If Kassian so much as looks at anyone the wrong way in the next game, the refs will give him a five-minute major... and the league will pat itself on the back for 'managing the game'.

Any fan thinking, 'well, if Tkachuk can get away with those hits, we should to' has not been paying attention to how amateur this league is.

Being scared to play the game is the wrong thing to do.
You don't want him turning into Jujhar do ya?

Go out there, do your thing, be motivated, but not stupid.

Canucks fan coming in peace and 100% support of our common relative. I like MT's game and often find myself re-thinking that Draft in my nightmares.

That said, even though a majority of Flames fans seem to think MT's actions (or lack of) were the determining factor in winning that game, I have a different view.

I think Zack won the long game here, as MT was being groomed to take the mantle after Gio's tenure is done. Having a Leader who is going to target a player's head like he did & hit him in the numbers behind the net and then flee from answering for it, no thanks.

Well done Zack & I think I can speak for the majority of Canucks fans in being so happy for him in his comeback arc & Edmonton's role in helping him get here.

Cheers

P.S. Thinking of players getting what they deserve via fist, or in this case, karma

Good post. Reflecting on this whole thing on the drive to work, I was thinking of what this could create. The rest of the league looking at this, likely thinks Tkachuk is moreso in the wrong here and also poorly of the team in general, so they'll want to make example of him.

Teammates in Calgary are building a culture around this type of play. It seldom goes far as teams built around punks like this tend to get other teams' more physical games. Overall, Calgary isn't built to play that type of game. The more honorable players on Calgary are also likely looking poorly at Tkachuks actions which may make them less engaged in protecting or playing for him. That could be bad news.

In Edmonton, this can be a rally cry. Calgary won the battle, but this can motivate the team to eventually win the war. Games like that can be team destroyers or team builders, hopefully we see more of the latter here, and it propels them to something better.

Can't wait to see it all play out.

I just see any borderlibe hits by the Oilers getting called immediately. I don't understand it but the NHL gives rats a free pass. Tkachuk gets it, Marchand gets it, Kesler got it.

For whatever reason, slashing McDavid on the wrists because he's better than you is, 'a hockey play' but slashing a Tkachuk because he's running around is an instant penalty. It makes zero sense but it's always been that way.

I'd love to see the Oilers come out and pump 5 or 6 past Talbot and get the Flames flustered but, well... the Oilers just never win these kind charged games. I expect the Flames to easily take the next two, unfortunately. The Oilers just don't win the 'moral' victories.

Disagree. The oilers have actually had success where they shouldn’t, against the upper tier teams and their road record is better then at home. We aren’t that far removed from 16-17 where the oilers swept the Shames if I remember right. The flames will get their lunch fed to them shortly.

Parros was a joke of an enforcer as well. He was basically a very vanilla goon that only stood out among the other average goons because of his moustache and he was an Ivy school grad.

This is what the Oiler faithful need to be doing the whole entire game to Tkachuk and the Flames on the 29th. They started on him right from the pregame skate and it clearly rattled not only Tavares, but the Leafs as a team.

Justin Bourne of Hockey Central posted this I thought it was funny.

Tkachuk refuses to answer the bell. The Code states you need to target the other teams stars now, shouldn’t be this way. No one wants stars getting run but when you employ a turtle coward, this is the result.

I'm guessing by this you don't do anything in life that involves aggression? You want a guy to just take hits from a guy who is clearly baiting him?

Kassian did exactly what anyone with an ounce of aggression would have done.

It's becoming clear that rest of conference is starting to hate the Flames and it's not because they're winning. You've got a bunch of guys who haven't accomplished anything, have barely won even any playoff games, let alone a series and they're running their mouths like they're the 80s Oilers or Islanders.

I'm guessing by this that you're young or just still immature and haven't figured it out yet. We all have aggression, but we learn to tame it and harness it at different rates. I once long ago did exactly what Kassian did in a beer league game to a guy who took a full swing at me with his stick. The difference is I would never do that today for a list of reasons.

Kassian has his own list of reasons why that wasn't the right reaction or at the very least the right time. 3-3 in a critical game is a no no time to put your team shorthanded for 4 or 5 minutes. Thumping the back of his head and gloves isn't going to change anything with a scumbag like ketchup; you need to exact revenge in a meaningful way to the flames. Run over Gaudreau every chance possible. Win the game. Get dirty with ketchup at a time where it will be punished as an isolated rather than retaliatory incident. Make the f***ing playoffs at the expense of the flames. Stop perpetually losing for a second straight decade. Be a professional and do whatever it takes to win. Figure it out so that your actions lead to success rather than failure.

Successful people get this stuff. Too many Oilers players don't.

So what's to keep Edmonton from putting up the turtle billboards in Calgary? Kind of dumb when Tkachuk is the one with the incriminating photo shoot.
Nothing really.

Didn't Roughrider fans pay for a billboard outside commonwealth a few years back too?

I think this might result in the team rallying together. The comments by Andersson that there are a lot of pretenders on this team will definitely motivate them through the next several games.......(I hope)

Yeah, as a fan the only thing you don't like about a rival saying something like that is that it wasn't sure by a player with more clout.

But this type of thing will likely inspire that type of play. As was said on here, sometimes you lose a skirmish to get your head set on right and then can win the war. The Oilers have gone a long time with no one fighting back. And they seem to have that now with Kassian, Nurse, and Drai. Even McDavid took a run at Tkachuk.
And it's fine to go after Little Johnny. And as we've seen so many times, a hit like Tkachuk laid on Kassian last night, would likely result in a 5-10 game suspension for our team's player. Just keep in mind that McDavid is fair game as well, and we all know how the league does such a "great job" of calling penalties against other players who foul him. Personally, I want the Oilers to go after Lindhom, Little Johnny, AND Tkachuk. It would sure be nice if someone like Khaira would step up to the plate and use that big size to a huge advantage and start punishing people.

It's easy for you as a fan to sit back and say,"well, he should do this or that." But you're not in the game other than a bystander, and don't see or feel all the nuances of what is really happening out there. I'm sure they'll be taking about it as they go forward, and the team will develop a "strategy" to deal with it. And I't sure every player in that dressing room has Kassian's back.

If this is losing the battle to win the war, why has it never worked before? How many of these games do they have to throw before the wins come?

Tketchup targeted Kassian because he wanted this reaction, not because he feared it. This is a guy who will gladly turtle to win. Anyone who can't see that by now is stupid.

I hate to inform you of this but hockey players are young guys who run on emotion.

Some of them, but not the good ones.

Maybe the elite ones but these are still for the most parts kids who have been playing in this environment for years. Poke the bear and eventually it will poke back. Hell even Mario and Crosby have had their moments. Kassian is a hot head and Tkachuk knew it. I had zero issue with him getting under Kassian's skin. I do have an issue though with his cowardice. That is my take away.

Like a lot of what Kass had to say here, I think he’s completely right. I also like the sound of him saying he wants to stay here. He’s definitely a glue guy and I’d have him back at a reasonable price in a heartbeat.

It’s kinda cool to hear that he got a lot of messages from a lot of people around the league showing their support for what he did to the Turtle™

'He messed with the wrong guy. I don't think he realized that we're in the same division and that I have a great memory'.

I can't wait for the 29th.

Hopefully it’ll be a war with us coming up on top.

I really like him saying something along the lines of “I know those hits are legal now, so I’m gonna keep that in the memory bank”

sounds to me like Kass is gonna give the Turtle™ a taste of his own medicine
