I think the title says all it needs too. You're putting " all your cards on the table " for a 3rd liner. Just bad asset management.
UMMM you have Sid, Geno & Letang nearing the end you go for it. Good GOD you don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure this out

I don't think anyone is upset about moving the 1st and Hallander. It is really the value we got back that is upsetting.

These are the types of deals that make or break a franchise to be honest. And we saw it in the deal for Reaves. And we kind of are seeing it with the deal for Brassard and Sheary and Rodrigues.

Although I think the last two deserve merit based on the need and the price versus Reaves.

Reminded you a few weeks ago about JR being OCD about guys he loves.

Only surprise with Kapanen is that a goalie swap wasn't a part of it.

P.S.: Just wait until JR pulls off the deal he tried to do two summers ago and trades Rust straight up for Domi . . .

(this is NOT an understanding, more an educated guess based on the GM being a lunatic)

That's the thing. Does JR even negotiate when he makes trades? I'm honestly curious because it seems like the prices he pays are typically the seller's "high bid" and not the result of a continuous back and forth where both sides give a little.

It's like buying a house. The seller wants $500,000, the buyer only wants to pay $450,000, so they negotiate and eventually end up somewhere in the middle of those two numbers. But it seems like JR just immediately is willing to pay the seller's original ask without any bargaining down.

Rust for Domi will, in his mind, take care of #2.

Between #1 and #2, it makes me scared to think what he has in mind for #3 . . . coaxing Cam Ward out of retirement, perhaps?

Except Domi is shitty at defense...not a defensive center at all..lol

In your opinion what is Hallander. I dont have a good grasp on it?

I know hes fast. I know he plays the type of way that endears himself to fans.

but isnt he really more solid bottom sixer than anything?

He was a real threat in the low slot, net front. Lulela ran the same power-play structure as the Penguins do now, but instead of planting Hallander right in front of the net, they moved him about five feet further out to deflect pucks in the low slot. Super strong on his feet. Really good balance that makes it difficult to move his center of gravity. He eats pucks in the boards really well on cycles and retrievals. Underwhelming stuff from a shot perspective but he'll do something every once in awhile that is like, "where did that come from?" Overall, I pegged him as a safer bet. It's tough for forwards especially to transition to NA, but given his north/south style already, I don't think it's going to be a huge hurdle, or a hurdle at all.

It wouldn't shock me if Hallander played a key role on a 2nd line as ceilng, and rounded out your bottom six in worst case scenario. I don't think there's a lot of inherent risk in his game.

I think we’re all to blame for this. We wanted fast wingers so bad and JR is going ham. Tanev? Zucker? Bring Sheary back? Kapanen? Ya’ll know JJ for Helm is next.
Yes, this trade reminds me of the obsession we all had with Boedker/Reider/Helm back in like 2014.

OK, I see a lot of unhappy people here. I am fine with this though. Not sexy but I am really fine here. Kap is a massive improvement over whatever we had on that RW in the TOP6 (Sheary, Simon or Horny). Massive improvement. Very good player with real potential IMO. We paid a price, sure. But if you draft a player like Kap is now, from that 15th position, you did a decent job. Hallander for Lindgren is a price for not having to wait for that 15th pick to grow. I am fine with this. And no, Kahun is definitely not better than Kap.

Being a scout in the penguins org must be an absolutely demoralizing experience. Hope those guys have hobbies, because they can't be deriving any job satisfaction.

I like Kapanen but this is too much. Jesus can we just draft players and develop them? I'm all for big splashy acquisitions when they involve someone like Hossa or Kessel, but these Zucker, Brassard, Kapanen deals are f***ing killing me.

Zucker deal was good.

Yep.

I will say this though . . . we've been talking in terms of a 2 year window. Well, Kapanen makes 3.2M per for the next two.

IF the play from this is to go all in addressing L3 and the bottom pairing AND to run Zucker-Sid-Kap and Jake-Geno-Rust, then I can kind of get that plan.

BUT . . . Jack Johnson ain't going anywhere, there won't be any systemic changes, and that won't be the line combos in the top 6 . . .

I think up and down you are really overrating Kapanen here. All of our issues stem from Kap not being a great player underneath the flashy speed. If Kapanen was the guy you're describing, things would be fine. But there's plenty of evidence saying he isn't.

Leaf fan here.

U guys got a great player in kapanen. He's definitely a top 2 line guy on most teams however due to our Mathews/Marner, Tavares/nylander pairings (coach wanted to round our the lines with a more defensive player) he was left out. He will fly with your top players.

As a little self-promotion, here's what I wrote on this trade a few hours ago:
