How did that work for Kucherov last year ?

Obviously not great. Didn't appear to matter much in the equation. It's one reason why I think Kaprizov is a front runner for the Hart, but not the favorite. Just too many other star players that are now in the same ballpark as he is. And after his torrid first month, he's cooled off, and the pack has caught him. He has to find another gear again to keep up.

The other factor that hurt Kucherov and will hurt Kaprizov is that it's tough for wingers to win the Hart. All things equal the dominant center have the edge. Doesn't help that both are MIA on the PK and a tendency to pad their stats with empty net points. If they were viewed as strong 2-way guys and contributed more that arena, I think that disadvantage would be muted. Kaprizov is certainly not bad defensively, but he's not tasked with the same job as the centers in the conversation, and voters take that into account.

The only positive is he will sign a franchise crippling contract.

(I don't think one player earning that percentage of the cap ever works out)

Safe to say that any chance he had at the Hart or Art Ross has evaporated over the past few weeks.

Just 8 points in the 9 games before what is now his fourth missed game in a row.

Yeah I don't think he wins but maybe still has a chance as a finalist. 18 more points and 9 more goals than next highest teammate.

Strictly speaking on the top 10 points and goal scorers, Kaprizov is tied with Eichel for the largest point gap anyone has over their teammate, and the 2nd highest goalscoring gap over a teammate behind Draisatl.

Voters seem to like those kind of stats.

Meh the team has to keep winning and the WIld have falling back to that mediocrity that we expect from them. The Avs will pass them in the next week or so and likely the Stars soon behind them.

So assuming they finish in a WC spot and KK a solid 10-15-20 points behind all of Mackinnon, Draisaitl, Rantanen, Kucherov, and McDavid, no chance he gets more than a few 4th-5th place votes.

They've won 4 out of their last 5 including wins at Dallas and at Washington.

Kaprizov sitting for a week or two may end up being a good thing, make the team realize they can't just rely on Kaprizov for their scoring.

Maybe. Still 5-5 in last 10. I personally have more faith in the Avs and Stars trending upwards than the Wild. Currently 14 points of the points lead. I expect Draisaitl, McDavid, and Kuch to keep pace, but KK has to go off to catch up.

Everyone other than delusional Minnesota fans knew he would cool down at some point. He's a good player but he's not in the leagues of McDavid, MacKinnon, Draisaitl and Kucherov.
Guess you didn't notice that he's "cooled down" because he isn't playing.

The injury has certainly taken him out of the Ross race. Think he's still very much in the Hart and Richard race (still sitting 2nd in goals).

My comment was more on the Wild falling off. They had a bad 4 game stretch without JEE and Kaprizov playing hurt. JEE back has helped a ton, and Kaprizov isn't too far away. They've basically said he could play on it, but they want him healthy in April/May not in January.

Scoring points from IR is probably the only thing that would get Kaprizov national recognition. He does play in a small market, after all.

He cooled down before that though with 8 points in 9 games. That said he’s still at a 1.47 PPG and has 61 G and 122 points in his last 82 games. I think he could maintain close to that over a full year, but that still probably wouldn’t win the Art Ross against those other guys

The only difference was that those players padded stats with empty net points. Kaprizov finally in the same empty nets points conversation as those guys.

Kucherov 14 ENP last year. Mackinnon already at 11 or 12 this year.

You know he was slowing down before that right? If anything being injured helps his points per game because he’s been trending down
