, besides Power, who was the beneficiary of winning a draft lottery, who has Adams been responsible for?

How is it possible he has completely ignored the defense position, other than bringing in a 6 or 7 in Boosh?

And we wonder why we are struggling defensively.

First off, it's a full team effort to be better defensively, not just the D-corps.

KA was gifted Dahlin and Samuelsson when he took the job, and gifted Power as a #1 pick. Other than that he's drafted Novikov, and Lindgren and Vsevolod last draft in the mid rounds. No not much there but you could say he didn't need to have urgency at that position with what he had coming in. Coming into this season it seemed as though a top-four was in place with Jokiharju as a bit of a question mark. We still needed a defensive RHD and he went with a bargain signing with Lyubushkin. I can't blame him for what he's done, but I think now it's clear that a better bottom pair is in order. This is part of the "let's see what we have" process for this season.

I'd like to think KA will be more aggressive in shoring that up in the summer. Maybe if Ryan Johnson signs the need is addressed to a degree. I'd like to see a FA signing like Ryan Graves or a trade with LA for Matt Roy, because even though Bryson has played better lately I just don't see him as being good in a playoff series, and Johnson may need time and may not even work out. Some of these guys look better at times in the regular season but we will need players that can be impacts in the playoffs. After new contracts for Cozens and Dahlin, and maybe Power and Mittelstadt are done...KA can see what cap space he has to work with and go after a proven vet or two.

If none of this pans out in the summer then I will be a big griper about KA and the D-corps.

Okay,

I just expect more from my GM than the "Let's see what we have" approach.

It's amazing to me how bare the cupboards are in this position.

This is how you find out that Fitzgerald, Pilut, and Bryson aren't quite what you hoped for. Lyubushkin is more of a certain value, although a little underwhelming to me. At least Jokiharju has shown to be decent as a #4 guy.

Do we scout defensemen??

Who do we have in our system coming up?

It shouldn't be a surprise that an NHL hockey team needs defenseman as well as forwards?

What else do you want someone to do than a “let’s see what we have” when the top 4 is Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson, and joker? There’s the bottom pairing but he has brought in players for that. Boosh and Clague are both KA.

It’s just funny to me to bash his “wait and see approach” when it it yielded huge wins in the forward core. If you bash this approach, you also have to give up what he’s found in players like Thompson…which is the DIRECT result of that approach

Prospects don’t play on the NHL team. They are prospects. Who do you think KA should have drafted on defense that would be playing in the NHL right now? Of course, other than the first rounder we spent on defense that is playing in the NHL (but I guess that doesn’t count because it was obvious pick….?)

They can fill up the defense prospect pool this year. Why are people so concerned with prospects on defense when there are 6 spots and the top 3 spots are literally set in stone with very young NHlers

(Also, we have Johnson coming up…another bonafide prospect)
