Sure seeing the hate for the oilers on the main board

They’re the same people who praise Kadri and say he’s a good team mate for doing what he did recently but shit on kassian for sticking up for himself against one of the most hated players in the league. Best to just avoid that place lol

best part of the article :
"-As for Rasmus Andersson, you may recall that in the Vernon rookie tournament in 2015 he picked a fight with Darnell Nurse. Nurse speed-bagged him. Next year, the Flames (very unhappy with Andersson getting beaten up so badly) sent tough guy Hunter Smith over the boards after Darnell. Nurse promptly broke Smith’s nose. Guess that’s how Andersson makes guys pay? Apparently others have to fight for him, too."

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to bring this up. Andersson calling anyone a pretender is hilarious considering he found out first hand what happens when you step up to Darnell Nurse, who then proceeded to work every single tough guy Calgary sent after him without even breaking a sweat

I am seriously beginning to wonder if I'm seeing different replays than everyone else. Not only are both checks charging, clearly blindsided, and obviously dangerous, but the first one from the only angles I've been able to find, looks to be head contact. Obviously taking what a flames fan says about it is going to be just as biased as my view, but the mains appear to be full of "neutral" fans calling it clean as well.

Exactly! Going after Tkachuk in a retaliatory way is pointless. Kassian is a bigger, stronger guy. Throw your weight around against Gaudreau and others the same way Tkachuk does. Say what you want bout him, he did his job. And no amount of turtle memes will change the fact that they walked away with two points, while we have zero plus, possibly, a suspension. We need to be smarter than playing into Tkachuk strategy.
Kassian is bigger and stronger? Ok, he has one inch and 8 pounds on the turtle. He’s a p***y plain and simple.

Rasmus Andersson calling the Oilers pretenders is the greatest Pot-meet-Kettle statements I've ever heard. As if guys like Backlund and Dube wouldn't have been destroyed a thousand times already if not for the instigator penalty. No team in the league has benefited more from the instigator than Calgary (and the recent Ducks).

Wait, what? They're almost the same size and weight. Except one hits and backs it up. The other cheap shots and turtles.

Would’ve been nice if Kassian at least hurt him but he didn’t even do that.
It sure looked like he tried though, didn't it. But the turtle has learned very well how to crouch and protect himself. Sooner than later though, he will make a mistake and one of those punches gets through, whether it's by Kassian, Doughty, or whomever. And when that does, he'll need to eat with a blender and straw for a few weeks.

Impossible when the guy has his hands covering his face all the time like a coward. Someone will have to catch him with his head down and hit him.

Well sure, but that doesn't alter that the reason this occurs at all is that NHL jurisprudence is typically whacked and favors some players over others. Look at Tkachuks penalties taken and penalties drawn stats and wonder whether that is real.

In a different age your namesake had some licence as well that shouldn't have been there. had licence to use his elbows at will, had licence to go at Larry Robinson swinging his stick at him in the playoffs.

Not just the Oilers, not just the Flames, the NHL chronically does a poor job with objective calling and control of games and its when they get out of hand.
This is the same NHL that allowed the Broadstreet bullies to pummel opponents for ratings.

Its a league that sells out it product for this dimestore stuff.

people aren't upset at just Tkachuk, its that the NHL always reinforces this kind of thing. The NHL wants there to be this bad blood. Those are the unfortunate aspects, the latest symptoms are just Tkachuk and Kass, the league hasn't changed that much since Makita and Teddy Greene RIP were swinging sticks at each other and trying to carve their eyes out.

The NHL gets to decide what it wants to be. When will it decide?

You are not wrong about the inconsistency with which the league treats liberties players take. But I think you are naive in hoping that whatever Kassian did will change anything. Edmonton Oilers are not going to "fix" NHL, and we should be pragmatic in winning hockey games within the current system. I cannot blame Kassian for losing his cool, his passion and energy is part of who he is, and this comes with being too much of a hothead sometimes. But there is no denying that what he did was detrimental for the team. And I hope that is also the lesson he takes from it, and the team learns how to play against players like Tkachuk without giving up points in the process. In my opinion they should ramp up their physicality dramatically, and stay away from Tkachuk's antics by retaliating. Chirp him, ridicule him, hit him, but don't take liberties that may result in the team being shorthanded beacuse you didn't keep your cool. At the end of the day the best retaliation against Tkachuk is having the Flames leave the arena with zero points.

Kass should just do that. Cheap shot and turtle just so Flames [and their fans] can get all riled up. And I'm being serious too. Its time for Oilers to be assholes on ice. Embrace the BS since everyone else is doing the same

In a sense, Andersson, while a bitch with those comments, he's not wrong. Part of the problem we have is we have tough guys but they dont really do much policing. It's almost exclusively reactionary.

Remember when Larsson used to toy with Gaudreau behind our net? Nope
Nurse...oh boy...

Kass initiates but its rare. Mentally, he thinks he NEEDS to be this scorer each and every night to be effective.

Just hope next game, team plays pissed off, on and off the scoresheet

Anyone would look smaller if they are crouching and covering their face.

I put this on the main board, but I would add, Tkachuk's existence is an argument for why the league's instigator rule may be inconsistent with it's aim of reducing head injuries (given how they currently allow guys like Tkachuk to do what they do).

"If concussions are the main concern, logic would dictate that the league would take greater issue with Tkachuk travelling probably around 20 kmh and hitting Kassian in the head. (Roughly in the head; we all know how concussions work.)

You have to think the league should be concerned about a guy whose end game is to routinely attempt to cause damage and the fact that there are no official consequences for doing so to instigate and draw penalties.

If the league is really concerned about player well-being, they have to be concerned about a player using the league's own rules against it to cause damage and draw penalties. Unless the league is inconsistent."

I can agree with this. Want to see more initiation from the team. And I think you'll see that next time we meet. Our PK just needs to be ready to put the work boots on.

I mean, we beat the Avs and the Leafs after Kass set the tone. Guy needs to go berserk to start, scoring goals be damned.

It's too bad our other 'tough' guys, namely Larsson and Nurse, dont do much hitting or anything, especially the latter. Guy seems to only engage post whistle. Frustrating to watch since he was always aggressive in Junior
