Prospect Info: K'Andre Miller (D) - Part IV

i think your expectations are a little too high. Most people didnt even to expect him to play in the NHL this season let alone start the season with the team. And then having him play at the level he is is just remarkable.

he ia a rookie, playing like a young vet. He ia going to have mistakes. That is fine. Even at this “lower” level of play, he is exceeding expectations.

personally is he plays at this “lower” level the rest of the season, i would still be ecstatic bc he is playing at a top 4 level. Which again is much quicker than anyone anticipated.
I don’t disagree, just trying to talk about his play outside of heaping praise on it. He deserves the praise but there’s no reason we can’t or shouldn’t point out the ups and downs

Luca Sbisa is the only defenseman drafted 19th or lower to play 10+ games in his D+1 season in the NHL sice 1996

I don't think anyone should have expected him to play this season.

Nice stat and makes plenty of sense with what is asked of NHL defenseman.

Guys like Dahlin, Hedman etc tend to make the team straight out of camp after being drafted but considering the fact that most seasons have 2-3 D+1 players total, just shows how rare it is.

Braden Schneider
Reports are that he is closer to be NHL ready than some. However, we know that he is not playing here this year. Next year, I would expect him to start in Hartford and work his way up unless he wows at camp.

Regarding his contract situation: He is not eligible for this season. The earliest he can sign an entry level contract is March 1st, and that contract can only kick at the start of the new season, in this case

Yes, which is why I said that he is most assuredly not playing in the NHL this year. Lundqvist could. Schneider cannot.

*Lundkvist

And yes. The way I look at it now, this is basically the situation the Rangers are in with their prospects not yet in Hartford under contract

Likely to join this season:
Lundkvist
Robertson

Will join this season (i.e. already under contract):
Kravtsov

Possible but unlikely:
Själin
Henriksson
Edström
Lindbom
Pajuniemi
Aaltonen
Jones
Kjellberg
Hughes
Berard
Ollas
Tärnström

Cannot join this season, only ATO in Hartford:
Schneider
Cuylle
Garand
Rempe
Skinner

This all looks right to me, but regarding the "cannot" group, there are sometimes emergency exemptions, no? Not something that you'd actually anticipate, but it's conceivable during this COVID-impacted season.

I know schneider signed an ato, can the rangers offer him an elc or does the season need to end before they can make that offer.

actually what about a PTO? you can't play in the NHL on a PTO, correct?

It's quite hilarious hearing Pierre grease the wheels of Tony Granato as the reason Miller is playing lights out.

Whatever Miller did since his last college game to now is the main reason.

Anyways...Miller had another couple plays where my jaw is on the floor. If he keeps playing like this I dont care what his point total is he has to be top 3 for Calder.

He makes jaw dropping plays every game it seems. That bank pass to Panarin and taking Barzal's lunch money.

...and those times when he's out of position, the time between the spark of realization, the decision, and the pure athleticism to make up the ground and adjust is just eye popping.

There are times where I go "Oh there's that rookie mistake..." and before the words cross my cranium, he's already in perfect position to disrupt the play, take the puck and be ready to move it.

-shakes head-

Is there no way he can sign and play in the POs (presuming the Rangers make it) while burning a year of his contract, the way Kreider did way back when? Or is that no longer a feature of the current CBA?

No, that is possible for players in Europe and college, not major juniors.

But this isn't really relevant since he's unlikely to be NHL ready anyway. I know we want our prospects to play for us as soon as possible, but that's just not realistic.

Ah, that's the difference. Thanks.

Yeah, agree to disagree on this one. I absolutely think Schneider could hang as the RD on the 3rd pair as soon as this spring. Don't know if he's needed there this season, but I think he's a lot closer than you give him credit for.

So question, I hope I'm not just comparing the two because of their race but I'm reading on the main board that Darnell Nurse is putting it together. How did Nurse compare to Miller? And it seems like at least defensively Miller put it together earlier?

I prefer to compare him to P.O. Joseph, who got completely abused by Barzal yesterday, meanwhile Key stole his lunch money
