Lowe will go down as one of the most unprofessional managers ever. Let's see..

- Asking Comrie himself to pay 2.5M bonuses which nixed a Perry + 1st trade in '04
- The Brian Burke rant
- The 2013 press conference after interviewing no one and hiring a friend with no experience

Anything else?

The last two were the final straw for me. The Comrie one makes me sick thinking about it.

I agree with this..but "loyalty" was also one of the words used to describe the Oilers the other day, and how can you not be loyal to the one who had Gretzkys back at all times in the 80's?
Yes I agree he wasnt a good GM or President of hockey operations..but he did more than bleed copper and blue..I'm all for giving him some glorified front office position..I want him to be there when the Oilers win again..maybe not as one of the top 5 guys in management but in some less significant role more than just "advisory, or Scout of Hockey in the Middle East"

Kind of strange to have this thread before we know what happens.

Anyway, I might be the only person here who doesn't have a problem with Lowe. Part of that is because I don't think he's had much to do with the team on the ice in years.

And if you show me someone who says he doesn't care as much about this team as anyone else, I'll show you a liar.

That said, I will definitely welcome something new in Chiarelli, whether Lowe is still here or not.

I have no trouble at all separating Lowe the ex-Oiler player/coach from Lowe the GM/President.

As a player and coach, Lowe was a great contributor to the Oilers. The only reason at all we would not retire his number is because there were already so many from that era that we retired so we had to cut someone out.

I don't buy that he is a crazy narcissist either. This is the man who gave up any chance of having his number retired just so Hall could continuing wearing the #4. Lowe is a blowhard type of personality, which isn't all bad and served our team more than it hindered it.

As a GM/President, I definitely see how it is time to go fresh perspective, and that at this point he is a distraction. I think history will be kind to Lowe. The new fans who didn't have to endure the worst of this rebuild won't be so dismissive of him.

Yeah to be honest he really wasn't cut out for management. Far too emotional.
Chiarelli or whats his face isnt emotional??!! He traded away a bonafide bluechip Potential Franchise center for partying a few nights (or maybe Neely was his Lowe) either way his replacement aint no Prince.

Not trying to defend Lowe at all costs..just being Real. Chiarelli will do fine but aint no geneous.

Lets face it, from being the first ever Oilers draft pick to coaching, becoming GM and keeping the Oilers competitive before the Pronger curse..Lowe has always bled copper and blue.
Hopefully he gets a job as a head scout or something..
Dont think he's as terrible as some make him out to be..

he is under-qualified for many jobs he has had.

Hello voice of reason.

I agree in that it seems that a lot of folks are assuming a number of things about how the team works without actually knowing anything. The only moves attributable to Lowe in my eyes are his moves as GM. Those were hit or miss in my opinion, although I think his desire to win forced a lot of bad moves.

Anyways, if he is indeed moving on (which I doubt, I think he'll be around in some faculty) then I wish him the best.

With the exception of Al Hamilton (his number was retired way back in 1980), the Oilers require the player to be inducted into the HHOF first before his number is retired. That's why #4 isn't up there.

He's done his fair share of things to embarrass the franchise, whether through stupid comments or continuing to hire severely underqualified because he was friends with him. The past nine years are on him. Unforgiveable from a fan's perspective imo.

I guess it's just me, but I'm not even mad at Lowe anymore. The "plan" worked, against all odds, it worked.

Cheers buddy.

Sorry if I don't buy the excuse that a president of hockey ops has little to do what happens on the ice.

Set this **** on fire. Lowe lost all appreciation after overstaying his ****** welcome.

Don't let the door hit you on your way out.

NO.
No. No. No.

GOD NOOOOOOOOOO. (don't have the video on hand.)

I will be dancing when he's finally gone and hope to never, ever, see him associated with the Oilers again. Yes he was a good dman but he also was the worst thing to happen to happen to this franchise.

This is all assuming the parasite doesn't manage to avoid removal yet again.

I know in his younger days he was really nice guy from all accounts. He definitely cared. I'll give him that. He was long overdue here but he did care and he did try.

Kevin needs to stay out of the spotlight for awhile. You might say he needs to lay lowe.

Tomorrow is going to feel like a real live version of the ending of star wars episode 6

Luke = fans
Vader = Katz
Sheev = Lowe

If Lowe is gone then I thank him for bleeding Oilers colors. He was not great as a gm, made ridiculous statements about his cup rings. But the guy has always been a "lifer" Oiler.

Have fun with your wife Kevin. Time to enjoy retirement.

And I realize 90 percent of this board never had the chance to watch you help the Oilers their cups.

I for one would like to thank Kevin Lowe. I thought he did an amazing job for the organization! He was definately building something special in Edmonton!

As a Flames Fan I will miss Kevin Lowe!

The day the Oilers dump Lowe and MacT will end a Flames fan dream and Oiler fans nightmare!

Seriously though, Klowe and MacT both should be let go with no job handed to them in the organization. They have destroyed this once amazing franchise!

The last nine years have been a complex time that can't be fairly lumped together as one era of this team. I will always stick up for management's decision to allow the team to fall apart completely in 2009-10, because I acknowledge the need for these top drafted players we have now.

In 2009, Lowe had to have known that he would be dragged through the mud because he was about to deliver a lot of losses to the fans, and so that took a lot of courage to do. In fairness to Lowe's critics, he was at the top so the buck stops with him, and this rebuild has taken longer than he planned it to, which is an obvious fail and shows that wasn't best person for the job at that time. Our rebuild is 2 years of schedule from what I think is fair. That is bad but not the end of the world in the grand scheme of things.
