Great quote from the article;

“Tkachuk puts few restrictions on who he will hit, how hard he’ll hit them, or how vulnerable they are. When it comes to fighting however, he seems to have an arm’s length of boxes to be checked off before engaging.

He’s old school when he has the advantage, new school when he thinks he may not.”

yup, great quote. sums it all up.

Happiest about Drais comment. Hope we, as a team, rally from this.

Hate how the discipline was one sided. Deserved? Sure. On both sides, for sure.

If that's Matt Benning or Sidney Crosby or any of the umpteen players this league has with concussion issues, you could be looking at the end of a career with that kind of hit. A slap on the wrist is a farce. Was Marc Savard not enough?

Kassian probably deserves a suspension for going haywire on the back of Ratchuks head (which is also partially on the refs for just allowing that to happen), but the predatory hits got to be curbed.

If Kassian goes down on the first hit and is out with a serious injury the refs make a call and the NHL suspends Tkurtle for 15 games. What a joke, but that is reality. They don't care at all unless someone gets hurt, then they step in.

I gave up a long time ago trying to suggest how NHL players should behave towards each other. All of them must by now understand that they can be critically injured on any given shift, and that's the cost of entry into this circus lifestyle. Penalties and suspensions? Who cares...they're both fundamentally meaningless, after-the-fact platitudes that do nothing to protect the union members from the worst impulses of their fellow union members in an endeavour that acknowledges all sorts of crazy behaviours as business as usual.

If they don't want protection from each other, who are we to suggest they should seek it?

Best thing Kass can do next game is to line a few Flamers up but do it in a legit way, but otherwise play the way he has this year (don't let it be a distraction, let it be motivation)

If Kassian so much as looks at anyone the wrong way in the next game, the refs will give him a five-minute major... and the league will pat itself on the back for 'managing the game'.

Any fan thinking, 'well, if Tkachuk can get away with those hits, we should to' has not been paying attention to how amateur this league is.

Maybe I am wrong, but even if we will most probably see very physical games vs Calgary next I think that they will try to keep the dirty stuff to a minimum. The refs will be looking for it and clamp down on the slightest over-step, and that can cost the game. Last game of the season is against Calgary, bring it then. Or even the first game of next season, that's probably even better.

And when Kassian attacks Chucky if Matt hits his head on the ice and gets seriously hurt or killed. Kassians career is over. Kassian is an idiot.

Struds said it best and has said it as much for quite some time. Just leave Tkachuk alone. Start going after all their other players with this borderline hits. We need to be the ones that are going out and laying the hits. Let them be the team to react.

Canucks fan coming in peace and 100% support of our common relative. I like MT's game and often find myself re-thinking that Draft in my nightmares.

That said, even though a majority of Flames fans seem to think MT's actions (or lack of) were the determining factor in winning that game, I have a different view.

I think Zack won the long game here, as MT was being groomed to take the mantle after Gio's tenure is done. Having a Leader who is going to target a player's head like he did & hit him in the numbers behind the net and then flee from answering for it, no thanks.

Well done Zack & I think I can speak for the majority of Canucks fans in being so happy for him in his comeback arc & Edmonton's role in helping him get here.

Cheers

P.S. Thinking of players getting what they deserve via fist, or in this case, karma

So what's to keep Edmonton from putting up the turtle billboards in Calgary? Kind of dumb when Tkachuk is the one with the incriminating photo shoot.

The difference is one of them had an opportunity to defend themselves and chose not to. The biggest idiot is the turtle who was looking to injure someone.

During the fight I'm wondering what kind of idiot doesn't have their mouth guard in when they know they will be fighting and eating a rain of punches. Having the mouth guard in is the whole point of having it..

It is unfortunate Kass hurt his knuckle a bit on the first punch as it saved Tkachuk from full intensity blows.
One day he’s going to inhale the damn thing.

I just see any borderlibe hits by the Oilers getting called immediately. I don't understand it but the NHL gives rats a free pass. Tkachuk gets it, Marchand gets it, Kesler got it.

For whatever reason, slashing McDavid on the wrists because he's better than you is, 'a hockey play' but slashing a Tkachuk because he's running around is an instant penalty. It makes zero sense but it's always been that way.

I'd love to see the Oilers come out and pump 5 or 6 past Talbot and get the Flames flustered but, well... the Oilers just never win these kind charged games. I expect the Flames to easily take the next two, unfortunately. The Oilers just don't win the 'moral' victories.

Too bad Kas didn’t connect on it and ram it down his throat
