Honestly, it’s going down to be hilarious if Drury is still in the job by the TDL. He has the opportunity to tank this team even more. Fun for me, not so much for Rangers fans or players.

Ideally they hang around the playoff picture enough for him to add. Best scenario for content.

One of the fastest ways, but that doesn’t mean one of the best.

If a player has a trade demand, he can make that known through his agent without bringing the NYC media down on the situation. Going to reporters instead was a great way to notify every GM in the league that he’s a risk to pull something like this. He’ll get traded because he has to be at this point, but GMs and especially coaches aren’t going to just forget he did this. The idea that he’ll be a “good soldier” just went out the window.
Nope. GMs also know there is more than one way to get a trade if ya want one.
Kako will likely be advance his career on another team....as long as it's ain't Pittsburgh.

The term “coach killer” exists for a reason. GMs and coaches absolutely know which guys are going to work within the framework of the team, and which ones are a risk to get messy.

I’m not even saying this is fair to Kakko, given what he’s been through, or that he’s not right about what he’s saying. But there is pretty much no line of work where you can go around openly saying your boss is incompetent and your coworkers aren’t working hard enough, and not pay a price for being that guy. Group dynamics depend on trust and once you’re identified as someone who’ll throw others under the bus, that never really goes away. Again, this is something a lot of young guys don’t understand till they learn the hard way what it means to be in a foxhole with someone who will undermine you in front of others.

He didn’t throw them under the bus, he spoke legit gripes. He’s actually been playing better than much of their skaters

But Laviollete did what all old school coaches do: give an unlimited leash to overpaid old vets to play as bad as they want, while throwing the hungry young guy under the bus benching him for being less than absolute perfect.

Kakko is low on the list of guys who should get benched, but he got benched. Trotz used to do the same Nate Schmidt in Washington, before he went to Vegas an became a top pair guy.

Naa there will definitely be teams eager to take him. Hopefully he'll be happier, too, but one thing is clear and it's that he isn't happy right now.

Land of no calls..
Yeah, not sure how this is him throwing his teammates under the bus. He's simply making a case for staying in the lineup and it's a fair one. This kid was supposed to be a cornerstone of the rebuild and instead the org decided to prioritize the veterans they decided to keep around. The only reason they aren't sitting on failed 1st and 2nd overall picks is because by some miracle Lafreniere happened to click with a couple veterans who didn't throw a stink about having him on their line.

**or compliments
He can whinge about icetime as much as he likes. He is averaging around 13 minutes a game. There are players getting that time on other teams doing some damage
Rangers with Kakko have outscored the opponent 19-9 at 5v5, I think he's doing some damage. The rangers are -12 without him on the ice.

And it's not like his 5v5 production has even been that poor. He's 4th on the team in 5v5 points, ahead of Trocheck and Zibanejad.

Looks like the Rangers have a Kreider Zibanejad and Defence problem.

That's on the players and the GM....not Kakko.

So hes an rfa with a somewhat expensive qualifying offer and then a year removed from UFA. So if you’re trading you’re essentially gonna be giving him a UFA type contract. A bit risky for a guy who has played down lineup all career.

On the other hand, due to spending so much time lower down in the lineup, he's both got a refined defensive game and possible untapped offensive upside, while not having especially high past production. Easily a guy you could sign for a longer contract at a lower end AAV and have it looked at as a steal within a year or 2.

Maybe (definitely)guys like Zibanejad and Kreider are slumping too but the Finnish Gene Carr needs to play better. He has cooled down after a good start.

I mean, he ain't wrong.
Sure seems like there are some guys cheating the defensive side of the game so they can get better offensive stats. Those two at the bottom definitely stand out.

I don't like Kakko's comment because he's basically trying to say he's been better than other players, throwing his teammates under the bus. I don't think that's something you say publicly.

I think Zibanejad & Kreider are more deserving of the scratch than Kakko though. But I don't buy the narrative that Kakko hasn't gotten an opportunity, to start his rookie season he was forcefed top six minutes & PP1 time, he played himself off of it
So…he was truthful and is frustrated by the schadenfreude of being told that the team needs to be better but yet bad players get starts over better players. Fire Drury fast.

Getting rid of his contract was a smart move, done in a really bad way with the memo and the waivers thing.
Doing the same to Goodrow in the off-season was about as bad. Both were overpaid, but there's a better way to handle getting rid of guys respected by the team.

Sometime the coach himself is the coach killer. Self inflicted.
