I think he could be part of a deal that includes Petts. But my guess is with a 2 year deal, then move a contract and be under the cap. Petts, maybe Zucker, or someone that has some term but can be moved like a McGinn. Hextal knows what he needs to get to and what options he has been discussing.

its actually not bad value assuming he can find his game & put it together. I get why they did it, he is a talented player. They didn't exactly break the bank to retain him & given the absolute dearth of prospects in the minors, having talent on the roster never hurts.

When Kapanen got qualified, it basically guaranteed that he would come in at around $3 million a year. The only way he could have come in less was if he wouldn't have been qualified and signed as a UFA. But even then, he'd still be coming in at around $2.5 million.

In hindsight, they should have just not qualified him and let him get a "unqualified young UFA" contract instead of a "arbitration eligible RFA" contract.

This still assumes that Kapanen is staying, which I find intellectually unfathomable.

Why am I the only one saying this?!?!? WTF???

I'm ok with this deal, happy it's under 4 per year.

Then you'll be disappointed later on today or tomorrow when he gets traded.

A little higher than I was hoping but it’s probably fair value for him.

He sucked last year but did have some chemistry with Malkin the year before. Maybe the plan is to run with a Rakell - Malkin - Kapanen line and hope it’s a better version of what it was when ERod was on the other wing.

What's interesting and suspicious here is that EVERY OTHER signing the Pens have made this summer were first announced by the team on their own twitter & website.

The fact that this signing has still not even been confirmed by the Penguins or listed on their website/twitter just indicates to me that they're not planning on keeping him.

This is not the worst contract I have ever seen, but if Kap were immediately flipped for a 2nd round pick I would take that deal...

I would rather have kept Heinen for that amount of money.
Yea either Heinen or Rodrigues would have been better to keep unless they really believe Kapanen will bounce back. I guess I could see Kapanen being a more valued asset around the league?

Kap needs to figure his game out and I do hope it comes alive with us. He does so much and yet does so little. He's working his ass of and does so so so little.

Maybe the first time that work smarter, not harder has been more than a buzzword :naughty:
