Yup - it’s the agent in him.Hughes has to already know he will have cap flexibility, probably knows both Price and Byron will be on LTIR come September
He's 88 Francis.Pls … stop.
Scotty maybe 88 but is sharp and breadth of experience as an advisor will do wonders for management & inexperienced coaching staff.
I can’t recall one other “hockey ops” employee who’s been able to adapt to each generation of player & the evolution of the game spanning his 4-decades in coaching - from the 60s through 90s including masterfully dealing with Star caliber players
Let alone his out of the box thinking - drafting skilled US high school kids when no one else did (Housley & Barasso), or understanding how to offensively employ a big but slow C (Andreychuk) etc.
Good to see “ageism” still thrives in some places..
I think they know about Price and are just making sure the optics look good. Once it's determined he can't do a specific exercise they have all the bullets they need to get a proper sign off. They don't want anyone coming back at them claiming we are circumventing the process.Hughes has to already know he will have cap flexibility, probably knows both Price and Byron will be on LTIR come September
Why not wait and see what he does? Maybe he's ready for the AHL. He's already been playing against men.It would had been awesome to see Slaf vs Wright at the WJC !
Kitchener, please.
We don't need a Caufield of Guhle, we need a Bedard. Forget the cup if we can't even get 1 superstar player.I would love a shot at Bedard but we can still get a Caufield or Guhle from 5-15 range.
At the same time, he's not going to make a call that would hurt Petry's value in a press conference...He keeps saying they don't have to trade Petry but at some point he'll have to. Not sure having Petry around in October, November, December while his wife and kids are still in the States is the type of thing we want around the team this year. Other GMs know this.
About the money, are signing bonuses are covered by insurance? If not, we are stuck with Price contract until the end...Au contraire
Price will not give up tens of millions and retire. He will rest his head on Robidas Island LTIR and every summer we have to juggle his enormous caphit and Molson will have to send him his enormous yearly bonus.
We can only hopeHughes has to already know he will have cap flexibility, probably knows both Price and Byron will be on LTIR come September
Hughes should sign Klingberg to accelerate the processI think the Klingberg situation is blocking any progress at this stage. If Dallas lose Klingbeg, they gonna knock at Habs' door.
Scotty is not being added to evaluate talent, he’s providing advisory services on the “what ifs” / “have you thought about this” litmus test scenarios..The reason this management team and coaching staff is exciting is because they are led by people who were outside the box hires. You don’t add an 88 year old advisor just so he can tell you that you need a Larry Robinson or Steve Yzerman to be great.
You don’t need a geriatric has-been to do that.Scotty is not being added to evaluate talent, he’s providing advisory services on the “what ifs” / “have you thought about this” litmus test scenarios..

Sounds like you're willing to go through the Bergevin era again, but without Price.
You might go 10 years or more to finish last again and win the draft lottery at the right time. We might as well do what the Blackhawks are doing with your strategy... Trade Suzuki and Caufield and tank every year until you end up like the Oilers. How many 1st OA do you need?
Don't give me the Leafs and Matthews plan. No cup. Oilers with no cup.
I get what your are saying but Dubois is not going to turn us into a playoff team. Trade Allen to get our cap working better and Price on LTIR. Monty and another Hammond gets you your top 5 lottery pick.
Imagine if we don't trade for Dubois and end up with a bottom 5 pick and don't win the lottery. A team from 5-10 range does. What a slap in the face that would be eh but that's what you get for playing the draft lottery. Even last overall is only a 18% chance.
You need just one that gives you a real franchise player.
Guy Lafleur changed everything.
Man looking at our left side really makes you think maybe drafting Slaf wasent the worst ideaWow we could dump that entire left side and possibly be better.
Oilers and Toronto both have no cups, yet they both have a more entertaining team to watch and a most promising team than we've ever had since the 90s.You might go 10 years or more to finish last again and win the draft lottery at the right time. We might as well do what the Blackhawks are doing with your strategy... Trade Suzuki and Caufield and tank every year until you end up like the Oilers. How many 1st OA do you need?

Plenty of good C's in the top 10 next yearLafleur was not in a draft lottery. I get it, I want Bedard too but it's low % even if we finish in the bottom 5. We can still add building blocks and rebuild through the draft. It doesn't have to be Bedard.
