I think he is ok at top 6 role but playing him in top 4 is a msitake. A big mistake at that.
Ellis is obviously injury prone so two screw ups by dumb ass GM fletcher during off season. Not to mention Risto is not what some of us thought he was.

If Ellis was healthy Yandle would be ok playing top 6. imo and if not, York would look great there.

Risto is exactly what most of us thought he was. That’s the point. It was obvious he was garbage before the trade and he’s still garbage now.

Yandle has played better paired with Risto and now York.
Who'd have thought playing with Seeler and Connauton would pull down an aging D-man with skating limitations?

Remember when Yandle was only playing because York and Zamula weren't ready? I remember.

Turns out they're more ready than Yandle. Oh right, the team isn't run on merit.

Ah so he's improved from "league worst" to "fifth worst."

Is it good management to guarantee a roster slot to one of the league's worst players?

Is it good management to promise not to run the team on merit?

You mean the molehill of evidence?
Every example put forth is easily refuttable.

Take Frost for example, how could they send him down to the AHL then trade for Thompson?

Well, it's simple, as a rookie he was subpar defensively, he had 3 points his first two games, then a total of 4 assists over his next 18 games, 1-5 6 ES over 20 games isn't what you want from a 3C - Laughton was also subpar defensively as a rookie, but was at least a reliable scorer. And he got sent down the next year for a full AHL season.

The fact that Thompson performed below expectations in the playoffs (he was fine in his short end of season cameo) doesn't make Frost NHL ready. If Frost or Bunnaman had shown they could handle center, they never would have traded for Thompson.

Let's revisit this. This is where you claim that the team is run on merit when I claimed it is not.

We have since learned that Yandle was promised a roster spot with zero accountability. That is the opposite of running a team on merit.

Have you figured out how this team works and thinks yet? You ought to, because it's really not worth the defending you donate to them.

Yandle has been at his absolute worst as the only dman on the PP. That's not Seeler and Cannauton's fault. And Seeler's ES GA/60 is second best on the team. Yandle's is the worst, so how is Seeler pulling him down?

I do not think he is garbage, he is just overpaid and has holes in his games when asked to play too much. If Ellis was healthy, our blue line woudl be a hell of a lot better. Provorov cannot do it on his own. imo
