Prospect Info: K'Andre Miller (D) - Part IV

I have not been so impressed with a young Ranger D since Ryan McDonagh first came up. Sometimes, I think we forget how good he was: how fast he closed gaps, his skating ability, his "presence" on the ice, his impact on the game. I really thought he had a chance to be an all-time great Ranger, perhaps even more. Unfortunately, injuries slowed him down. He is still a top 4, fine NHL D, but not what I envisioned him to be.
Miller has the same potential: an all-time great Ranger, perhaps more, a truly special player. It is a joy watching him play and grow. I expect there will be growing pains. Young D rarely grow in a linear fashion. They will be ups and downs. No doubt there will come a time this year when he struggles and loses confidence. But he is growing before our eyes, beyond anything we envisioned.
One of the great joys of being a fan is watching young players grow. This is one of those times.

Seems like he had a bit of a rougher game last night but you still see so many good things he can do and if we assume room to grow that upside of a 1st pairing LD is there for the taking

Which is to be expected with such a young player. And all of the young players. This year will have ups and downs and Miller at some point will also experience the rookie wall.

2021 Miller is where I hoped 2023-2024 Miller would be.
Yeah. Never did I think that a) he would make the team this year & b) that he would be this good, this quick. Those top two pairs could be there for a long, long time.

The exciting thing is that in a rougher game he was still more than competent, and made some outstanding plays.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a player develop so much between their draft year and D+3 year.

Continues to exceed even my highest expectations for his rookie year. He's already shown massive improvement in his reads and neutral zone play. Has struggled a little bit getting leverage on smaller guys but that will get solved with time and experience.

Looks like a completely different player compared to his last year at Wisco. Really remarkable.

Something like this. Would also like to see him use his body a bit more to separate players from the puck. But this is nitpicking right now. The kid has exceeded all of my expectations. But I would caution to assume that this will be this way fort the entire year. There will be some growing pains.

I think his physical game will come. And when it does, it will be glorious.

I've noticed him throwing his body around and using it effectively along the boards, but his stick is also so good that the body work hasn't been the first weapon he uses I think

Do you still think he’s going to have huge ups/downs or is the implication that he’s bypassed that part?

Right now, I think there still might be some ups and downs --- and I will admit that how those waves are interpreted is a bit concerning.

Having said that, if he can avoid them and more or less have a Fox-like transition, I'll take a double helping thank you very much.

Interestingly I’ve seen the Bouwmeester comparison floated around a couple times outside of this board.

Personally, I see more Bouwmeester than Hedman.

I don't know if I see the offense reaching that 15-17 goal, 60-70 point level, or the total package quite hitting that Franchise Player level for a defenseman.

But as a two-way type, who covers a hell of a lot of ground, can jump into the play and do a ton of things that don't show up on the stat sheet? Yeah, I think he's definitely in that range.
