He's maddeningly inconsistent. Looked good his first year back and then was atrocious last year.

I'm sorry but Kapanen is not good. He's only still here because JR had such a boner over him. My hope is qualifying him was an asset management move only.

Kap's 3.2 million is holding this roster back from having an actual impactful top-6. If we have to move someone else ala McGinn/Blueger to fit the cap, I hope Kap goes too and we get someone new in their place.

My guess is that we're cutting deadweight somewhere else in the roster. McGinn, Blueger, or maybe Pettersson?
Unless Hextall has a plan to bring in a different LD, he's kinda stuck with Petts. Can't really run a POJ-Petry or Smith-Petry 2nd pairing.

I wonder if Rutta plays LD at all.

Kapanen is the obvious choice here.
Maybe, but I also think the team likes him. He’s more of a wildcard than McGinn or Blueger. Also depends on what other teams want. They wanted to deal Pettersson but had to deal Matheson, for example. If you put a gun to my head I would guess Blueger.

I'm confused. I'd think if they were trading him they would let him negotiate with his new team.

That tends to only happen for the higher tier more desirable players, like a JT Miller or if MIN shops Matt Dumba, and typically if it's for a longer term deal.

If there are teams like SEA or ANA or BUF or the like who want to take a chance on Kappy for just 1 or 2 years, they don't need to be the ones to negotiate a deal with him.

If he reads this post he will have a great season:
- He's gotta use a longer stick, it's too short for him. I know Sid encourages a shorter stick, but it doesn't work for Kap.
- He needs less flex on his stick. Not too much less, but less.
- He's gotta spend the summer with a stick handling coach. Dude fumbles the puck more than Dupuis

You missed the part about him needing to spend the summer with Tony Robbins and/or some genius sports psychologist.

I’m just confused as what exactly they like out of him at this point.

Either McGinn or Blueger please.

It’s a meh deal. Not great but not bad. Dude better step it up though. He will get plenty of opportunity. It’s now or never.

Feel like it's pretty unlikely we feel like it's a meh deal come the end tho. Either last season was a blip and Hextall just locked up a legit top 6 type guy on the cheap for a couple of years, or he can't recover from that bad season and it's a mistake just giving him a roster place. Some average in between sounds unexpected.
